    I get not wanting to double stack but the safety car issue wasn't really an issue. Jdub was literally on the safety cars rear bumper by the time they orange lighted. Most drivers would have done the same and passed it as they're flooring it over 200kph. Literally no way to stop behind the safety car. Best they could have done was to have him pull up so the safety car could pass so he could follow. Handled poorly all round.

      Maybe if he slammed on the anchors right at the last second he more than likely still wouldnt stop/slow down in time. If it was a more cynical driver being interviewed (eg me) i wouldve pointed out that at that speed i couldve potentially stayed behind the safety car... By rear ending it.
      Hope you're doing good and staying safe mate.

    The lights were green on the safety car, then suddenly changed,. It is unfair to expect any driver to notice that when they are focused on winning the Great Race.Once the safety car is deployed ALL cars should follow it until after they pass the incident and it is safe to let the back-markers go and the race leader is then at the front of the queue.The flag marshals can control an incident on the track, then the safety car called when there is a reasonable time for teams to discuss this with their drivers and call them into the pits. Bathurst can be won or lost at the last pit stop, instead of genuine car pace and strategy.Incidence and safety cars can be unpredictable, but we want to see good hard racing on the track, so the officials must be on their A game and provide clear and consistent actions all the time.

    • @gonzobombers
      @gonzobombers Před 6 lety +6

      Although good points, it would've made more sense to come into the pits, even go a little slower on entry, bit less time sitting idle, as opposed to having to suffer a drive through and if memory serves me correctly a pit stop under green
      Whincup massively stuffed up, and in many respects the Safety Car, but at the end of the day it's the driver's responsibility

    • @NxDoyle
      @NxDoyle Před 5 lety +2

      Phil Nolan You lost me at the second sentence. Saying that it's somehow an unreasonable expectation to notice a light or flag colour while they're trying to win a race (its popular status notwithstanding) is nonsense. Let's make it a generic comment. 'You can't expect an exponent of a sport to notice a fundamental part of a sport when they are playing the sport.'
      That's what you're saying. If the rules of the sport demand the 'players' abide by a codified set of rules, then the players must do so. If, for whatever reason, the rules need changing to accommodate things like the physical incapacity of _all_ racing drivers to see marshals' flags, virtual or safety car signals, then they should be reviewed and amended.
      I read _and_ replied to your comment _before_ seeing the incident you're referring to, because it didn't require me to see it to point out its flaw. So imagine my surprise when I _saw_ what, and more importantly where and how Whincup passed the SC. I was expecting it to be heavy traffic, on a bend, low visibility, basically all the little elements that force the audience, and indeed the stewards, to go back over it and over it because there was an element of doubt around the circumstances under which the driver passed the SC. But NO, he was all alone, visibility was perfectly fine and it was at the tail end of Mountain Straight. Plenty of time for Whincup to see the SC and respond. In essence what I'm now saying is that your comment isn't just nonsensical, it's fucking retarded.

      @@peterbarber7613 Phil is right, they were green when he crested the hill, then changed to orange soon after. They obviously saw him, realised he was the leader THEN changed the lights. They should have had the lights orange when he came over (they have track monitoring about where the cars are). And Jamie made the right choice to stay out and avoid stacking, giving them a chance. The only thing that can be said against Jamie however, is that he failed to notice the orange lights all the way up to turn 2, which is fair enough.

    There are a couple of things going on here that I don't understand. First of all, given that motor racing is a team sport, it blows my mind that the guys in the garage, knowing they're miked, would dump on a driver on 'live' TV. I half-expect it from petulant drivers dumping on the team (Max Verstappen is a good, recent example), but the mindset of racing teams in the heat of battle seems oddly to have slipped in terms of the "win as a team, lose as a team" attitude of say, football.
    But the thing that really does my head in is the number of people that think Whincup was hard done by getting pinged for passing the SC. Clearly yellow, and a single yellow flag for good measure from the marshal. It couldn't have been any clearer.

      Nx Doyle 95% of this was taped. The interview was the only thing that went out live. They were furious with him. He straight up ignored his bosses 3 times & then went & stuffed up it all up. A race team has 60 plus people & him, only him, went rogue & cost them the whole race. He’s an extremely egotistical person & has never been liked because of it. You saw it on display here, he thought he knew the weather better then people looking at a weather map for crying out loud.

    I don't get why the whole not wanting to pit with Lowndes is such an issue. If this was a rookie or inexperienced driver then yeh fair do's. But this is one of the greatest drivers to ever drive in this series. So he thought he had more of a chance to win/get a better result by not wasting time pitting behind Lowndes and it didnt work.... I would rather have a driver with initiative who took a risk. He didn't endanger anyone and didnt compromise his teammate. I credit him for trying.
    Hope everyone's doing good and staying safe.

    Too much pissing about to start with!! Call to Jamie should have been "safety car - pit, safety car-pit". Not the weak attitude that Dutton uses!! If that was the call Jamie would have pitted. SIMPLE!! Jamie wasn't told about safety car and assumed he had been incorrectly called. Fair enough I say given you can also see a car in front of him going onto the start/finish straight. As he said, he realised he was stuffed when he saw the safety car flags. SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE END OF IT.
    The rest of the issue was not Jamie's to answer. Poor safety car management, and a passing of the buck by whoever was responsible. They had the lights at green!! They chose ending Jamie's chances versus explaining to everyone else how and why they had STUFFED UP SO BADLY!!!
    SORT YOUR COMMUNICATION OUT RBR AND YOU DON'T HAVE AN ISSUE TO START WITH!!!
    Mark - racing legend in my eyes, but really, maybe finishing on the rear of the podium, or making a split decision based on the information he had to WIN the race? You know you would have made the same call!!

    Why do Australian racing commentators end up as loud white noise in my ear? All the shit they say just ends up as blahdy fucking blah. Now, I understand this is my problem, not yours, but when I hear Martin Brundle speak, for example, it's easy to listen to him. Whereas the blend of Australian commentators ends up as a pumpkins and potatoes mash of soundbites and trite one liners solely designed to ramp up drama. But if drama exists in the situation, there's no need the slather on more. I know they're invested emotionally, it's their job, but fucking hell, dial it down a _little_ bit.
