    A nice summary that is also woven with hints for next season. I hope that Shelby would be a key character in S3, learning more about Toni's background and her relationship with her mother, how it came about that she even got to the island from everyone. She lives on the street. Who paid for it? More shoni Scenes together. That they will not be separated to produce drama. I would have been happily happy for more screen time for the female characters overall.

    Shelby doesn't want to go home to her family. Also, I wouldn't put it past Gretchen to threaten to do something to Toni. Toni is still a child in the foster care system. Gretchen could have promised to put her in a horrid situation if she did not work for her, or a good situation if she did. Or she could have threatened to give video of her activities to Shelby's father. I'm really looking forward to seeing the groups interact with each other especially since the girls are much closer and cohesive as unit than the boys, will this break that up or solidify it? I'm also really interested in seeing the girls react to Leah's meddling with the boys and Gretchen and whether or not they were somehow finding a way to communicate while locked up. I personally don't want to see that much new relationship drama between the two groups, I just think focusing on the one existing couple is enough and I love their complex dynamic, I'd like to see the drama between the two groups stem from the situation they're in and how they try to get out of it/possibly interact with Seth and/or Nora. I also imagine that there will be fallout amongst the girls from Leah's scheming, especially when Rachel learns about Nora, that it could cause their group to potentially split up (though I don't see it lasting) and take sides. I'd imagine it would be Leah, Fatin, Shelby and possibly Dot on one side and Rachel, Toni, and Martha on the other. It will also be interesting to see the rest of the guys reactions when they get caught up to speed on everything Leah knows.
    I also can't help but notice in the final shot on the roof both groups seem to be wearing clothes that are color coded, like: Fatin and Henry are wearing the exact same colors and they're the only one in each of their groups in those colors, Leah and Raf, Shelby and several of the guys are wearing black and white, Toni and Dot, Rachel and Scotty and then Martha is sort of singled out and the only one wearing pink.

    • @adinakruijssen3056
      @adinakruijssen3056 Před 2 lety +7

      The colors definitely matter. In season 1, one of the "field notes" (trivia) was noting that Shelby and rachel were the only ones given a certain color sweater. Still not sure what it means - maybe that they were both deemed potentially unstable? Like they obviously knew to keep their eye on Leah, but the other two were maybe question marks?

    • @remylewis8721
      @remylewis8721 Před 2 lety +9

      @@adinakruijssen3056 my personal theory is that the colors indicate where alliances will be formed within the girls group and now with the boys added in its foreshadowing where the boys will fall within those alliances. Like it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Henry is one of the first ones to believe Fatin (and by extension Leah’s) theories and explanations about what’s been going on and he could be the one to clue everyone in about what Seth may be up to.

    • @adinakruijssen3056
      @adinakruijssen3056 Před 2 lety +6

      @@remylewis8721 yeah that makes sense. I wonder if the significance of Shelby and Rachel's colors from the S1 interviews was already "revealed"/could already be inferred, or if it's still part of the larger color coding that they continue at the end of S2.
      Also interesting that, while they were the only two in the same color before, they're now in different "groups". I think that makes sense with how much Rachel transformed this season. And especially how she kinda took Shelby's faith over for her (the cross kinda showing how as Rachel was finding God, Shelby was losing him). I wonder if Rachel might confront Shelby eventually (I assume she, and maybe the other in her group, will be up to something) and maybe even judge her from this new religious standpoint that they sorta share. It almost felt to me like Shelby was able to feel less guilty about straying from "gods path" because she was able to set someone else on it. She'd never throw away her cross, but she let someone else bear it.

    This show really makes you think, I think it's obvious Gretchen wanted the girls to do better. In the first episode of season 1, the girls reveal they are CPR certified, also the boy's island has a predator that attacks them. Obviously, she stacked the odds in the girl's favor, but when you look at it objectively, the boys would have done much better without the operatives. I think Gretchen knew what Seth was like when picking operatives hence why she didn't take him with her. Gretchen set the boys up for failure to ensure that the girls would succeed.

    • @elsafowl
      @elsafowl Před 2 lety +9

      well i think she is definitely biased against the boys, but i don't think she knew about the jaguar. it's like a "potential risk", but it's not like she put the boys with the jaguar knowingly (at least i hope so, bc if she did put them with it intentionally, then her study is just all wrong anyway). the girls are all CPR certified, but we don't have this information for the boys (maybe they all are too). and about Seth: i don't know what pushed her to select him, but we've seen how nice and kind he can appear to be at first glance, so maybe she was tricked? or paid less attention to the boys' group, i don't know. anyway, but i think she says she regrets choosing Seth as an operative at one point, so maybe she does realise how shitty things got. and she left him on the island, not bc he is a good operative, but bc he is really really really wanting her approval - he's way easier to manipulate than Nora, i bet. but yeah, Gretchen clearly wants the girls to "win" this study! i wonder how she's gonna interpret their interactions, now that both groups are stuck together.

    This series has awesome actors who have an excellent level of talent where they express a wide range of emotions and develop their characters over time. They for the most part were quite believable and compelling. This show addresses issues that are real concerns and problems in our society...how to deal with suicidal thinking, grief and loss, being able to be honest about who you are even when family or others in your life would castigate and shame you based on your being gay, dealing with guilt and shadow aspects of our personality..selfishness vs. self-preservation, consideration of one's own needs as well as of the well being of others in your community.
    Women in this series really let out their anger and were direct about it. They were also quick to apologize when offensive to other survivors and quick to forgive and to reconcile. The enjoyment the group had at the hot springs and the 'birthday' party was great...having fun interlaced with all that heavy drama and danger.
    I really enjoyed the character development of both the male cohort and the group of women. Initially I was prejudged against the soccer player who was 'running the show' rather than working in consensus with fellow survivors. He did indeed 'act before thinking' and initially was very one-sided in his anger, superiority complex and belittling of others. When I found out about his losing his 'father figure' coach and being expelled after being 'baited' and really looking at the complexity of this situation allowed me to feel compassion for him as well as each of the survivors.
    There were a few less plausible aspects to this show...like survivor having the too well organized delusion of seeing the ex-crush and having an extended dialogue and it all being a bit to 'normal' rather than being more fragmented and fraught, as one would imagine being in and out of psychosis, her 'vision' should have been more reflective of this. Also, when the guy came to pick up the 'mole' and the rescuer was hit in a way that appeared to have at least knocked him unconscious if not dead it seemed not realistic that there was no depiction of either an unconscious or dead body and he clearly wasn't in the boat either... Also, when the 'mole' got hit repeatedly with the oar and physical attack from "Raff" he wouldn't just have a little scrape on the side of his head and suddenly be fine like it depicted.. It looked like at that level of violence that he'd likely be either seriously injured or dead, so seeing him back at the ''lab' and 'in charge' of the continued experiment just seemed unrealistic.
    Overall, this show deals with complex current social issues and shows people changing and some of them growing in maturity even as they face adversity and differences in perspectives.

      Not at all. If you look into previous studies/experiments, which the show portrays (Stanford prison, little Albert etc) they’re called control groups because aspects of the subjects are specific, they’re in a controlled environment (the island, Johns Hopkins, a prison). They actually show an experiment example that’s happened in real life (where they make the girls all pick which bars are the same or whatever) and lihn (Jannette) is a part of one of the control groups but her part in it is quite important to the story, she was the one who was aware of the experiment and was supposed to help project conformity (which she didn’t) but it helps you understand the “control groups” parts of the series!

    Something I don’t get that I wish the show or fans can somehow explain: how did the boys’ “ending” on their island prove that they couldn’t last longer than the girls? Gretchen’s team was forced to step in and rescue the guys since they legit had access to a boat. And that was entirely the outcast, Seth’s own doing, and it’s also her fault for choosing him to begin with lmao. Besides Seth, the guys were all functioning well together and didn’t fail in any way that Gretchen implies. For them to be stranded in the water to nearly die is not a fair comparison to the girls since Gretchen is essentially responsible for that happening.

    I really don’t think the odds against the boys were stacked up against the girls worse they just dealt with it worse….they all had aggressive ppl in their midst the girls more than the boys the girls had Rachel who was overly competitive and aggressive, toni who had anger issues and leah who was EXTREMELY mentally and emotional unstable compared to the boys that only really had two kirin and seth…the girls had far more dramatic tribulations…the girls all had very personal beefs and never resorted to abuse of others and always ended up making up…the girls were mostly honest logical and empathetic from the start….also tho the boys technically “found” food that being said the girls didn’t have that luxury of having a fully stocked bunker….the odds were stacked evenly if not in the boys favor they just did worse and proved her hypothesis

    Of course she offered shelbie a new life, exactly what shelvie desired. The matrix choise one i think showed whether shelbie wants to go back to her old life or appreciate her new found self and make a new one. That must be the thing grechen offered, a life with her and tony. Also everybody knows that grechen does not plan on harming or killing any of them, just doing her experiment and the sending the kids back (all except shelbie perhaps if that was the deal)

    I was actually sympathetic to Seth up until he wanted to let Kiran drown.
    Not that his previous actions-both on and off the island-were not also illegal and should be punished but I also saw that he had obvious psychological issues, by being abandoned by his mother, years earlier.
    Seth needed as much long-awaited therapy as he needed punishment for his actions-of which, up until the boat, were, in my opinion, NOT irredeemable.
    It is nice that Leah is more respected but I blame her erratic behavior all throughout the show, even before Nora's gaslighting of her, for why she had to try so hard to get people to take her seriously.
