Almost all oil filters made in Indonesia are similarly made by Sakura, even if they say Mahle on the can like the Mahle OC 614 or the Nissan OE filter that is officially a Tokyo Roki! All Sakura filters have a little metal cup to locate the coil spring which is pretty distinctive. There's certainly a lot of rebranding in the oil filter industry. Come to think of it, a Hengst oil filter made in Mexico was clearly made by Mexican oil filter company Gonher too!

Due to that, they are my choice for my Renault engined A-Klass. MB filter for this engine is also produced by Purflux.
Yeah, as noted in the video, this particular Mann is from their Purolator division (i.e., the manufacturer for Ford Motorcraft) and this particular Fram is from their Purflux division, so they are quite a bit different to a "typical" Mann or "typical" Fram. It just so happens that this particular fitment had two filters that were doubles, which is good I guess, but a shame for the sake of the comparison. 🙂
If you buy Fram buy the XG. Those are the filters that are full synthetic media with wire back screening. They have silicone ADBV metal caps and inside tube. It also has the sure grip coating for easy on off with your hand. Never put a oil filter wrench on an oil filter. Hand tighten only.
Of what I've read, Mann manufacture for Bosch filters. Purflux and Fram are owned by the same company so as mentioned in the video, probably the same factory. The only way to do an oil filter comparison is get some waste oil, mix it all together, divide it up for the number of filter you have then do both cold and hot pours into each filter and see what each collects. I use Mann because they're OE to VW and we have a few of them. Sadly for Fram, its received a lot of bad reports over recent years. To play safe on the filters you use, get the filters from your vehicles main dealer and ascertain which of the filter manufacturers make them, then buy that brand at a motor factor at a cheaper price. A lot of the national motor factors sell on ebay.
Nope: Purflux is a french compagny who made high efficiency specific design oil filters sinze 1956 (and many other filter types)...was buy in 2010 by the italian SOGEFI group who is a international group with 36 manufactures all arround the world, but nothing was modified in the manufacture from the Purflux filters who are made only in Purflux factories, and 60% from the purflux filters are made in France ...this is not the case with Fram , a US compagny, rare in Europe...

For me, the Mann would be the choice out of the selection although I would choose a Hengst filter if available. I would have liked to have seen both Hengst and Blue Print included although Blue Print are actually a distribution label rather than a manufacturer.

For this particular Volvo application, the Mann Filter W 917 and the Bosch P3219 and the Volvo "genuine" filter are all identical meaning that the first is the OEM. That doesn't mean that all Bosch filters are rebrands of Mann Filter, though, this video clearly shows that for the application on Fords this is not the case. The presence of an anti drain back valve would have me exclude any filter without one as Ford deemed it necessary to have one.

I have just bought a Bosch P3259 filter for my Mondeo Mark 2 Auto 1998. I must be some what obsessive to take this level of interest. The filter was cheap, £3.79 from Euroautoparts. Made in South Africa, it looks very similar to the Purflux filter and the Fram filter in the comparison. I think there is a lot of 'labelling' that goes on.

They do have! It's located on the top. Can be identified. ALL cartridge type filters have bypass valve. Under low temperatures oil viscosity might need these valves to assure enough flow during warm up. Its function is not only to deal with cruded oil.

Had Russian made bosch spark plugs for a yaris some time ago. Mahle, sadly no longer made in Austria. Yes you guessed it, China! Looks pretty average. Mann still seems ok. Toyota oem, made in China. Everything cut open on the table in this video is much better than pretty much everything available in 2023/2024 in the aftermarket.
Little secret, if you get a filter that says it's made in Austria, it's made by Mahle, including that Bosch one.

No! In these, bypass valve is located on the top center. You can see the holes and the spring inside. Looks even clever than others.

They would probably be the same as Febi Bilstein filters. They make some good oils but I never tried their filters yet. Febi also owns the Swag brand.
