  • This year has been the year of a certain brand of Moonwatch that met mass demand, and we all know there are other moonwatch homages out there. This is the first of a short series exploring few of those homages. Perhaps, you may identify one for yourself :-)

    I have the regular one on a leather band. I bought it to see how much I would like the this manual moonwatch before I actually buy the Omega. I have to say it's an incredible homage. So far mine is holding up well. I do not get it wet. I plan on purchasing the real thing within the next year. I'm taking the same approach with the Phylida Seamaster homage. I have one of those on order as well.

      Thanks for writing. Phylida Seamaster Homage is actually is the best homage that Phylida offers (we released a video on that one year ago), Smart move that you try a homage before spending money on the real one. The routine of having a manual winding experience is so unique and cannot be duplicated. About the water thing, even a Rolex with screw down crown is not immune to that, smart to stay away from water and not making a habit of it.

    Thanks for the review. I would swap the bracelet any way. This watch needs a President style bracelet.

    I have the Alpha 1993 version from Alpha - Europe.
    The Alpha uses the ST1903 movement, so it has a 24 hour subdial. I think that adds a bit more "functionality" than simply mirroring the hour hands that the Phylida does.
    The Alpha has a screw down crown and is rated on it's website as 5ATM. However, I doubt the water resistance ratings on a lot of these products, simply because I don't believe they actually pressure test any of these.
    I also like the "brand" name better. Alpha - Omega. They are both greek letters. I'm not sure what a Phylida is. The Phylida offers Sapphire where as the Alpha is merely Mineral Glass. So that's a win for the Phylida.
    If you simply can't afford a Speedy, or want to test drive one prior to laying out thousands, then these may fit your bill.
    Also, if you really want a cool movement, but aren't really into the Seagull 1963 looks, this one might fill your bill.

    Nice review. I have the Tin Tin Phylida myself .. though I'm sad to say the movement has just fallen to pieces. Not sure what that is due to, a shame as it looks great.
    By the way, I work at Roldorf & Co. in Gastown .. come on by and see me sometime Kwan, would be great to say Hi.

      Thanks for watching. I remember you have mentioned to me that your TinTin fell apart. In fact, I was suppose to mention about your experience in my monologue, somehow I forgot that in my writing. Hopefully, people read your comment here, it is just as effective. Will make a point to swing by Gaston to say hi.

    These 2 watches have the ST1902 movement. The subdial at 6h is a 12 hours indicator that redundantly indicates the time (hour). This is not the hour chronograph register or counter. That’s of no use. An ST1903 with a 24h indicator would have been a better choice. Could you please check If the minutes counter works properly when the watch is flipped dial downward? Some Phylida have an issue with the minutes register wheel jewel not inserted far enough.
    Lume is of poor quality especially on hands.
    ST19xx mouvements often break and fall apart because of the bad quality.

    • @walnawk
      @walnawk  Před rokem

      I flipped both timepiece downwards, tested both for more than 30 minutes, both minutes register ran good. No problem. But I do believe other people have bad luck with these models, another CZcamsr has informed me about the poor quality. Fortunately, mine are just cosmetic issues, but they shouldn't even be there in its first place.

      I own a number of watches with this movement in them. I've always been concerned about their quality and longevity. I wear mine very infrequently and they are all working properly for now. I did learn something from your post. I didn't know there were different versions of this movement. Is the ST1903 a more expensive movement, is it why they don't use them instead.

    • @walnawk
      @walnawk  Před rokem +1

      @@sinjinadams2862 Seagull replaced 1902 with 1903, they are same movement with 24 hour time at the 6:00 sub-dial rather than 12hr display.

    Great review. I'm from Belgium, so I feel almost obligated to buy the Tintin version of this watch That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Hergé and I were born in the same suburb of Brussels, albeit many, many moons apart. It seems like Phylida watched your video because judging by the pictures they changed the end link to a female version. That's a good thing because it means that this won't actually look like I'm wearing a dinner plate on my girly 6.25" wrist. I do worry that this bracelet is the same as the one on the Pagani Design "Speedmaster" though, in that is much too long and even with all the removable links taken out, it'll only fit wrists larger than mine. Would you happen to have an idea what the smallest wrist is that this bracelet will fit? Thanks!

    • @walnawk
      @walnawk  Před rokem +1

      My wrist is 5.75" and both bracelets (male and female) fit me well. They provided plenty of removable links to fit all wrists. Pagani Design "Speedy" bracelet is just a bad mistake/oversight.
