    I believe I can answer the beta pokemon question. In some cases, GF can repurpose those designs into new pokemon or forms. The new paint and excitement kind of dies if beta designs are shown and then a new pokemon based off of or is just a repurposed beta design comes out. Kind of kills it. I'm sure there are tons of unused designs that never even made it to beta status so GF has a lot in the tank. I think only allowing Gen 1 and 2 betas are enough for people to get the picture.

    The "Water Starters are weapons" theory doesn't really hold up when three of them (Feraligatr, Swampert, and Primarina) simply don't have weapons. At least the Fire Starters that aren't exact or obvious Zodiac homages have workarounds (Cyndaquil is the Fire Mouse Pokemon; foxes are canines so Fennekin counts for dog), but those three Waters are just... not weaponized. They don't fit that. Water Starters are simply aquatic creatures.

    • @andrewburak1205
      @andrewburak1205 Před 2 lety +5

      The Water starters you mentioned might not be directly weapon-based, but they definitely still have attributions to weaponry. Swampert's fins can be compared to bladed fans (like Kitana from Mortal Kombat), Primarina's tail can be looked at like a flail or else there's the common "words as weapons" trope that fits as well. The only one that isn't straightforward is Feraligatr, but even than, there have been ancient weapons that were furnished with things like alligator teeth or built with their bones, so it's possibly a nod to that

  • @MagusAgrippa8
    @MagusAgrippa8 Před 2 lety +62

    Pokemon can have multiple sources of inspiration. Even the starter patterns that feel like a stretch conveniently share some aspects that could liken them to a shared source. Whether it's on purpose or not is the question, though. Take Delphox and Typhlosian for example. Foxes aren't dogs, but they are still similar to canines. Foxes simply fit the more 'magical' trend they were trying to hit with a mage pokemon. Typhlosian is a honey badger, but they go out of the way to call its base form, which honestly looks shrew-like, a 'Mouse Pokemon'.

    • @TheBlackSquirrel
      @TheBlackSquirrel Před 2 lety +11

      Exactly. Being inspired by something doesn't mean that your creation has to look exactly like the source of that inspiration. The Lion King movie was inspired by Hamlet, but it's far from a carbon copy of it. I firmly believe that Game Freak didn't initially base the fire starters on the chinese zodiac (I don't think they even expected to get more than 1-2 generations), but I do think that they have casually leaned in to it after gen 3. And as long as they don't confirm it, they're free to opt out from this whenver they want, like with Fuecco (unless it evolves into something more zodiac-like).

    • @MagusAgrippa8
      @MagusAgrippa8 Před 2 lety +5

      @@TheBlackSquirrel Exactly. There's no hard rule, just a design trend. And even then, Fuecoco could end up a serpent, or maybe a dragon. Charizard might look like a dragon, but it's not Dragon Type, so who knows maybe the Charizard line draws more inspiration from the serpent zodiac than the dragon. Again, it's a pattern, a trend. It's not a hard design rule. Just that the extinct animal, zodiac, and weapon inspiration tends to consistently crop up.

      Cyndaquil's Japanese name: Hinoarashi (ヒノアラシ), is a combination of hi (fire) and yama-arashi (porcupine) and suggests that it might in fact be based on a porcupine, although it is definitely a wordplay on hi no arashi, which means 'storm of fire’ I also can’t wait to see Fuecoco evolutions maybe then people will stop stretching these things to make their fan theory still alive

    • @MagusAgrippa8
      @MagusAgrippa8 Před 2 lety +1

      @@nazeersadek6705 Gonna be really funny when Fuecoco becomes a pepper snake. All joking aside, like I literally said in the post. Inspiration is not one sided. Fuecoco could evolve into freakin' Quetzalcoatl, a chocolate pepper gator, or a monkey for all I care. Honestly, if we want to talk about a starter theory that 'is a stretch' look at the 'grass starters are based on extinct creatures' theory. At least most of the water starters hold true to the 'designed with weapon inspiration in mind'. The worst of them would be Feraligator, which *maybe* has tire treads on its arms and legs, and Intellion who could *technically* be likened to a gun.
      Ultimately, it's all speculation. Unless we're the actual designers, we don't know what went through their heads. These just happen to be common traits that some people see and interpret when they look at the official Pokemon art.

    • @nazeersadek6705
      @nazeersadek6705 Před 2 lety +1

      @@MagusAgrippa8 I’m fully aware Pokémon can have multiple inspirations but when it comes to the starters there’s a theme between the ones introduced in the same generation and that’s it. Every living creature on this planet has an extinct ancestor so it’s not really a proof. Regarding the weapons for water starters it falls flat on a lot of them: Feraligator doesn’t have any weapons, Swapert has a Romanian helmet which is a peace of armor and not a weapon, Empoleon has a built in trident but it doesn’t take it off or use it for attacks as far as I’m aware and finally Primerina doesn’t have any weapons too that’s 4 out of 8 water starters who doesn’t have a weapon theme going for them. We already talked about the fire starter thing being debunked but ultimately if you still want to believe this fan theory then I can’t stop you but let me ask you this: why would Gamefreak limit their creativity options when it comes to starters designs by imposing silly restrictions like those?

    One of my questions is, why have Unown basically been removed from the game’s lore? They were like a cameo in Legends: Arceus. But there’s so much that could be done with them, like what if they were an accidental creation of arceus? And even it is unknown of Unown.
    Loads of Unknown appear when using that weird HG/SS arceus event. What if whenever Arceus uses its power, it also creates Unown? So that’s why it sends us in legends: Arceus instead of just fixing the problem itself as it’s literally a god. Also why it created all of these other Pokemon to do things so Arceus didn’t have to. Be cool if one game has a post hall of fame event where something so bad happens that Arceus is involved and you’ve got to deal with the fallout, add a feature where Unown can be combined to create words, and that changes its stats, like increased bulk with longer words and decreased speed. Maybe if you use “volt” that’ll be a fast Pokemon with an electric type move given to it, but if you used “electric” it would be a slower Pokemon with an electric type move given to it, obviously don’t let people have free access over it or else you’ll get slurs, but have like a decent sized list of available words.

    My favorite Unown theory is that they are heavily linked to the existence of several species in the Johto region. There's several pokemon in Johto that look like they have 'Unown' characteristics. Especially Wobuffet and Girafarig who basically have an Unown stuck to their back side, and come right after Unown in the Pokedex! They also all three share the Psychic type, and I believe Girafarig is the first psychic/normal type.

    There´s actually an explanation for the Lumiose city ghost girl. Basically, it was all Hoopa´s fault. There were two girls. One of them got trapped on an elevator because of Hoopa and died while waiting for her friend (that was trying to find Hoopa again or someone that could get her out of there). The friend tried to get help for her and told her to keep listening the elevator to know when the help will come but she couldn´t find any help because she got transported to the Hoenn region. There´s a message in the train station in gen 6 and an npc in the ORAS remakes that prove this connection to Hoopa.

    I think I can answer some of these:
    - *What happened to Blue's Raticate:* Blue simply boxed him.
    - *What's with the Kalos Power Plant:* If I remember correctly, you encounter Team Flare there, so maybe security?
    - *Is there a pattern among the starters:* No.
    - *Who were the legendary beasts originally:* Flareon, Jolteon, & Vaporeon. There is nothing that indicates that the identities were actually known, but the true indicator may be the Kimono girls.
    - *Why are there no difficulty settings:* ... I wonder if the difficulty setting thing from Gen 5 (Specifically Black 2 & White 2) was the "dropped unique gimmick" you referenced in the video.
    - *Why is there no voice acting:* Language differences plus possible limited data storage. Can Game Freak get together to do 9 different languages for multiple characters for a game? Could the Switch handle that? Can that fit in a Switch cartridge.
    - *Why is Game Freak so secretive about Beta Pokemon:* In the case that they go back to a design for a future Pokemon.

    Why no voice acting ?: Fully or even partially voice acting a game in 9 diferent languages would very logistically complex and time consuming, which doesn't go 23ll with the main series' crazy tight development cycle
    Why no difficulty setings: again, it takes development time and they rather those resources elsewhere as players can make their own difficulty

I know there's rumors floating around that Game Freak act like they are a small and poor studio and that they deliberately keep the Pokemon teams small. "It's not necessary, but Pokemon-fans also don't know how to read" OOF. Not often that I hear a sentiment like this and am compelled to agree.
    Anyways, for things like Kangashkan being born with a baby, or other Pokemon with a certain item, I'd simply file that under gameplay-story-segregation, aka Gamefreak being "too lazy" to make extra sprites or models for Pokemon that'd only show when they hatch, although Kangashkan would quite frankly just flat out require a pre-evolution. There are also ways to explain some of these away, like in Cubones case, it being an orphan only applying to one common ancestor-type Cubone, and when it evolved into the first Marowak the bones became part of its DNA and thus became features inherited by its descendants. Of course, that's just a way of speculation, which is kinda the point of the video that we can only speculate this stuff as of now, but still.
    Ironically, the shiny-locks are basically on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, limiting gameplay for the story/immersion, primarily for the story, which I guess at least makes sense to push for immersion at least in the story and less so outside of it.
    The Legendary Beasts also are an interesting case, even outside of the question of which Pokemon they once were, I've recently started questioning if the Legendary Beasts we know, the ones that Ho-Oh revived, are even the same ones spoken of in legend, or if they weren't simply named after/confused with other Legendary Pokemon, similar to the Galarian Birds, since the Beasts lore is somewhat contradictory at times to them being revived by Ho-Oh, Entei being birthed when a Volcano erupts for example, or Raikou "having descended with the lightning".
    As for the Ditto-theory, from what I recall, we were told that back then basically the entire team was in when coming up with most of the Pokemon, so while we don't necessarily know just how much Masuda was really involved with that back then already, I feel compelled to accept it when he says they had no intention to have it be a clone of Mew, them sharing the same shiny-coloration probably more so being a result of limited colorpalletes to choose from back in Gen 2, which is the reason why basically all brown Pokemon turn green and all blue Pokemon pink, so it's primarily a result of them simply sharing colors in the first place.

    So apparently Pokémon did put in a difficulty setting for Pokémon black2 and white2, you needed to beat the game and do something else to get a key, and that key could be used to unlock easy or challenge mode. Only you needed to delete your file and start a new one in order to actually use it. A video about it was released earlier today from Untitled Side Channel.

    There's a very simple solution to getting rid of shiny locks, make the pokemon in the cutscene be rendered in-engine rather than just pre-rendered, they already do it for the MC's model.

      @@charnalk5572 As long as yours has unique characters, story, and sprites (not using pokemon assets) it’s probably perfectly legal as there is no copyright issues. Plus if it’s a parody, non-profit, and/or educational (with these you can even use pokemon assets as long as you don’t copy their game 1:1, aka have different story) gamefreak legally can’t touch you for it as you aren’t doing anything against the law!

    I have a question;
    How come we never had voiced dialogue in the Pokemon games, BUT we got one in Pokemon Masters EX?
    Also, how come animals like dolphins, manatees, moose and even certain mythical creatures from legends and folktales aren't made into Pokemon yet?
    I think I can answer the mystery of Eternatus' original form.
    It could've been originally the skeletal remains from Dragon Type Pokemon and/or a mixture of Pokemon with dragon-like skeletal features, and those pieces were put together into Eternatus.
    This makes sense, especially since, according to what I've heard, some archaeologists have found the bones of animals and puts them together, since there's no real photo of what the animals from back then looked like.
    It's like having to guess what the color of the dinosaurs' skins looked like. It's like a big incomplete puzzle that we have to put together, but with different pieces that connect easily.

    I think the reason for the beta art thing is because Game freak has in the past resused or redone old designs for new games. This has been confirmed as Gen 1 was supposed to have almost 200 pokemon but some were cut out. Gen 2 saw many of these designs added like chikorita, Marial, Slugma, Teddiursa, and more. I doubt it was a one time thing.

    I believe that the reason beta Pokemon are kept secret is because they usually end up adding them into gens as new Pokemon, so it'd basically just be sort of cheating if they revealed all their scrapped designs
