- कोरियोग्राफर अपने फिल्मी जीवन का आगाज किया था. वह लेखक भी थे. उन्होंने कई कहानियां लिखी थीं, जो अंग्रेजी पत्रिका 'इलस्ट्रेटेड वीकली ऑफ इंडिया' में छपीं.
गुरुदत्त के पिता का नाम शिवशंकर राव पादुकोण था. मां वसंती पादुकोण की नजर में गुरुदत्त बचपन से ही बहुत नटखट और जिद्दी थे. सवाल पूछते रहना उसका स्वभाव था. कभी-कभी उनके सवालों का जवाब देते-देते मां परेशान हो जाती थीं. उनकी मां ने एक इंटरव्यू में कहा था, 'वह किसी की बात नहीं मानता था. हमेशा अपने मन की करता था. बहुत गुस्सैल भी था'.

उन्होंने गायिका गीता दत्त से सन् 1953 में विवाह किया. 'प्यासा' और 'कागज के फूल' जैसी क्लासिक फिल्मों के निर्माता गुरुदत्त के बेटे अरुण दत्त कहते हैं कि वह अक्सर चुप और गंभीर रहते थे. लेकिन उनका मन हमेशा एक बच्चे जैसा था. वह पतंग उड़ाते, मछली पकड़ते और फोटोग्राफी भी करते थे. गुरुदत्त को खेती करना भी काफी पसंद था.
Actor, director and producer, Guru Dutt, the man behind classics like Pyaasa (1957) and Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1960), was nothing short of a multi-faceted genius.
Born as Vasanth Kumar Shivashankar Padukone in Bangalore on 9 July, 1925, he was a victim of an accident early in his life, and got his his name changed to what he considered more ‘auspicious’.
In 2010, Dutt was included in CNN’s top 25 actors of all time, but the journey of the actor-filmmaker was full of challenges and ended with a tragic death on 10 October, 1964.

सालों पहिले जब मुंबई मे अरोरा थेटर मे गुरुदत्तजी का फिल्म फेस्टिवल लगा था तब मैने गुरुदत्तजी की पुरे हप्ते हर दिनमे एक ऐसी 7 फिल्म लगातार देखी थी!
After the flop of Kaagaz Ke Phool, Guru Dutt made tons of money with the release of Chaudivin Ka Chand. Then he made Saheb, Biwi Aur Ghulam which is also a classic. He had acted in Bharosa and Sautela Bhai to earn money as an actor. Unfortunately, Shams and his team has not done proper research and presented a patchy narration. His film Baaz as a director was a failure which was produced by Geeta Bali on the name of her sister. Ismat Chugtai had written a novel on Guru Dutt's life, entitled Ajib Aadmi.
No doubt he committed suicide because he was suffering from depression. He was too lonely and he should have persuaded Geeta to come back to his life. A sensitive person who failed to understand himself.

Due to various reasons.i had failures in love and career studies.Today I am M gov't PENSIONER and FARMER by Occupation. My 2 children are well educated and busy in work. People forget that how he destroyed his friendship with Dev Anand. In those times Dev Anand was the only person who could helped him. He might have great career but he was responsible for his own actions and he couldn't face it when going gets tough. Suicide is choice not a necessity. It shows thta he was week willed.

Absolutely correct. Guru dutt was not a man with conviction and firm will power.Geeta Dutt was a beautiful and loving wife.equally talented and a much better singer than mangeskar sisters. But due to guru dutts adultery her family was sunk. It is unfortunate for all of us that India lost two of her most talented artists .
