Hi guys and welcome to my first real CZcams video.
And it goes right to the point. I met with the soccer world champion from 2014 Mats Hummels in Dortmund for a very exciting event. It was about who of us can sprint faster over the 400 meters. And it turned out to be one of the most exciting challenges of the year for me and for Mats!
After our race, I talked to Mats about how he dealt with his nervousness before his first game as a professional player.

Und dabei geht es gleich richtig zur Sache. Ich habe mich mit dem Fußball-Weltmeister aus 2014 Mats Hummels in Dortmund für ein sehr spannendes Event getroffen. Dabei ging es darum, wer von uns beiden schneller über die 400-Meter sprinten kann. Und dabei wurde es für mich und für Mats wohl eine der spannendsten Herausforderungen des Jahres!
Nach unserem Rennen habe ich mich mit Mats u. a. darüber unterhalten, wie er vor seinem ersten Spiel als Profispieler mit seiner Nervosität umgegangen ist.

You know, Alicia runs regularly a 53 second 400m. She was probably going a little slower but Hummels was only 4 seconds behind her. Meaning, Hummels ran a below 60 second 400m for his first time which is pretty fast, considering that Hummels is regarded as one of the slowest players in football.
i ran a 51 sec 400m in HS but now (18 years later) im an overweight lazy fat ass who gets tired wakling up a single flight of stairs.
60 seconds isn't impressive at all for an athlete of Hummel's caliber. But there's a first time for every thing

Finde toll, dass Ihr Euch für diesen Event zur Verfügung stellt und ihr habt auch sehr nette Interviews gegeben. Kaum vorstellbar, dass ein Spitzensportler so nervös sein kann, wie es Mats dargelegt hat. Vielen Dank aus Österreich!

I’m a high school runner and can pretty safely say that a 400 doesn’t require too much endurance. Obviously some is required but the 400 is considered a sprint event, not distance. I run the 5k and can all out sprint 400 meters without feeling completely exhausted afterwards - although my sprint isn’t very good so that 400 time still only comes out to around 55 seconds

The purpose of both the athletes is different. For Alica, she has to run a finite distance in the shortest possible time to achieve target. For her she can run with all the energy in one session. For Matt, the goal is to remain active on the field most of the time, and spending whole energy in one single run will prove problematic. Thus Matt trailing behind Alica is absolutely OK and I would have been puzzled and confused if the reverse would have happened.

the chick isnt all that fast tbh.. her best is like 51 seconds in 400m.. i ran a better time when i was 16 (49.39)... so Matt Hummels is very very slow even for a footballer

He lost but he wasn't far behind, remember that he is better in short fast running that you often do in football. I think he did a very good race. Moore athletics in different sports should do these type of challenges and put it up on youtube. It wood be fun!

400 und 800 Meter waren im Schulsport immer die Hölle, man muss echt "verrückt" sein, um so etwas professionell zu machen: Respekt an die Sportlerin! Und auch cool, dass Hummels die Leistung völlig un-macho-mäßig anerkennt!

Man kann einfach nicht kurze Sprints über max 50m mit einem 400m Lauf vergleichen.

Unglaublich! Zwei großartige Athleten, die die Kraft der körperlichen Ausdauer messen, während Matt Hummels in hervorragender körperlicher Verfassung ist. Dieser Test zeigt, welcher Sport eine konstantere körperliche Ausdauer und länger erfordert. Mein Respekt und meine große Bewunderung für Frau Alica Schmidt.

400m is the toughest race in track. You're basically running at 95% of sprint speed (100m) for four times as long. First time I tried it at HS competitive level I thought I was doing pretty well as I was right with the fastest guys -- then I hit the 300m mark and realized I was completely out of gas and had to pull up and stop. You have to be a sprinter with incredible endurance to run the 400m.
800 is also crazy hard
dont be silly 95 % is way to much , i would say 80-90 % of your maximus speed , about 95 % of speed maybe on 200 meters never on 400
@@zdravkojovanov5217 That's (almost) correct and actually an easy calculation. 100m WR is 9,58s. 400m WR is 43,29s. So 400m is run at 88,5% speed of the 100m.
I ran the 400m in college. IMO, the 400 is hard, but the 800 is way harder. Talk about pain! The only 800 I tried, I was in such oxygen debt at the finish line that I couldn't see in color anymore. Everything was shades of purple. It was the last time I ran that race, too much suffering, plus I wasn't good at it.
@@svenner80 well you are considering that the 400 m world record holder has a pb of 9.58 in the 100m . but thats not the case , so the percentage is much higher than 88% . for wayde van neikerk ( current wr holder with 43.03) his 100 pb is 10 s so it is around 92 % .
The 400 meters is one of the most intimidating races in track and field. An all out lactic acid sprint in which your blood turns almost into poison.

Not to mention Mats is too heavy for 400m
Most People start too quick and lose all their remaining Power at the end
Yeah i think 400m is the most difficult discipline to get it right. You can´t start to quick or you get trashed at the end, and you can´t start to slow or you do leave to much behind.
And you need everything as a runner, a good steady pace, and a lot of high cadence stamina.
The tennis shoes don't help either!
That is not his only disadvantage. Look at 0:45 for comparison. Alicias hips are as high up, if not even higher, than Matts, although overall she is quite a bit shorter. So her leg-torso-ratio is way higher than his.

400 m is all about pacing yourself.
The fastest player may not win against a trained runner.

@@TVSuchty Der Typ ist Innenverteidiger, wird in 2 Wochen 32 und war generell noch nie dafür bekannt schnell zu sein, außerdem macht man im Fußball immer wieder kleine Sprints von maximal ca. 80 Metern (nach einer Ecke mit Konter). Das war von vornherein kein Rennen auf Augenhöhe.

Ich sag mal, jedem ist klar, dass Mats nicht der schnellste Sprinter ist, aber mega nice und Hut ab, dass er da mitgemacht hat! Und mega nice Leistung Alice!
Leichtathlet und Fussball sollte man nicht vergleichen! Alice läuft regelmäßig 400m im Training oder in Wettkämpfe! Ein Fussballer lernt Vollsprint im Zweikampf oder 50 - 70 m Vollsprint bei Konter!
Alica ist echt eine Maschine! Respekt. 💪

She’s a pro track 400m sprinter against the tall slow Centre Half. She was also wearing spikes, these special shoes XCTF people wear for a race

Why would you let a female 400m athlete race a soccer player over 50/100m? That is the exact distance they train for. If you want such a kind of race you should pick an athlete that races 100 m

400m ist glaub ich wirklich die allerschlimmste Distanz die man auswählen kann. Absoluter Horror. Respekt an diejenigen, die diese Disziplin meistern.
Ich glaube ich würde wenn ich es mal versuche 200m Sprint hinlegen dann bis 300m kämpfen und dann absolut zusammenbrechen.

Krasses Video. Da hätten gern noch nähere Aufnahmen vom Lauf dabei sein können. Der Laufstil von Alicia sieht grade im Vergleich zum Dahinballern von Mats echt super leicht aus. 👍 Find ich gigantisch, wenn sowas schweres so leicht aussieht.
