@@madhutalaari I meant that when she started out, she did a LOT of crap films with Jeetendra and Anil Kapoor whereas an actor of her caliber deserves author-backed roles written just for her, something we see happen for Vidya Balan and even Alia Bhatt.

One of my fav films from childhood. There is another beautiful song including both Sri Devi and Big B- this movie's title track : "Khuda Gawah- Tu mujhe kabool" . That's song of happiness and union while this one was of separation.

@@riteshadhikari5684 actually parts of it were shot in Afghanistan. The scene where Habibullah is about to be hanged and Amitab captures him is shot in the streets of Kabul, even though in the movie its supposed to take place in India.

Sridevi came at a time during 80's in Bollywood when Hindi movies were nothing but garbage . But the best part is that she stood out and shined in those movies and people just flocked to theaters to see her performance and dance ..She started getting better characters in late 80's and that's when she was the undisputed Queen of Bollywood. Her characters were Heoric and she always managed to over shadow her Male counterparts. She has refused to do many movies with Big B, SRK , Salman and Amir coz she was more interested in doing the Male part and that's when characters were Specially written for her. She was the Best and will always be . The actress who comes close to her during those times was Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla to some extent.
But Sridevi is a Unique Empress of Bollywood.

A big chunk of this movie was shot in Afghanistan during the heights of the Afghan - Soviet conflict. It is said that a ceasefire was declared in an area for a period of time so that the filming could go on unhindered.
The characters played by shridevi and Amitabh are phenomenal in this movie.

I watched this as a kid and this was a movie that showed the ultimate talent of Sridevi IMHO. She stood next to BigB, one of the most charismatic stars to ever to grace the Bollywood screen and we barely noticed him. Couldn't look away from her and it wasn't just because of her looks. She is a black hole of charisma, nothing else exists near her but her.
Also she was 2 decades younger than him. They were not contemporaries in a generational sense.

These two legends worked together twice and both was phenomenal. First one was Akhri Rasta (The Last Way) 1986 and second was this movie Khuda Gawah (God Witness) in 1992. One interesting thing in first movie Big B had double role and in second one Shridevi had double role. One more thing after first movie Shridevi decided that she will never work with Big B again as she felt Big B and his role got more priority and focus than her in Akhri Rasta. She agreed to do Khuda Gawah where her roles had same or little more focused than Big B.
