Spotting the new Nightjet at Top Speed | Trainspotting Westbahnstrecke

As the new Nightjet started service, we got up early and went to the track to capture this train at top speed on the High Speed Track ,,Westbahn“. Also seen can be the special ,,100 Years ÖBB“ Railjet and a triple train crossing.

In this case, the new NJ is NOT at top speed, thus there are some older wagons attached to the train (last 5 ones). The older ones can run 200 km/h, whereas the new NJ can run 230 km/h.

Does NJ ride 200kmh with those night trains ? If so it could be interesting to do long trips like Amsterdam-Barcelona in like 9 hours

@@lws7394I don‘t think that‘s possible since the TGV from Paris to Barcelona needs 6hrs 50mins already and that at 320 km/h.

@@chrislumpgod I forgot that the last stretch between Montpellier and Barcelona is not high speed yet. the last 350km takes 3hrs ! Otherwise it could be possible in 4.5-5 hours.
But top speed (350kmh) is not everything. In Sweden the 470km Stockholm-Göteborg line is travelled in 3hrs with trains with 'just' a max of 200kmh on upgraded lines (with 200kmh speed). 3x that distance is almost Amsterdam to Barcelona (in 9hrs.).
So it as much about top speed as about maintaining a 200kmh cruise speed, as they do in Sweden. (and prioritising were you do/don't stop in between. The focus for a sleeper train should be the destinations at the Med, not in central France).
So far I have not heard of sleeper trains with a cruise speed of 200kmh. imo that could mean a game changer ..

I'm hoping that we can get some Siemens Viaggio coaches for the UK to replace some of the older high speed trains we have over here. I love Siemens Taurus locos, as they're pretty much a much better version of the Class 91 that we have here in the UK. A tri-mode version of the Taurus would be good to replace some of our older high speed locomotives...

This is one of the busiest rail lines in Austria. On average there are about 20 passenger trains per hour at this location, plus another 4-6 freight trains (at night the numbers are basically reversed).

Nein. 4030 fahren schon seit 2004 nicht mehr. 4020 haben keine Cityjet lackierung, nur Cityshuttle lackierung
