The furminator doesn't work much on my BSH. His coat is too dense. I got a deshedding comb/brush that has spaced out claw teeth. It's much more gentle and more efficient too.
A bit of advice for all cat owners. When choosing a brush for your cat, first go over the inside of your forearm on yourself. If it hurts or it turns red, the brush is NOT suitable for your cat. And that's certainly the case with that "furminator" It works like a razor and just cuts off the hair, and can cause serious injuries to your cat's skin.
Your cat isn't supposed to lose that amount of hair. Please keep reading about the furminator. Those brushes can damage your pet's fur and health because it removes unnecessary hair. It's very unhealthy in my opinion
The British Shorthairs have very dense coats and can get big clumps. I like the Furminator to help remove them with less effort and little to no discomfort for the cat.

We have owned both breeds, they shed about the same amount of fur which is manageable if you comb weekly
