Hey Steve, I have a z also and I found as I got to know the machine I dug everything because sometimes deep stuff can sound like ground noise. Also I found if you press the coil on the ground it makes a false signal.
The 7000 is a strange animal. I have found more targets running the gain really low, threshold of 7 so barely any noise. If the ground allows I'll run in normal but only if I know gold has been found there. Otherwise I'll run difficult and high yield. I have been trying deep but find I lose sensitivity on small shallow targets, which makes sense I suppose.
Ive dug almost pick depth chasing such a target - even had GM1000 handy but that kept losing it really weird. I do the swap too with Zsearch coil between Normal & Difficult sens9 semi auto. That giant hole was btw ground noise - analysis is if target noise doesn't get louder a couple inches deeper give up its just ground noise - even a hot rock gets louder - i did like what you showed balancing out hot ground by up & down w/o Ferrite from what John Porter wrote and Minelab won't tell - cheers Mark
I find that deep targets still stand out. When I run in normal I call the detector moaning myrtle. My mate doing a .4g Nugget in amongst hot rocks. I went and looked at it today and the ground was ridiculously hot. He would never have found it in difficult. I'm still getting used to it....
@@Gold_Hunt_Australia that's true. I tried couple of times running normal but continues noise is just to much for me because I'm going to bush to enjoy myself and gold is just a bonus.

The Monster is the best pinpointer on the market. I use it whenever I suspect large iron deep targets(is I'm near the car that is.
I never run in normal. It's just to noisy and in gt ground noise is nightmare even on difficult
