Vienna being "German Paris" kinda makes sense in a historical context, since both were capitals of rival empires and both cities were considered "crown jewels" or a way of showing off wealth and prestige, so both cities had the greatest architecture for it's time alongside some massive state constructions.
Maria Antonia/Antoinette's daughter was married to the Archduke of Austria and they lived in Lower Belvedere, after her parents were executed in the french revolution.
She was always complaining about missing Versailles, so the emperor built the Belvedere gardens in similar style.
Drew has to make a plushie of himself as a countryball, call it horrendous idgaf we need drew ball canon
Day 1 of many
yes please. And people, you can't stop it, it's a canon event

There were actually a lot of Germans who emigrated to Argentina and other parts of South America before WWII. Some German dialects- which are now extinct in Europe- survive only in South America. Pomeranian is one. The area that was Pomerania is now part of Poland and was de-Germanized after WWII (German populations were expelled).
Also, considering her age, I guess her grandfather was in school at that point (if he was alive at all)
my grandparents came to argentina in the late 30's and they were like 5 or 6 years old
To be fair most germans that came to Argentina actually came from Russia
Japanese Doitsu comes from Dutch Duitsland because they are the primary source of Western information in the Edo period.
4:50 missed opportunity "destroyer of galaxies"
So the dutch at 8:42 translated means
Oopsie Woopsie, the train is brokeny sokeny, we are “very busy” trying to fix it, maybe tou could take the bike UwU
OwO is not a dutch word
Yet
Thanks
Drew's pronunciation of Saksa was perfect.
Its interesting how france and Finland use the name of the tribe they interacted the most with as name for germany.
For anyone wondering, the meme at 9:36 is making fun of Mexico for not winning any world cups
Welcome to Barcelona, where we celebrate the 24, 25 and 26 of december, rest for a couple of days, celebrate the new years, rest for a couple of days more and celebrate the three magic Kings on the 5 and 6 of january
The Danish Queen just announced she's retiring in two weeks time. First Danish King in like 50 years.
We kind of did the "two Christmases" thing when I was a kid. At my house, you opened presents on Christmas Eve, and then around noon on Christmas Day we made the long, long trip to my great-grandparents house for dinner with my great-uncles and aunts and their families (I'm kidding, it was like a mile for most of us, but my grandmother's sister and her family did have to drive several hours to get there).
9:41 bro realy tried to sneak México in
Hahahahaha, Drew talking Dutch is funny, but it’s even funnier if you are dutch
Isn't it Dutch UwU Speak?
@@Attaxalotl Correct! It's on a train schedule board and loosely translates to (in normal English): "The train is broken! We are working very hard to fix this maybe it's better to cycle" hope this helps even the slightest bit
@@SylvyTheSylveonwait it’s really Dutch???
Yeah, it's really Dutch but spelled terribly 😄
Anyone speaking Dutch sounds funny to me as a non Dutch person.

Happy New Year Everyone! Awesome Video Drew!!!
8:18 traumatised by what the Hetalia fandom has done to the Japanese name for Germany
2:40 The Dutch don't celebrate St. Stephen's day. We just call 26th of December 2nd Christmas day.

Petition for Drew to make a series covering Ace Combat and its multiple universes: [Day 335]
The Dornier Do 335 Pfeil ("Arrow") is a heavy fighter built by Dornier for Germany during World War II. The Pfeil's performance was predicted to be better than other twin-engine designs due to its unique push-pull configuration and the lower aerodynamic drag of the in-line alignment of the two engines. It was Nazi Germany's fastest piston-engined aircraft of World War II.[page needed] The Luftwaffe was desperate to get the design into operational use, but delays in engine deliveries meant that only a handful were delivered before the war ended.
Happy New Year Drew!
Happy new year everyone🎉
Drew basically said austria and Germany are the same.... This cannot be forgiven
Drew single handily angered every Austrian by comparing Vienna to Paris
Austrians hate vienna just like the french with paris
That's not true @@KartingRules ._.
@@KartingRules Much like Viennese hate everyone (including themselves) and let everyone know in a maybe not really polite, but courteous way...
as someone from Vienna I kinda have to agree and most people don’t like Vienna BUT Vienna also doesn’t like itself and the others 😂

Btw guys Denmark’s Queen Said that she will be leaving the Thrane in 2weeks (she Said it in her new years speech)

in australia, boxing day is in my opinion more celebrated than christmas, wanna know why? because people get to do all the drinking that we didnt do on christmas!
So you dont drink on christmas? Or just less? So less drinking is kind off not drinking? Because I never saw a australian drinking less while drinking.

Yes it's almost new year on this side of the Globe
10:45 - There were several South American countries that welcomed all sorts of immigrants around WW2. There were a lot of dissidents and refugees who escaped Nazi Germany during this time too and were not welcomed to other countries.

10:15 Alright, let's figure it out. The woman in the photo looks to be in her twenties (I think, I'm pretty bad at guessing people's ages), so for the sake of simplicity, let's assume she was born in 2000. When talking about history, there is one very convenient unit of time called a "grandfather" - it is the period of time between a grandfather telling his grandchildren "when I was your age" and the referenced events, and is defined as 50 years (in other words, WWI ended just a smidge over two grandfathers ago, William of Normandy conquered England about 49 grandfathers ago, and Julius Caesar was stabbed around 101 grandfathers ago). This gives us an approximate time when her grandfather was born - one grandfather before 2000, or 1950. Even if we assume that both she and her relevant parent were born late in their respective parents' lives, the reasonable assumption is that the earliest her grandfather would have been born is around 1930.
In conclusion, the implications about her grandfather are almost certainly hollow - if he were even alive at that point, he was probably more concerned about his toys than the political situation in Germany (and was probably born in Argentina, anyway).
Honestly, at this point, it's probably better to retire the whole "your grandfather was a Nazi" joke about Germans and Argentinians, because it's quite unlikely to be true for anyone born after 1980, and almost certainly not after 1990.
Coulda been a part of Hitler's Youth before the whole family packed and moved away
@@oooshafiqooo4722 That is certainly true, and I did consider that, but on the other hand, by the time I was 10, I had been in several different clubs, most of which I joined because of my parents' "suggestions", which largely didn't have much of an impact on me later on in life.
So while blaming an adult for the state of their nation, especially in a democracy (even a nominal one), is justifiable, I don't believe it's equally fair to lay the same accusations on a child.
@ i mean, adding more things up, how about the Urgroßvater? He is certainly a Nazi considering why they packed up and left
Stop ruining the joke
Yeah but it could definitely be her great-grandfather.
Regarding Christmas Celebrations: a common model in Germany is to celebrate on Christmas Eve (24th of December) within your household, the first day of Christmas (25th) with one side of your extended family and the second day of Christmas (26th) with the other side. So, 24th with your kids/parents, 25th at your parents'/grandparents' and 26th at your parents-in-law's/other grandparents'. (Obviously, the dates of parents' and -in-laws' are interchangable)
That's the best description of Vienna I ever heard!

To be fair, America, Portugal, Belgium, Netherlands and Mexico are offering precisely zero to the World Cup meme.
It's already new year in indonesia and i played the outro song and it hits the right beat when the clock is showing 00:00
The santa and stalin meme remind me of that skit where the kgb captured Santa and found out he was also communist.
Well, he DOES wear red ...
it’s kinda sad because Brazil might be getting removed from… a football place. not gonna say which one, you’re gonna have to look it up
Last day of 2023, I hope to see you all a year from now
I have a classmate who that came from Argentina and has German ancestry. And the worst part... I'm Israeli
Well, if you don't make sure your classmate's grandpa gets put in front of a court then no one will.
As a Dutch person myself, I never, ever, ever heard about "Saint Stephen".
I am sure the meme meant Sinterklaas (Saint Nicolas), which is then followed by the Christmas we all know and love.
Nee, ze bedoelen gewoon 2de Kerstdag. Ik heb ook nog nooit van Saint Stephan gehoord
Most English people too - but we all happily sing "good King Wenceslas looked out, on the feast of Stephen" as one of our Christmas carols 🤓
Petition for Drew to create the Roman Empire countryball plushie
Regarding the German-Argentinian girl: considering giving birth late per generation (around 35 years of age), her grandfather was ca. 10 ... 15 years old. So he was propably doing nothing. Considering giving birth a bit earlier (maybe mid 20s), her grandfather wasn't born yet. So today it is much more likelym that it was her great-grandfather, who actually experienced this era. You people have to adopt to the fact, that WW2 was a bit longer ago to actually work with 30 year old memes. Grandfathers, that were actually alive and at the right age to have actually been part of this, got pretty rare by now.
🤓
My mom’s side of the family does their Christmas party on Christmas Eve, and my dad’s side does their Christmas party on Christmas Day. So I stay up partying till 2AM, go to sleep, and then party till 2AM again. 😎
As being someone since 1990, it was dinner and presents on Christmas Eve and then leftovers and enjoy your gifts on Christmas Day.
"top gun but with santa's sleigh " 💀
9:48 And Australia used to have to play against a country in this region to get into the World Cup.
8:07 there’s something wrong with this.
Because if you translate Deutschland into English directly, it becomes Germanland.
And the Danish thing (exactly the same as Norwegian by the way) when translated into English translate to Germanland!
I think it was referring to the way it was spelled, not the meaning, but actually, as a danish person, i can confirm that tysk is just a danishification(?) (and norwegificication and swedification (i don't even know how to spell anymore) of deutsch, like dutch is an englishification(help) of the same word.
i'd say it's probably danification, norwegification, swedification, and anglification
@@Ronja_the_fairydutch is anglicisation of Deutch (german), but is used to call the Dutch😂
