The 35 and 35x were super tractors .. I loved driving them and the Ford Dexta. simple to drive and now I look at tractors now. I would be useless even starting one, yet alone driving one . look after that tractor Mr B. its a gem !!!!
BEAUTIFUL LOOKING TRACTOR!!!!! If I win the lottery I’m buying a field then 35x & just drive it around the field alllll day singing the song by the worsels.
One sure way to tell the 3 cylinder from the 4 cylinder is that the intake and the exhaust on the 4 cylinder are on the same side, the Perkins 3 is a "flow through" design with the intake and exhaust on opposite sides of the engine. Mine is a 4 cylinder Standard engine.
Yes, I'm glad to say my 35x conforms on all those points. She may not be the most beautiful example but she is very original and still does a fine day's work. From the dealer plate it seems she was delivered to the original owner in May 1963.
What a beautiful example of a 35 X . That’s my dream to get mine to that standard one day . If I lived closer we’d definitely go for a pint 🍺. Another great video thank you .
Because the differential lock did not release when turning at the headland, my father had a fatal accident in a canal when we lived in the Netherlands. We still use the 1963 Massey Ferguson 35X and it will always remain in the family. It is now enjoying the Canadian weather in Alberta. Nice video with humor!
That sounds so tragic for your family. I have often forgotten to bad the brakes with newer tractors, is if it got stuck I can imagine how quickly its situation escalated.
I’m time served at banner lane me ,when the factory closed we were all devastated, AGCO ,took the franchise and closed us down at the first chance, thank you sire for reminding me of my place in British farming history
Glad that I did that for you. It is very sad what they did to the British tractor manufacturing. It was the same for international at Doncaster. I did come down just before the end for a final visit and it was a sad time.

Brilliant video showing the difference's between the 35 and the 35x, the diff lock one is the one I hear being argued most, I do know of at least two 35x's near me that hadn't got a diff lock and were bought new by the owners, they didn't want a diff lock as the men were used working tractors without the diff lock
Absolutely Spot on with what you say, Just one Question for you to solve for me" I have heard over the years that the 35x has Chrome Liners and the 3cyl engine has Steel Liners"!! Have you or anyone else heard of this,? Many thanks and top marks for your Stunning 35x.
Have a a 135, 35,35x and a goldbelly myself and the 35x would be the favourite never once has it given any bit of bother, goldbelly is the nicest one but struggles starting and needs heaters in head and a good starter
Great tractor I like the chrome, I have a fully restored 1958 4 cylinder petrol 35, I'm in the next county to you, I grew up on farms in the 70's with new World Series IH tractors built in Doncaster, I'd love a restored one of them too (maybe a 475 /444 or a 674).But will never part with my 35.
You are spot on with the diff lock, an option on the 35X, but it was Standard on a MF 35X Multi-Power. Diff lock was about £37 pound extra for the 35X as of a Price List I have, dated 1st of February 1963. A lot of Dealers ordered the 35X fitted with a Diff Lock from Banner Lane
Great video - nice to get good info on the differences between the 35 and the X. I must say I like the air intake - my 'hard to start' 4 cylinder is a lot easier to start since my neighbour cut an extra grove in the top of the 4 pistons and installed an extra piston ring on each one for me!
@@Mr_b_yorkshire_farmer Yes, I changed the starter to a Ford starter which has a lot more life than the old one had. It always starts but it'll never be as easy to start as the 3 cylinder
Love the video pal. My uncle had a farm with two 35x and 2 65s one multi power and a 185 multi power. I learned to drive on fergies. Brings back great happy memories of cracking little tractors!
I find that the 4-cylinder 23C is a better engine. It has got better characteristics. Better torque reserve I would reckon. It's not hard to start as long as you have a working Thermostart. Unless it is very cold in the winter. Then you might want to use an electrical block heater foe a while. There is pros and cons in everything. The 23C sooth up the engine oil quite fast, and the 3-152 will drop a liner and blow the head gasket now and then.
I do not know what temperatures you are referring to when you say "cold", but I have a Lincoln SA250 welder with the Perkins D3.152 engine. It has started up with zero problems at temperatures of just under 20 Fahrenheit. I always wonder when people claim diesels are hard starting as to the maintenance and upkeep of the engine, as well as the condition/size of battery cables and terminals.I make my own starter and alternator cables from welding cable, and always much larger than necessary. Poor tuning, wear, etc are contributors to difficult starting, but far too often the cables are undersized or neglected and do not conduct well enough to give the starter adequate amperage.
I have a 4cyl 35 and fitted a crankshaft from a leyland oe160 also con rods and this gives the tractor a "LOT" more torque and power. I think it is about 2.6 litres now up from 2.3. I also have a modified diesel pump from an old commer diesel walk through van which allows it to rev at 3600rpm all day long and on the road it goes like a rocket.
Lovely tractor, just a bit curious about that gas pedal, is that a standard feature? Or is it fitted on after? Because my 35 petrol does not have it. Best regards from Denmark

Superb condition! Always fancied one but nowhere to use it at the moment. Wondered if you'd do a video giving the differences between a 35 and a 135 for us novices.😂😉👍

Is there any other ways to identity a 35 to a 35x because here in Portugal there are still lots of them but when you see them for sale they are say its 35x but I've not seen one yet with a diff lock , most have been modified with a alterator instead of a dynamo , all got underswept exhaust and not got original serial plates on , or rev counter , is there any other way to tell if its a x or not ?
@@tomotoole7241 well if the both look the same which they all do and there are mechanical or engine differences and diff lock was an option I'm struggling to see what the x stands for and the purpose of your video if there are no power difference because I've used both all my life but always found the a little more powerful and a more responsive engine
The x should have a heavier lift top cover, it should also have grease nipples on the front hub caps, some later ones, front wheels changed to 7.5 x 16 after a particular serial number, I can't recall what that number is, the engine has 2 posi drive head bolts near the sump as apposed to hex heads on a 35
