My grandpa showed me a pair of pants he used while vacationing in Paris years earlier. It was infamous for pickpockets. My grandma removed the pocket and put in a custom pocket that went down to his knees. I thought it was a genius idea.
@phoenix5054 Really? So I guess when you see Is ralph lauren Wearing jeans you believe he's wearing thirty five dollar Wranglers. When he's actually wearing $400 Double RRL jeans, When you see zuckerberg wearing those black t shirts, you believe he went to Target, when those shirts cost $ 300 !

I was robbed at the Spanish steps subway in Rome a number of years ago. My camera was stolen from my buckled/ zipped camera bag and my watch thankfully they couldn’t take as it had a deployment clasp that they couldn’t get over my hand! I say they! It was a whole family who targeted me. An old man who helped us at the ticket machine with his granddaughter ( added about 7) with the distraction she must have unbuckled my bag and zip. The change he gave me bought the ticket for my robbers to enter the subway! In the mad rush to get on a packed train a brother grabbed by camera, who passed it onto another relative on the platform as the doors was closing. When I went to the police who were outside the station they said, “ was it an old man and little girl and two brothers?” I said yes go and arrest them, he replied that every time we take them in they have nothing on them. They are a Romanian gypsy family who work as a gang to work tourists over! In the restaurant that evening I told that story to the owner who was so annoyed he gave us our meal for free.
Totally agree. It reminds me of something an old boss told me many years ago. How you dress is how you are perceived, and how you are perceived is how you are treated.
It’s not so much as looking poor but blending in. Look like the crowd and be situational aware. Dressing nice gets you noticed, lacking awareness of surroundings makes you an easy target.
Wealthy people usually dress like bums, until they actually NEED no to. Everyone else is dressing to impress because they FEEL the need for validation.
That's very true. We live in an affluent area and all the multimillionaires we know wear $3 tshirts from Hobby Lobby and clearance clothing. They also tend to drive sensible cars while the lower to mid income folks we know go for the ritzy cars, jewelry, etc. And they pay for it the rest of their lives.
Lots of upscale restaurants in Europe have a dress code. Usually means no flip flops, no tank tops, no beach shorts….including some beach bars or beach restaurants.
True, and in evening men should have a long trouser on. Some are more relaxed though. It depends on where you are St Tropez, yeah expect dress codes. Somewhere in a more little village at a small restaurant you will be fine in shorts that are slightly stylish.
I visit my local thrift store 1-2 times a week to buy great shoes and clothes. Just yesterday, I bought a gray and green pair of slacks for $8. I bought a $110 Joseph Abboud shirt for $10. It's possible to dress great on the cheap.
Couldn't agree more. I was at one yesterday. I bought a pair of shoes that would cost about $50. They were very well taken care of. I bought it for no more than $5. Thrift stores can be your friend at times.
@@ghart98 The last pair of shoes I bought from my local thrift store were Allen Edmonds loafers almost brand new. I think they were $350 new. I paid $13 for them.

A tip for everyone who sees this video and it applies, this about pickpockets. Make sure you get a wallet that is large enough to fit in the front pocket, because pickpockets are rich in back pockets and inside pockets on blazers or open jackets. They can't snatch a wallet from the front pocket. If you want to be fucked, you can take an old wallet and put it in your back pocket and in the exchange where it should be, you can put a couple of notes the size of a dollar. On these you write Feel blown away. Had done this myself when I visited Stockholm in Sweden, down on the platform by the subway, it was crowded with people and all of a sudden I feel someone take my old wallet out of my back pocket. I stood still and looked over the crowd, all of a sudden I see a stack of white paper fly up into the air, then I had a good laugh because as I said the thief got a wallet with a pound of paper that said in big letters: Feel blown. The real wallet was in the front pocket with all my money (in those days there were no debit cards, but everything was paid in cash).
@@888SpinR Well, that's for sure, because the person who told me where to keep the wallet was a former pickpocket. Because he said they want to grab something quickly and disappear before the victim sees who it is. It is impossible to take a wallet from a front pocket in the trousers and is smaller so that it does not stick out.
@@888SpinR it's definitely not true, of course, depending on the conditions. But in Ciudad de México MFers are so good that, for instance, in the subway where it's crowded as hell they makes large groups, act like passengers and push you from the sides, front and back and distract you from any pockets and take your wallet/phone. I did fall for that once and never again. I keep my hands in my pockets grabbing my stuff when I gotta go in public transportation
While I can see that looking poor trend is important, I also think that it's not to help keep people from all harms. Now matter how poor or simple you look, if you put yourself in vulnerability, you'll be harmed.

Dress poor or dress like you’re wealthy people have a general idea of your QUALITY by your overall presence and stature. You can’t fool a person with a trained eye even if you are rich or poor and it is laughable to even try.
I usually care alot how i dress since i am here but when i dress poor and goes down to the mall the employes in the fancy stores dont even say hello to me :) so i never spend my money there. The staff that are nice get my money instead.
I just saw an article at Conde Nast Traveler asking, Whatever happened to looking nice on an airplane? I'm hoping this kind of question becomes a trend.
Just flew back from Europe. The amount of sweatpants and flip flops was disheartening. I was in a pair of chinos and a polo. Doesn't take much to clean up!
Well, overseas flights are often 8 or more hours, so comfort comes first, furthermore, anything you wear is going to need to be washed after a long flight so...do you want to wash some chinos and a t-shirt or pay to have a suit pressed just so you could be the dud wearing a suit on a plane?
Couldn't agree more that 'dressing poor' on purpose, is a moronic idea and practice. Unfortunately most of my friends do this, and have been so for a long time. Despite my very subtle hints, I am unsuccessful in my efforts to have them 'up their game'. Dressing well, is all about confidence - and has nothing to do with personal wealth, but has everything to do with personal values.
Thank you for this video sir. I’m so tired of some people believing that if you “look nice” or “dress nice” that you’re poor trying to “look rich” and they’ll always use certain millionaires or billionaires that “look like bums”. First of all, just because someone or some people attain millions of dollars doesn’t necessarily mean they are automatically gonna start dressing a certain way if they weren’t in the beginning. Some people whether rich or poor don’t care what they look like and some people, like me, 😊 whether rich or poor care about not only my character but also my presentation. Thanks Antonio

It all depends on where you live. If you live in a bad area, wearing nice clothes, driving a nice car, displaying cash/jewelry will make you a target. Trust me.
My grandmother used to teach me that one must dress well when being invited to be a guest in someone's home or going to town. We were living in a poor county in Kazakhstan, and made our living selling milk and popatoes. I always wear shirts although casual ones, I wish I could afford Italian bespoke casual suit everyday, but EUR 5000 is too high a price to pay. The rich in America could dress well as ladies and gentlemen, but they are seem to be so arrogant to care about what they put on their backs. And yet they wear T-shirts and 100 000 watches.
My wife and I went to dinner last night. I was dressed in lululemon sweats, running shoes and a plain black t shirt. My wife in a tank top and lululemon leggings. Upscale restaurant. Some Michelin recognition or whatever. Perfect service. Perfect respect. Etc. Take away message. Be the part is much more important than looking the part. Servers etc see hundreds and hundreds of people. Great servers should all work for the cia or something. As they know how to read people immediately. For maximum tip. Great servers know the real deal from posers regardless how they appear. Hey, at least I put on shoes. Not flip flops.
@@PhuongLe-kv1hy Respecting people is in your actions and attitudes toward them. It's actively seeking the good of another over your own agenda and NOT posturing and preening to make YOURSELF look good
If the bad guy has a gun pointing at your face, you are enough vulnerable no matter what you are wearing. Sometimes is better to conceal your income because a higher prize worth the risk. But I agree that this looking poor trend is stupid. I think in James Bond: Pierce Brosnan looks elegant wearing anything and Daniel Craig looks cheesy wearing anything.
What if you are an Engineer, I feel like this job is in the middle of dressing like a laborer and an suit but its in conflict. If your in this line of work should you dress up a level? Also what if you are a laborer and dressing like your poor is a way you try and show solidarity or "rep" your lifestyle.
My grandfather was pickpocketed while he was serving in WW2, so he always put his items in his front pockets from that point forward. I do the same since I don't like placing items in my back pocket in general as well as for the same reasons as my grandfather. I do agree that dressing well doesn't have to mean spending a ton of money on your wardrobe. I used to wear a ton of business casual for work due to how my old job's dress code was and I enjoyed the fit of most of those dress shirts and slacks as opposed to wearing jeans. Also, my dress slacks would last me for years as opposed to jeans lasting me for much less due to how the material wears.
I like to dress for the occasion, whether I’m cutting the grass or going out for a semi formal occasion and I totally agree with dressing for opportunity. Just looking your best is always a good thing.
Random guys always want to be my business partner leading me to think I either look extremely competent and instill confidence, or I look extremely gullible and an easy target to be conned lol
Everyone in America looks "poor".... The GenZ's with their baggy clothes that look straight out of Goodwill. Nevermind, they don't look poor. They look homeless. Just dress nice; no flasy brands. Or wearing expensive watches in tourist areas abroad.
@@javiervega1065 No thank you. I prefer my regular fit shirts and slim pants. Why would I want to be swimming in fabric, and looking like the letter A.
It looks like goodwill because it probably is goodwill. gen-Z has more important things to worry about (like the world falling apart) than to impress some pretentious boomers
@@ggez5890 Every generation has thought that the world was falling apart, going to hell in a handbasket, or something to that extent. It’s no excuse. Also, I don’t know how many boomers you’ve been around lately, but a lot of them definitely don’t have style…
I agree 100%. What I dont like about most modern wealthty people that they want to look so down to earth they dont got any style, Whats the point? If you look most statistics, its people who are less well off than rich people who buy expensive fashion. Most fashion is not bough by rich people but middle incomer or lower by statistics. If you want to look average person, infact you should dress up. Of course it may not mean latest Nike shoes, or most flashy lteast fashion of month jacket. But you can make a smart difference. Besides clothing up smart way means you got confidence. You are not hiding you know what you are doing. You show you have some means, smart taste and you have no problem showing it: message any man should signal everyrone aroind him. Even if you are richets person on world, if you got broken jeans, no grooming and you smell like bad, most women will pass you even if you are good looking and wealthy: first impressions matter.
Good advice. Btw, if a club or bar in Central or Eastern Europe has "face control," (i.e. no line, just bouncers picking and choosing people to come in) if you want to get in, wear a suit.
The first 2minutes happened not because he was dressing poor with a bling watch, it happened because he did not do his research before going to that location. When going to a nice restaurant with a chance to get better service and brought to the front of a Queue because of how u look, than yes, wear appropriately. Going to to a casual meal with buddies, why wear designer clothes? It's all about function, possible opportunities and calculated risks.
So glad I don't care about any of this. I live in a warm weather climate. Jeans, chinos, t-shirts and maybe a polo if I want to dress up LOL. Pretty sure this guy would think I look "poor"...informality seemingly being his mortal enemy. Also, married to a gorgeous woman for eleven years. She and I both have zero desire to hang out at places where people wear suits and expensive bling. They look like places for uptight, pretentious, narcisists to go and try to impress like-minded folks. A $50k Rolex? Yeah...in my book, anyone wearing something like that is just saying, "Hi, I'm a douchebag!" I'm sure he made up that story, but if not, I'm laughing at him and buying the robber a Peroni.
The thing, is you gotta find balance, you dont have to wear expensive shit 24/7 neither some thrift store backstorage junk, dress for the matter in hand
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve heard the sad story of “this happened to a friend of mine” and this version of the Rolex being stolen in Rome is an old one I’ve heard many times. Not saying you’re lying but it doesn’t make your story any more convincing to say it was a friend of yours instead of quoting a well-worn tale that still applies to current events.
1. Rich people are often easy targets because of their frequent lack of knowledge while traveling to different areas and not knowing which areas are dangerous etc. 2. Also, the stats obviously don't back it up because poor people live in areas where criminality is higher, therefore being often targets of criminals, whilst rich people live in more safe areas. 3. The feelings you gain by wearing different clothes are definitely real, but just because you might not be wearing something more professional shouldn't mean that the task at hand shouldn't be done in the best of your capabilities. It's basically a state of mind, and you might need clothes to enhance it (obviously certain shoes will make you run better etc. as these enhance your physical ability, not your psychological). 4. Looking poor has, like any other type of clothing, a Purpose. We can see this in celebrities, to bore paparazzi while wearing the same ugly clothes. To not attract, to be ignored. 5. Expensive clothes can look ugly (clothes in general) like the whole trends with supreme, Gucci etc. Knowledge of style is just as important for expensive clothing. Just getting second hand jeans, jackets and a plain t-shirts is often enough for someone to look presentable even if that person is poor. So at the end wearing whatever type of clothing, is not stupid as long as it has purpose. Following trends blindly, no matter the trend (expensive or not), can look stupid.
I’m not so sure I agree with everything here. I grew up in Venezuela. The norm was “be low-profile.” Everyone I knew who was flashy, wore fancy clothes, watches, drove expensive vehicles, etc got robbed, mobbed, and even kidnapped and murdered. This was especially true if you were from a wealthy, well-known family. Yet a different contingent of society back home wanted to push the idea that you had to “dress to impress.” Yeah those people got a reality check coming 😂 Something I loved about moving to the USA is the lack of attention paid to those things - everyone just minds their own business. If you wanna dress like a bum, go ahead. If you want to dress like a multi-millionaire, go ahead. There are times where I just wanna get something from the grocery store and a go in my pijamas. But if I’m going out, it’s a nice shirt, slacks and a fancy leather jacket/blazer for me. If I wore something nice every single time I go out of the house, then it would lose it’s luster for me. Too much formality. The fact that I have my slippers and pijamas days makes the fancy leather jacket/blazer days that much more special.
Even in America if you dress down, you aren't respected as if you dress up. Race also takes part in one perceptions. Some races can get away dressing down better than others.
I know we're all into Comfort these days, but things have gone way too far the other way. Whatever happened to style and glamour in this world? The rich should dress like they are actually rich not like my buddy running to pickup diapers at Wal-Mart.
9:16 Put me down as someone who saved too much. Single, never married, no kids $6M. I initially dressed well but I’m now waking up from a decade of t shirts and jeans. I’m actually going to have more style in retirement than working. 😂
I completely disagree with this video. Despite my disagreements however, you made a coherent and well reasoned case for dressing well. Keep up the thought provoking content!
Rubbish ! You would not wear a Rolex Watch in certain places in Rome or London or any big city in the west. You would not turn up for an interview for a job as a CFO wearing track suit bottoms and a hoodie. It is about being appropriate.
I've discovered that if you dress the poor look when shopping for a new car the sales people will generally live you alone so you can actually look around . Then when you actually consider buying something dress better. Then the sales people will seek you out.
No one wants to look poor. That's just an absurd thing you came with. Some people don't care about how they look or they can afford not caring. Or perhaps they feel comfortable with a most common t-shirt and jeans. I find it much more ridiculous to have poor people pretending to look rich.
00:00 🤖 A friend had his $50,000 Rolex stolen in Rome; he realized that thieves often target those who seem vulnerable, not necessarily wealthy. 01:10 🕵♂ Dressing well doesn't increase your risk of theft; thieves typically target the vulnerable, not those who dress nicely. 01:31 📉 Dressing poorly can affect your confidence and performance negatively; studies show that wearing clothing associated with higher status can boost performance. 03:38 🧠 Good grooming and dressing well can impact how others perceive your confidence and capabilities, even if they can't smell you. 06:00 🚪 People often make snap judgments based on appearance; not looking the part can lead to missed opportunities and poor treatment. 07:21 🎯 Dressing well opens hidden opportunities; appearance can influence how others perceive your potential and worth. 08:33 🕴 Dressing well is important for personal and professional interactions; it’s better to put your best foot forward, even if you're frugal. 08:45 💸 Being frugal and buying second-hand items can still allow you to dress sharply, but it requires time and style knowledge. 09:05 🛍 It's okay to buy luxury items if it fits your budget and doesn't hinder your financial goals; balance between saving and enjoying life is important. 09:35 🌟 Over-saving can lead to missing out on life's experiences; don't let frugality prevent you from enjoying life or improving your lifestyle.
I wouldn't say 'stupid' or 'look rich instead' either. But it's better too see good looking people, isn't it? Like it is an intrinsic value. Another point is the message it sends. I ignore any young lady in all black. How boring!!! Day time, summer time... Repellent look. 🫣

@@ssing7113 On a flight to Japan, a guy went into the toilet and came out changed into his pyjamas!
@@KaleoMgmt Yep, the lack of pride in appearance is shocking. Flip flops are for the beach, and the beach only!
Well, overseas flights are often 8 or more hours, so comfort comes first, furthermore, anything you wear is going to need to be washed after a long flight so...do you want to wash some chinos and a t-shirt or pay to have a suit pressed just so you could be the dud wearing a suit on a plane?
One of my fav videos in a while. You rock, keep it up!
THIS!
Always found the " Dress Pour " concept counter-intuitive. Presentation will always be key to getting ahead in life. GOOD Content Antonio!
I was a stay at Home disabled dad with no money in my IRA or any savings of my own, which was scary at 53 years of age. Three years ago I got a part time job and save everything I make. After 3 years, I am 56 yo and have put $9,000 in an IRA and $40,000 in my portfolio with CFA, Abby Joseph Cohen. Since the goal of getting a job was to invest for retirement and NOT up my lifestyle, she was able to scale this quickly to $150,000. If I can do this in a year, anyone can do more.
Abby Joseph Cohen Services has really set the standard for others to follow, we love her here in Canada 🇨🇦 as she has been really helpful and changed lots of life's
The very first time we tried, we invested $7000 and after a week, we received $9500. That really helped us a lot to pay up our bills.
How can i reach this abby Joseph Cohen, if you don't mind me asking?
@@FerdinandoAmbrosanio
Well her name is 'ABBY JOSEPH COHEN SERVICES'. Just research the name. You'd find necessary details to work with a correspondence to set up an appointment.
Great share! Out of curiosity, I searched Abby Joseph Cohen Services online, found her consulting page ranked at the top, and scheduled a call session. I've read many reviews about advisors, but none seem as impressive as hers.
The looking poor trend is stupid and so is the designer fashion that makes people go broke fast, A good suit can go a long way
It all depends on where you live. If you live in a bad area, wearing nice clothes, driving a nice car, displaying cash/jewelry will make you a target. Trust me.
This summary is great.
I’m rich. I sit there shaking my head saying I made it to then be “poor”. 😂😂😂. NO. NO.
You can be fashionable and stylish while still being practical and frugal. Just watch Antonio's videos and read articles on men's fashion.
Someone that dresses with care projects the idea that they’re paying attention - and it’s a lot harder to hoodwink someone that’s present and alert.
We dressed nice because we respect the people we will meet ❤
@@PhuongLe-kv1hy Respecting people is in your actions and attitudes toward them. It's actively seeking the good of another over your own agenda and NOT posturing and preening to make YOURSELF look good

But I agree that this looking poor trend is stupid.
I think in James Bond: Pierce Brosnan looks elegant wearing anything and Daniel Craig looks cheesy wearing anything.
I love this advice. So true. 100% with you on this

Not if you're Chad bro
Not if you're Chad.

Yeah ya gotta dress up for 💰
i agree. you can dress well on a budget. and i notice when i do dress well, i get better service and get treated better in general.

Everyone in America looks "poor".... The GenZ's with their baggy clothes that look straight out of Goodwill.
Nevermind, they don't look poor. They look homeless.
Just dress nice; no flasy brands. Or wearing expensive watches in tourist areas abroad.
Nothing wrong with baggy clothes actually you should dress that way as a man
@@javiervega1065 No thank you.
I would not travel with a luxury watch
I have a friend who is an architect. He never visits clients in an expensive car, says they'll think he's charging too much.

good point.....I love blondes, maybe brunettes. for a while they were the only options. BUT, dated and married a smokin' hot redhead
Good advice. Btw, if a club or bar in Central or Eastern Europe has "face control," (i.e. no line, just bouncers picking and choosing people to come in) if you want to get in, wear a suit.
@@derronstravels21 Eastern Europe is so backwards. I hate the night out culture there. So stuffy.
So "as they see you, they treat you" right? The more i learn and experience, more obvious becomes. Simple and complex.
Who wears a $50,000(!) watch in public while site-seeing in Paris?!?!?! Sorry, but that's just stupid.
I don't think it actually happened..

I live in Memphis. Believe me, you want to look poor in Memphis!
True enough but not all the time. I figure if you have to dress well or you're going out, have that thang on you at least.
Most of you guys don't have gold to dig...🤣🤣🤣
I’m not a gent, but as a woman I wholeheartedly agree with everything you say!
Thank you!
Even in America if you dress down, you aren't respected as if you dress up. Race also takes part in one perceptions. Some races can get away dressing down better than others.
What if you are poor so you have too.
G-Shock on holiday. No-one ever gets robbed for wearing a G!
My god yes
I know we're all into Comfort these days, but things have gone way too far the other way. Whatever happened to style and glamour in this world? The rich should dress like they are actually rich not like my buddy running to pickup diapers at Wal-Mart.
Tell me a 'fashion' trend that was born in the US that wasn't stupid😂

There's more to this story that we learned to endure daily. In the name of WHAT?
9:16 Put me down as someone who saved too much. Single, never married, no kids $6M. I initially dressed well but I’m now waking up from a decade of t shirts and jeans. I’m actually going to have more style in retirement than working. 😂
I completely disagree with this video. Despite my disagreements however, you made a coherent and well reasoned case for dressing well. Keep up the thought provoking content!
If you are looking for women, dress up. If you already have one, its optional.
Rubbish !
You would not wear a Rolex Watch in certain places in Rome or London or any big city in the west.
You would not turn up for an interview for a job as a CFO wearing track suit bottoms and a hoodie.
It is about being appropriate.
Excuse me but international vs domestic crimes seem culturally like apples and oranges.
I've discovered that if you dress the poor look when shopping for a new car the sales people will generally live you alone so you can actually look around . Then when you actually consider buying something dress better. Then the sales people will seek you out.
It's hip to be square, and It's hip to look poor. The bigger the hat, the fewer the cattle.
No one wants to look poor. That's just an absurd thing you came with. Some people don't care about how they look or they can afford not caring. Or perhaps they feel comfortable with a most common t-shirt and jeans. I find it much more ridiculous to have poor people pretending to look rich.
Same goes for cars, people respect good looking cars.
Did you just call me stupid?!
