Why do you think Cillian Murphy stands with his hands in his pockets in front of Prince Harry of the United Kingdom?
There is a historical event underlying Murphy's spiteful gaze.
In 1920, during Ireland's war of independence, the order was given in Cork City that "Men with their hands in their pockets will be shot." That's why the Irish don't like the British royal family. In this shot, Irish rugby player Ronan O'Gara showed the same attitude to the Queen and caused a crisis. This is how the Irish protest in a simple but very effective way in their encounters or dialogues with members of the Royal family.

100 years ago is a long time compatibility to the age of most people that's minimum 2 generations. Yes its not several Centuries but it is still the past. As an Irishman myself, I'd like to give some perspective on this. In no way was Cillian being disrespectful to Harry as a person. As you can see, he was cordial and made polite conversation. It's what he represents is what Cillian was protesting. And by the way, it was a quiet and personal protest at that. We are not a nation to hold a grudge to the point of hurting our relationships but we will let you know in our own way that you've crossed a line and we've an eye on you!

There is a lot of evidence to indicate that the Irish famine wasn’t about poorly performing crops but instead related to laws passed banning Irish from owning any substantive property and then forcefully evicting Irish from their homesteads before winter.
There were a variety of contributing factors but to sum it up the main three were several poor seasons of crops with the blite affecting the potatoes, Irish farmers having their land taken and forced into expensive contracts to essentially rent the land and they were unable to afford the ridiculous costs and finally the probably most damaging was that the English essentially took the crops they needed before allowing them to have any which resulted in lack of food, food becoming extremely expensive and them not having money for any other food or supplies.
There was plenty of food! It was exported under armed guard.Queen Victoria is known to have blocked aid from the ottoman empire. It was an attempted genocide. Unfortunately our neighbours are so ignorant about it they continue to joke about potatoes 🙄
Both, it was both.
And the ban on importing food into Ireland.
I can believe you, because In India They did the same in Bengal...
Winston Churchill even said "If There is a Famine, why isn't Gandhi dead yet"

They have no culture at all, and Ego of a God as if
That evidence is pretty much all bollocks
There was no mass movement to genocide the Irish contrary to what people for some reason believe today. I’m speaking as a Half Irish Glaswegian btw. Why would there be? By the 1800s Ireland was English speaking, apart of the UK and a substantial source of Britains power and wealth (40% of the British military was made up of Irishman more than there were English). Fact is the Irish famine occurred because of the blight, the same blight that had wreaked havoc in all lands where potatoes grown. The thing with Ireland is that potatoes were grown pretty much exclusively as a cash crop. Where as in most of Europe, it was grown alongside other crops for consumption. The blight was most destructive in Ireland and the Scottish Highlands, two places with similar land laws. One of them being Lowland Scot’s owning land in the Highlands, and allowing Highlanders to live on the land provided they could pay (which they did in the form of potatoes), and in Ireland where it was Anglo-Irish land owners who let Irish people live on the land they owned provided they paid (which they did with potatoes).
When the blight happened the Irish and the Highlanders could no longer pay to live on the land with potatoes so the choice was to sell the food crops (and starve), or be evicted. A million died of starvation in Ireland, 4-5 million left on British boats that were headed to the Americas, Australia, mainland Europe or Great Britain, mostly to places like Glasgow, Liverpool and London.
And before you say “well the Brits didn’t help by exporting food out of Ireland”, yeah nah we didn’t help because we didn’t do that. Most of the crops and food went to buyers in Dublin, who would have also had markets in Great Britain
The Irish famine was a famine, not some weird ploy to kill off the Irish for whatever reason. If Britain really wanted to kill off the Irish, surely they would have just done what they had been doing previously, wouldn’t that make more sense?

Do you know how bad it is? Most English people can't directly explain why Irish have a reason to hate them or the royal family. They dont teach us in history class what England did to Ireland😢
@@sbsftw4232 so, edit the AI cause it still stupid! 😅 Period
@@sbsftw4232who cares if it’s AI? I stand with our Irish cousins (am Scottish) and respect that this man is not only right when discussing Irish not being spoken that way, but correct in pointing out Irish tradition considering how they were left to die during the famine. I’m Scottish Gaelic, we have our own problems with English governance and royalty (look at the Highland Clearances, it’s why so many Americans have Scottish heritage and they’ve no idea why either), so who cares that it’s an AI voice, it fills my heart with joy seeing Killian keeping up with tradition. Tiocfaidh ár lá
Is no one gonna talk about how he called him sillian Murphy?? 💀
I thought the same until I looked at the channel. It seems to be all AI produced content.
Welp.... that's because that's how it is actually pronounced 🤷♂️ 😅
Pronounced Killian.

The look he gave wasnt about him being royal, that's just his resting face
Talk about a grudge held for generations 😅
Why did he shake his hand then?? 😂😂
England took food from Ireland during the famine, after stealing Irish land and timber, leaving rotting potatoes. They also wouldn’t let Irish teach the Gaelic language in school, nor be elected mayor or police officer of an Irish city. I can go on….😊
A genocide not a famine.
I'm Cherokee Iris....... Was told I was white , but as I've gotten older I see why I'm not, it's not about skin color anymore. It's about helping others or only helping yourself
The food was sold by irish to england...did not care for their own people..wanted the money learn your history
Anti British propaganda there. It was a potato disease and famine, was the plague also the British fault? Why do the Irish love the Catholic Church? The British voted in parliament to spend billions in todays money in aid to help the Irish during the famine whereas the Catholic Church did nothing.
It was more of a genocide than a famine, Ireland had plenty of food, problem is, it was all sent out of Ireland. The only thing left for the Irish to eat was potatoes and the blight killed off most of the crops. I recently learned more about that time in Ireland and the response of the English is astonishingly cruel
I respected the Irish before I learned of their history and even more after. Time doesn't heal all wounds. Some beefs never die. There may not be punches thrown or bullets shot, but the results of some scars run bone deep. The Irish are historically known to stand ten toes down. I have several Irish friends and I'll walk down any dark alley with them.
Wounds cannot heal when there is no reconciliation from the perpetrator. Healing can only happen once progress towards this has begun. To date, the British crown have nothing to even acknowledge the atrocities committed in Ireland.
Creepy
All you’re saying is true. I unfortunately know people that would also agree with you and at the same time down play and revise the history of the American enslavement of Africans and the impact of that era across generations.
Funny you mentioned beef. The British loved Irish beef, so much that the Irish were not allowed to eat it. Even when the potatoes were rotting underground they were still required to export the food they grew instead of allowing the Irish to eat.
@@illnessshaw please do not mis apropreate my peoples history to fit your severly unreaserched narrative. You are the problem.
in America, as a child, i was belittled by authority figures and, adults constantly for having my hands in my pockets.
"SILIAN MURPHY"
Irish defiance is legendary. Hopefully that trait endures through the ages forever.
Yes! ❤
Yeah at how they can continue to suck and lose for 900 years.
that is sour losing
Wait til you hear about what Americans did.
Cillian Murphy looks like a child next to prince harry.
Cillians actually saying to Prince Harry "Sorry about my hands in my pockets but Ive gotta do the thing" and Prince Harrys like "Oh yeah man, you gotta do the thing".
EXACTLY..Also Harry doesn't give a rats arse about it all.
Wait... so both of them were aware of this historical beef and even acknowledged it themselves? Then who is Cillian protesting to, if neither of them identifies themselves as what they are representing?? Was the pocket hand directed to the 'idea' of the British royalty? Then is it like two immaterial ghosts interacting? I'm so confused lol
Sorry if I sounded rude, I'm not of this culture and it's kinda a shock.

Yo that beep / ding was so unexpected for fuck sake
To be fair, he is standing behind his morals and his family history.
If he hates the royal family, that's one thing. If he hates the British then he shouldn't have taken acting work meant for British people and hand his passport back.
I can respect it... But I must say, when black people do it in any form or fashion.. there's less empathy and honor value for them🤔
Then why show up??? I hate hitler but I’ll still show up to shake hands and get my metal hahaha
Or he's just another hypocritical narcissist like 99% of the acting fraternity that jump on the bandwagon of historical and cultural disagreement when it suits them, but would sell their grandma for a bit of exposure! If you disagree with another culture that vehemently, then grow a pair and don't be there! 🤷
Nah he still shook his hand. Total coward move.
He has pride and stands behind his people, fearing no one.
