I love how they handled symbiote lore in this; Agent Venom, classic black suit, Anti Venom, Scream, Venom’s wings and the spiral designs, etc. just awesome how they incorporated so many aspects of the symbiote’s history in this game

It was probably also kind of a nod to the green goblin, like when they're planning the attack and within the winged venom section of the fight, he starts throwing goblin-like projectiles lol

I agree about norman flipping too easily I think they should have killed off harry but have norman witness spider-man dishing the final blow that I would have been more understanding of
That was actually my theory, but I think the writers wanted to advert expectations since everyone pretty much thought Harry was gonna die. So we ended up with him alive and people thinking it feels forced, which I can definitely see
Straight up, Harry had to actually die for Norman to lose it and set in motion the Green Goblin arc, because yeah while he is technically brain dead it's clear it was not Spider-Man's fault. Now if he had actually died, it would've been easy to assume the Spider-Men killed him justifying his hatred against them.
Killing of Harry wouldve been dumb tbh we just had May die and then Phin I don't think every game needs to kill off a key character to have a satisfying ending
@Megamarod idea is that he's projecting the blame he has on himself for using the symbiote to fix Harry. He's clearly projecting thats why when he's alone he starts breaking things

One of the under Appreciated aspects of the story is how they handled Martin Li and his redemption arc with Peter and Miles. He was incredibly regretful with what he did and even tho Miles could never forgive him, Miles did forgive him by letting go of the past and moving forward and allowing Li to make amends in his own way. It was a beautiful moment it had me tearing up
One of my only complaints about the game is how once you beat the story you don’t have the option to choose what color the symbiote is, and you can’t change which parry you have. (Ex. Switch from Iron Arms parry to Black Symbiote parry or Black Symbiote Parry to Anti-Venom symbiote Parry.
Wait even if you wear the black suit the powers are still white? If so that’s kinda stupid.

Exactly, in my opinion insomniacs customization as a whole in this game was just lazy. There should be 3 main types of modes, a web based parry for peter/web jump/web jump **For those who don't want to use the arms** the black symbiote abilities parry, traversal and then the Anti venom stuff. Instead for some reason they literally give you the symbiote at the end of the game as a skin but you can never use symbiote punch AGAIN??
I’m sure the Symbiot punch is still available at the end of the game if you switch the abilities it should be there
One thing i kinda don’t like is how you have to go into a menu & equip the symbiote as a suit.
With two buttons left open on the d-pad, it would’ve been cool to be able to go in & out of the symbiote like web of shadows. Then getting diff more aggressive animations for swinging & combat

Agreed, to be honest the symbiote left me feeling a bit disappointed on how outside of the fun new abilities there was nothing really different about it outside of that. And the Anti-Plot armor just made the first symbiote feel even less unique imo.
Yeah 100% agree with this, when I got the suit I thought they were going to let you switch between it with up on the d-pad because with miles that lets you go invisible but with Peter that button does nothing.
@@ForeverEliite I was SOOO dissappointed when he got the Anti Venom suit. Once Peter lost the black suit, that should've been it. The entire point is that you're supposed to miss all that power but realize that it came at an unbearable cost.
Kraven shocked me I honestly never liked Kraven or saw him as a threat but like seeing half the rogues gallery dead because he killed them It had me a little scared of him and I respect his character a lot more after playing this game I loved his death scene i'm so glad they had venom bite his head off and showed a little blood i didn't expect it I thought they'd cut away and we'd hear it on the news
They did such an excellent job with Kraven. He was an absolute beast in this game and they established him as a threat extremely well. And the way he was used in his final moments to establish Venom as even greater threat made that Venom introduction even crazier because we already know how dangerous Kraven is and the fact that Venom doesn’t just knock him out he straight up kills him makes venom seem even more terrifying. And that head bite really caught me off guard. Especially considering that this is a T rated super hero game that kids are gonna play. They really pushed it with that scene and I’m really happy they did.
I liked Kraven, but I didn’t love him. In my opinion, they blew their load with him way too early. Kraven’s most famous and one of his only memorable appearances was in Kraven’s Last Hunt.
But they really only borrowed the name for him in this one. And I like what they were going for, but in the comic…he goes insane after losing to Spider-man so much. One day, Peter has a cold while crime fighting and Kraven is able to get the upper hand and “kill” him. For a few issues, he takes over as Spider-man to prove that he can be a better spider-man. Once he’s satisfied with his success, he goes home and blows his brains out. Now I’m not saying we needed that last part…but imo, Kraven’s full potential can never be realized in a first installment because he’s a villain that needs to be fed up with Spider-man in order to function narratively.
What they did was good enough and he was plenty threatening…but it’s a shame we can’t get a proper Last Hunt storyline. He was basically only in the story so that the game could set up Venom in the background without rushing the symbiote’s development…which works…but ruins the potential for what is one of the definitive Spider-man story arcs
@@jeffbezos3200 I wouldn’t really call Kraven last hunt one of Spider-Man’s definitive story arcs. Not many people really know about it and it’s never been adapted in anyway. And Spider-Man technically isn’t even the main character of that arc it’s Kraven. It’s Kravens definitive story arc not Spider-Man’s.
Definitely one of the stars of the game!!!
@@superadambomb5834 I mean, fair. But they did close the door on that. And most Spider-man fans aren’t familiar with anything that wasn’t in a movie. Of those, a small subset is also familiar with the cartoon, and of an even smaller group are people that actually read the comics. Certainly “The Death of Superman” is the most famous storylines for him, but I think most comic fans would agree that “All Star Superman” is one of his definitive storylines despite the fact that the average Joe has never heard of it.
Same situation with Kraven’s Last Hunt. If you’re a fan of the comics, you know about that story arc. It’s one of the most praised storylines in Spider-man’s history. It’s absolutely a Spider-man story because it’s about a villain beating him and burying him alive
My jaw dropped when MJ transformed into Scream... Was not expecting that but it was a good addition.

I personally believe why Miles solves most of his problems in comparison to Peter is because Peter lost a lot more than Miles. Not to invalidate Miles’ tragedy, but Peter lost both of his parents, then both his uncle and aunt, which he blames himself for. So makes a lot more sense why Peter would succumb to the Symbiot, who has been hardened but Miles who is a little new and has way more Hope would bring Peter back in. I feel that Peter was reminded who he was through miles. I do think they could’ve emphasize that more though.

With Norman, I think he’s blinded by the drive to save his son. When you play as Venom, you’re literally k*lling dudes, and Norman talks to Harry like “everything will be okay don’t go”. I think it makes sense he irrationally displaces his anger onto the Spider-Men rather than accept responsibility or blame Harry. I think this anger and frustration will motivate his eventual turn to green goblin. He’ll invent the G serum, Miles or Pete will get involved and stop him somehow, then boom Green Goblin Rio dies probably and screwball returns
G serum is already established in this universe
Miles' plot armor exceeds beyond Peters Plot armor. I swear though, im not sure if its 100% but it feels like Miles has never lost a fight the entire time. He went toe to toe with black suit enraged Peter even though he eas worn out by Kraven, but even then plot would have him be toe to toe since he held his own very well against Venom.
You can just tell hes being preped to take over completely and idk how i feel about it.

@@CalebCheekThe gap is Miles is stronger than Peter. His powers are a direct symbiot weakness. It's not plot armor. He lost against kraven. But symbiotes don't stand a chance against Miles.
@@WhatsBiggin sorry I just meant the experience gap. Miles is clearly stronger than Peter even with the symbitote but Peter was the one who could actually beat kraven. Miles just doesn’t have the same experience fighting big threats yet like Peter does, but besides experience it’s not even close when comparing. He’s even better at managing his problems and is always bailing Peter out and saving him many many times
I think miles should be miles and Peter stays Peter they don’t need to keep trying to shove miles into peters shoes all the time, Peter still has a lot left in the tank and I am also frustrated how much Peter loses knowing how long he’s been doing this and miles doesn’t lose any fights which kinda bugs me a tad and I love this iteration of miles too
I honestly was hoping that Peter would be able to give Harry the anti venom suit as a replacement to keep him alive without the negatives. It blew my mind when they didn’t do that it just seemed obvious in my mind.
I thought that Martin Lee gave his power specifically to Peter, so if he gave the suit to Harry it would just turn back to the regular Symbiote
@@Archivist42li did give it to Peter to heal the other symbiote symptoms but if li fixed the symbiotic and him along with it you would think he could transfer that to Harry like Harry did to Peter.

I don't think the anti venom suit has any healing effects. The black suit always healed peter withing seconds of taking damage, even breaking his arm in the lizard fight but both him and the suit look pretty beaten up after the venom fight. I think it has something to do with Venom being a living, thinking organism but anti venom just being handled as an empty shell with the powers but not the thoughts.

This game probably had my favorite version of harry. He was very supportive,he wasnt jealous or constantly angry about peter dating mj lol. Iv seen alot of people complain about certain things in the story cause it wasn't done in the comics even tho this is insomniacs own universe
I wish the symbiote making Peter darker was more gradual, he kinda just became an asshole like right away. Like chucking that civilian after chasing the Lizard, being a dick to Miles, MJ, not giving the symbiote back to Harry even though he knows he's dying without it. It didn't seem very believable to me.
But the scene where Peter is dying and gets the symbiote was so good. So emotional.

It takes both Peter and Miles multiple combos, venom strikes, gadgets to take out symbiots and KRaven's goons IN DROVES. Meanwhile MJ is running around one-shoting people and taking bullets to the face. Bro, no kind of karate will do that, she's a mid 20s woman with a desk job ffs.
Ok yes she is definitely a bit over powered but she wasn’t just tanking bullets. If she got hit once she died.

Same thing also happens when Spider-man goes crazy near May's house, she just tanks bullets to her face. And when fighting the symbiote behemoth she survives being slammed by his massive tentacle. The fact that she survives the symbiote lair is already fucking beyond suspension of disbelief. Remember that Spider-man got taken down by a single stab from Kraven, and the stab wasn't even supposed to be lethal, definitely not to Spider-man who survived getting impaled by Ock's tentacle into his shoulder where a huge arteries and blood vessels are clustered together with his heart being only inches away. Also if MJ's taser is so lethal that it can take down literally EVERY non-boss enemy in the game in a single hit, why can't Spider-man adapt it into his web-shooters considering that he already had electric webs, how come Miles' venom blast can't one shot enemies?
The worst thing about this is that it makes REALLY hard to take any of Spidey's enemies seriously, because none of them can seem to even beat a single mid 20s woman with a desk job, so how are they supposed to be a threat to fucking Spider-man? MJ must have some sort of mind numbing pheromone superpower, because when she's around enemies just turn fucking retarded and start missing point blank shots and forget all of their elite mercenary training, while when Peter is alone they are fine and are an actual threat to him, they also have perfect aim and unless he uses his Spider-sense and amazing agility to dodge, they will ALWAYS hit him.
16:25 Cletus Kassidy explained this himself the moment he got his hands on the second symbiote while Peter was pinned under the train. It was transported out of the city for safekeeping(obviously in case something happens at Oscorp to cause them to lose the first symbiote) when the Demons attacked the city in the first game. So it wasn’t readily available. That’s likely *why* it was being transported back into the city during the “The Flame” sidequests: Because they needed to give it to Harry after he lost the first one.
That’s the best unbiased interview especially someone not versed in the comics and knowledgeable on the lore. Great review man! That best you could’ve done with the knowledge you had and it was an honest review.
I'm glad they didn't try and throw some random twist and indeed ended up with Harry Osborn as venom. If only just because That is what the prior two games were hinting at, and there was an organic dynamic between how that would develop and a reason that the both of them became so attached to the symbiote suit, Harry literally feeling like he needed it to survive and Peter being attached to it while it really began to form its own personality which starts to warp Peter's personality and make him want to hold on to the power
I know we've seen this story done to death at this point but I feel like they managed to capture the essence and point of that story while also having a unique spin on it that works. Part of me was kind of fearing that maybe they were going to turn Jraven into venom but I'm glad they didn't, they kept him as his own awesome version of that character and having venom be the one to put him down was awesome too
I'm not super sold on who they're setting up to be carnage, I feel like that one they could have probably just kept more accurate to the comics but whatever I'm still down to see what they do with it.
But I'm less excited about the prospect of introducing a third spider superhero into the next game. I like the way they write miles, they have made me enjoy this character more than I did before. However much of the charm of so many of these Spider-Man stories boils down to a lot of the relatability of Peter Parker and his personal struggles. They did a decent job balancing two different characters in this story but I feel like trying to throw a third in is going to make it really hard to have that personal touch and connection with any of them.
Either way, I think storytelling is still the strong suit of this game, general gameplay right underneath even if this one is still a bit inconsistent with quality and apparently their day one patch caused all these bugs
I am still walking away from this game incredibly happy and excited for their next projects
I think the carnage symbiote being shipped out could also work to getting Eddie Brock the Venom symbiote or a piece of it.
I really wanted to fight actual Mysterio and not just his assistance using his tech I feel they could have done more with quinten. I also really wanted them to follow up on the carnage thing I feel like that's where the dlc story would head. also I really want a Doctor Strange game after that black cat sequence
Pretty sure he’ll be back in the DLC
The DLC will pretty much feature the Chameleon, Mysterio and Carnage
We will likely have some sort of a closure for Wraith as well
And Silk will probably get a proper introduction
The thing about the Norman Osborn stuff is that it’s never really discussed if Norman even really liked spiderman before at all. It seemed to me like in the scene where Norman asks Peter to save Harry, he does it begrudgingly. So it makes sense to me for him to switch so quick because spiderman can save so many people, but can’t save who Norman actually cares about.
I think one of the reasons Norman flips is that he knows the symbiote was transferred to Spider-Man from Harry, and as far as he knows, SM just refuses to hand it back, hence Harry gets sick again. He is not mad just about the ending of the main story, but also for the reason it had to happen in the first place.
Finally, someone who isn’t afraid to just slightly criticize how they’re setting up miles lol

Seems like people just want Miles to only feel useful for helping others and not wanting to see him grow up and handle serious and dangerous situations on his own and want him to be weak like him beating symbiote Peter was a disappointment to some people because he is inexperienced spider man that should lose to Peter. Miles has 1 year of experience and he was training with Peter
Miles was too important. Peter was kinda useless and won all his fights w symbiote suits. Without them he doesnt do much.
I think the decisions they made for the story is fine, I just felt like the pacing in the third act was all over the place. Peter "retiring' feels a bit unwarranted and was not set up properly throughout this game tbh. MJ was great and I think Miles' story was really great. The invasion imo should have lasted at least 10-15 missions. It doesn't really feel like a struggle for the city. I know there were plenty of enemies but compare it to the outbreak in 2018's game or even the invasion in Web of Shadows. This one pales in comparison.
Nah him retiring was mentioned a ton throughout the story. Not having time with MJ, for harry, feeling old.

I just platinumed this game! My first ever platinum. I usually only care about the main story as i get bored by side stuff and collectables, but in this game it was fun to do everything the game had to offer and i felt the urge to get the platinum trophy.
My reaction to playing as Venom was sooo goofy and little childish but, man I was sooo excited and happy. It's been a long time since a game made me feel that way. Then they went and did the wings from The King In Black and I lost it. I paused the game a few times during the last few chapters and asked myself "is this really happening" lol
I really feel like the press Square to attack screengrab when the camera pans behind venom is one of the biggest moments in gaming history for superhero games. That was epic

With the Norman thing I feel like it makes sense that he switched. You have to remember he is also influenced by the symbiote and very broken from having lost his wife and having to put his son into a tank for 2 years to try to save him. Also even after seeing Venom close up he told his guards and Spider-Man not to hurt him. Like anyone can see that ain’t Harry anymore

@@CalebCheek From the flashback we can see a younger Norman merging with the symbiote right after it crashed to Earth. He probably put it in containment for years and then wore it for 5 minutes to transfer it to Harry.
The biggest issue I have with this games plot is that the writers blatantly make Miles one up Peter in almost every aspect, from power scaling, abilities to handling their emotions better etc. Peter is supposed to be the more experienced Spider-Man since he has been doing it for almost a decade now, he has fought way more villains which should make him a more competent and expert fighter and has gone through way more loss and trauma which should indicate that Peter should have already accepted things like loss and sacrifice without completely losing control of his emotions. It’s pretty obvious that the writers clearly only wanted Miles to be Spider-Man and if the ending means that Peter is retiring and Cindy Moon is gonna be the other Spider-Man then I’m not on board with whatever the next games plot is gonna be. Plus Otto and Norman both have beef with Peter, they don’t care or even know about Miles or Cindy so what are they even gonna do with the next games plot? Them fighting Miles and Cindy in the next game isn’t gonna making any sense and have no emotional impact behind it.

Personally, I think the whole point is not so much to downplay Peter, but to show what happens when you have a support system.
Peter was fighting by himself enduring loss after loss, sacrificing everything about himself to do the job. Then suddenly he’s not alone.
Miles has his friends and family, as well as Peter himself, helping him along the way.
Building up miles so Peter can finally take a break really resonated with me. It’s the whole point of miles’ “trilogy” if you will about him becoming Spider-Man. Now in part three he will probably have to mentor silk, and Peter will have to come out of retirement because between doc ock, goblin, and carnage, no one will stop that alone.
I think it’s easy to forget that a lot of villains Peter beat completely alone, and he stopped the sinister six completely alone.
He’s earned a break.
Maybe otto green goblin and carnage are going to team up and kill peter
@@kennethhernandez9243Yeah it didn’t feel like the game was downgrading Peter. The story and gameplay gave both equal treatment. Peter gets the suit(black and antivenom) and Miles has the lightning. However I do hope Peter doesn’t die in the next game(that way we can enjoy the free roam at the end of the game) but if he does die, it should be a massive awesome Iron Giant heroic sacrifice.
Exactly he defeated all of these villains alone and now insomniac is making Peter lose almost every fight he’s in and it even starts in the first game too which silver sable getting the drop on Peter like fr this woman really just kicked this super human that can lift a whole bus? I don’t like how they do that and his spider sense in cutscenes in nonexistent as well
Game overall is a 10/10 for me. I wish it was a little bit longer but im still happy with it overall.

Given that Harry is still alive technically I wonder if we end up with 2 goblins in game 3? Not sure how that one plays out yet. But thats also at least 3 years away at the minimum.

Don't Buy This Game people
so many issues in it:
- Spanish language completely butchered for "inclusion"
- ESG company blackrock has 7% of sony stocks and it shows its influence
- performative pandering that they can't even get right
- like the flag in Mile's room or taiyaki stand that can't even figure out Taiyaki isn't a pretzel
- Mary Jowl face and androgynous body type cause femininity is seen as bad these days
- Peter Parker emasculated constantly to push up Miles and Mary Jowl
- Miles literally has no reason to exist
- All they do with miles is remove Peter's agency in his own story, - Peter gets beat up then Miles saves him to show he's "important" when really its just devaluing Peter's ability to make miles look better
- MJ stealth sections ridiculously overpowered to make her sections seem good when really its laughable
- Black cat doesn't get missions, neither does wraith as playable but time for terrible MJ sections
- Black cat retcon to bi and having a gf so the entire time she's manipulating Peter and causing stress in his home life for no good reason, also devaluing her care to her supposed GF they made up just now, legitimately makes her a terrible character now
- Kraven and venom wasted to push more time to ESG and social politics
- Mile's side missions are mediocre from helping someone ask someone out for prom to graffiti art, one is with two gay guys and the other with a deaf girl cause "inclusion over storytelling" and its so telling
- fight club girl beating up a guy twice her size while he begs, just misandry in a nutshell
- museum mission only there to say the funding gets taken away by EVIL WHITE GUY BUSINESS OWNER cause that's all they always do white = bad always to these writers
and of course Scream fight of Peter being emasculated, insulted, while he begs for forgiveness from his "queen" (second sony game to emphasize that idea, other was GoW Ragnarok Freya speech) and she saves HERSELF cause she's a STRONG FEMALE CHARACTER

It shows up here and there but it doesn’t change the fun gameplay and story. I guess they tried pandering to both sides. You know it’s gonna happen nowadays regardless.
So since this is a spoiler discussion, I guess it's ok to speculate on the next game. The G Serum is now in play, so will we see just 1 goblin? Or are we gonna see both the ultimate Goblin and green goblin at the same time? Chameleon and Spiderman 2099 were both mentioned and quite possibly set up to show up next game. The carnage origin is already in play but yet to show up in full form. Willing to bet we get multiversal game play next time. What ya think?
I would love to see both Harry and Norman as goblins. I know insomniac is waiting on fan feedback to make a venom spin off so if they do that I could see carnage being the main villain. I definitely think they’ll lean into spider/multiverse things more, we got a tease of that in the black cat mission and the spider-bot plot. I just really hope they don’t kill off/retire Peter for good

Dear insomniac, please get rid of the mj stealth missions. How is a regular ass person sneaking past, taking out, and shrugging off attacks from trained killers and symbiotes and keep in mind mj was only in symkaria for a like a few weeks. The only mj section i liked was when you were in the tunnel (and realistically speaking, mj should have been caught)
I love how they did bring a little bit of what happened in web of shadows plus i think they kept Harry alive for the 3rd game

I will say I like how they handle some of the crazy moments in this with it remind me of Web of Shadow and other Spider Man games like good old times overall with some interesting set up at the end and during it for a possible third game down the line if they want to make one in there
Norman flipping confused me until i remembered(because I was wearing a different costume) Peter is still wearing a symbiote suit, Norman sees it wondering how did all the symbiotes die yet spiderman still has one, leading him to think Spiderman stole the symbiote off of Harry
The biggest issue with MJ in this game is the model. She's just way less attractive, and somehow Scream made her look infinitely better lol. Also, she had Carnage in one of the animated series, so it isn't that big of an issue they gave her a symbiote. I just wish she got to keep it or at least runs into a sliver of Scream further down the line and learns to control it.
I'm actualy cool with Venom being the "parry this" character. He's always gone that slower but with sheer power route unlike Spidey, so having a reliance on the parry system as opposed to being as agile and dodge focused as Pete or Miles makes for a good dynamic
DONT BUY SPIDERMAN 2, its very apparent the push they did in things the irony of Scream being hotter is that its fine for attractiveness when its a "evil character" to these writers and their politics, that's deliberate
so many issues in it:
- Spanish language completely butchered for "inclusion"
- ESG company blackrock has 7% of sony stocks and it shows its influence
- performative pandering that they can't even get right
- like the flag in Mile's room or taiyaki stand that can't even figure out Taiyaki isn't a pretzel
- Mary Jowl face and androgynous body type cause femininity is seen as bad these days
- Peter Parker emasculated constantly to push up Miles and Mary Jowl
- Miles literally has no reason to exist
- All they do with miles is remove Peter's agency in his own story, - Peter gets beat up then Miles saves him to show he's "important" when really its just devaluing Peter's ability to make miles look better
- MJ stealth sections ridiculously overpowered to make her sections seem good when really its laughable
- Black cat doesn't get missions, neither does wraith as playable but time for terrible MJ sections
- Black cat retcon to bi and having a gf so the entire time she's manipulating Peter and causing stress in his home life for no good reason, also devaluing her care to her supposed GF they made up just now, legitimately makes her a terrible character now
- Kraven and venom wasted to push more time to ESG and social politics
- Mile's side missions are mediocre from helping someone ask someone out for prom to graffiti art, one is with two gay guys and the other with a deaf girl cause "inclusion over storytelling" and its so telling
- fight club girl beating up a guy twice her size while he begs, just misandry in a nutshell
- museum mission only there to say the funding gets taken away by EVIL WHITE GUY BUSINESS OWNER cause that's all they always do white = bad always to these writers
and of course Scream fight of Peter being emasculated, insulted, while he begs for forgiveness from his "queen" (second sony game to emphasize that idea, other was GoW Ragnarok Freya speech) and she saves HERSELF cause she's a STRONG FEMALE CHARACTER

To be honest I liked the campaign of the first game better. All this Venom stuff didn’t really work for me it felt overkill with like the whole city being overridden by the symbiotes. I preferred fighting the Sinister Six even if outside of Ock and Li they were underdeveloped. I’m not very knowledgeable on Venom in the comics really at all so maybe this game was like a dream come true for readers of the story but to me it just felt like overkill, glad for the ppl that did enjoy it a ton tho. I also wasn’t a fan of the ending getting rid of Parker basically and then teasing an Ock return which doesn’t make any sense given all of his history is with Peter not Miles but I’d be very disappointed if Peter wasn’t the main man again in Spider Man 3

I completely & utterly understand why you didn’t like it, I respect it because I prefer a more grounded Spider-Man in a sense I think thats what you meant with the sinister six. I like both ways but trust me trying to gain knowledge on the symbiote and know why things happened and the lore will make the experience believable and way more immersive. I see why you weren’t sold but If I was completely in your shoes I would try to see it from a different point of a view and learn why things transpired with the symbiotes!

@@tjperkins7750 dude, I didn’t even expect them to go that route with the symbiotes. I was truly impressed and dumbfounded to have experienced such a masterpiece of a story. The dialogue between characters was realistic and was palpable. The game isn’t perfect, nothing is perfect but it deserves a 9.5 or arguably GOTY! I didn’t even read the comics necessarily but I gained knowledge about the lore through different mediums.
I watched the spectacular Spiderman TV series and played the games, that made me draw certain adaptations of future looks of the characters. I think consuming from different source material and having an open mind made me appreciate this game so much more.
Even if I wasn’t well educated on the lore, If I played the game for the first time, I would’ve been captivated because it tells a human story and the dialogue it just really captures how humans interact with the world and circumstances!

@@KravenZoro FACTS BRO, I’ve read some of the comics and I just really grew up with these characters so when I seen the route that they were going my jaw dropped because in digital media no one would ever do this and insomniac nailed it. If anything this just made me respect insomniac even more because they knew that this would be a VERY BOLD story to tell, and that some people just are used to the simple stories for venom, but they just showed that they are really deep in the storytelling. My rating for this game is like a 9.8 I want to say 10 soo bad but like u said nothing is really ever perfect, but this is by far the best Spider-Man game

I see it this way that miles morales gets another game in which silk is introduced and as Peter is retired there will be a post credit for Spider-Man 3 showing something about goblin and because of that Peter will have to get out of retirement that will lead him and miles together in the 3rd game if it happens
I think Silk will be more like wraith as like a buddy for missions. Venom would be the only character I see being a third playable

I’m gonna guess that a Venom game won’t happen considering he gets destroyed in the final mission, and that Carnage is being set up for a DLC inspired by Maximum Carnage, with Peter and Yuri being the main focus, maybe having it as a dual release, with another DLC focusing on Miles and Cindy dealing with the fact that their parents are together and that both of them have Spider-Powers. Maybe the villains for their DLC are Speed Demon, Big Wheel and Hydro Man, as they don’t pose that much of a threat to the city, and it would be a fun enough story for Miles and Cindy to bond considering they’re gonna be step-siblings in this universe, and all of it could kick off because the original villains return from prison and don’t like that Coney Island were using them for marketing, so they form a sort of Superior Foes Of Spider-Man team. I think it’s better than getting another game in between again, Silk being playable would get everyone used to her playstyle before the last game, and it also lets the Insomniac team have more time on the Wolverine game. The juxtaposition would be nice with the DLC too, with Peter and Yuri having a much darker story, whereas Miles and Cindy have a much more light-hearted story. I’d imagine Chameleon will be in Spider-Man 3, and will be hired by Norman to take his place when he’s Green Goblin, trying to take revenge for Harry, and also to impersonate Peter, Miles and Cindy in an attempt to ruin their lives. Dr Morgan Michaels could also return and be in the game, helping to work on another cure for Harry, taking pages from Connors’ book, using animal DNA and testing it on himself, turning him into a vampire, therefore we get Morbius too. We could also get Starling in the game too, as Vulture was killed by Kraven, and maybe she thinks Peter, Miles and Cindy were responsible for it instead. Maybe we can introduce Janice Lincoln’s Beetle, have her be a small time criminal that Cindy is trying to stop, not knowing it’s Tombstone’s daughter, and that she’s only doing what she’s doing as Coney Island is going under after the attack in the DLC and Tombstone is out of a job. Maybe we can introduce Lady Octopus as Otto’s “Final Chapter”, someone who is deeply fascinated with Otto’s work, and is brainwashed by the neural link into trying to kill Norman. Otto’s voice would be taunting Norman in his head, and we could get flashbacks to Norman and Otto working together. Clearly Martin Li’s story isn’t done, maybe he finds a way to come back to FEAST and help the community as a way of atoning for his sins. I don’t think Peter will die or anything, he will live and have a child with MJ. There’s a lot they could do with the story, and I’m excited to see where it goes.
As a huge fan of the the Lethal Protector comic and the symbiotes in general I enjoyed MJ as Scream.
One thing i don't get is why didn't Peter just transferred Anti-Venom to Harry? Seemed like the obvious solution to make him healthy without him being a threat.
If they do a big time 15 hour dlc should have chameleon and carnage as the main villains, cause trying to fit carnage into the Spider-Man 3 would be way too packed and having him show up earlier helps. Especially if they go the red goblin route as a final boss
My problem is this, the ending doesnt make much sense, i loved the game i loved the pacing i loved the venom part, harry should have died it was very disneyish to some how bring him back to life. It also makes normans villian arc make sense. He wanted them to remove harry from the symbiote why tf is he mad at them?!
I feel like they’re going to listen to the fans and they will kill him off in the beginning of 3. That will push him over the edge.

I have a lot of complaints about the dynamic of the fight with Peter and Miles but here’s the main one. Miles beating Peter is unrealistic at least for rn. We should have played as peter overpowering miles to show him there’s levels to this and a clear gap in raw power and experience. Miles is too inexperienced to be able to fight head on with peter especially when the symbiote is in the picture. I get they’re trying to make him become his own Spider-Man but this is not the way to do it. Recently Miles had to save peter in too many scenarios. Having more abilities shouldn’t make him the better spider. Peter has way too much experience as Spider-Man to be defeated by miles rn. Give it a few years and then it makes more sense. Hes only been Spider-Man for almost a year. That’s poor writing to me.
They kind of made miles the mcguffin of the plot tbh. I mean he fights venom 1v1 and handles him pretty well. He also resolves some major plot points too. Honestly it feels like Peter Parker is being forced out of his role as Spider-Man due to Miles spike in popularity. Peter Parker is my favorite spidey and I hope he comes out of retirement in the sequel.
Peter was already tired from fighting Kraven and Miles had to use the bell to keep up. He doesn’t even win the fight, it just ends when Peter removes the symbiote.

I personally think a lot of mechanics in this game could be used to make a great Fantastic Four game. The gliding could easily translate to flying as the Torch, the Symbiote tendrils can be adjusted and reskinned as Mr. Fantastic. The Venom gameplay could easily be toned down a little in terms of mobility to make the Thing. And if you replace Miles’s lightning with force fields he becomes the Invisible Woman. They have the bones to build an incredible FF game
Heres an idea, Instead of the symbiote invasion we could go with the 5 children of venom storyline somewhat,of course MJ as scream,JJJ as riot,Hailey as agony,Ganke as Phage,Maaybe Uncle Aaron as lasher

I agree with you on it being too reliant on the parrying system. I truly wish that they go deeper with the combat in the third game and make it even way more challenging for the veterans and obviously you have options for less challenging if you just care about the storyline. I think they striked a balance between challenging and storytelling. It was challenging but for me it was a quick adjustment. They felt threatening but they could’ve had a deeper combat for different ways to fight and evade danger! And I wish there were more patterns in the bosses attacks for the player to learn and adapt to!

As far as I know(and I’m not well versed in the comics either, but I tried looking it up) he was never the leader of a cult called “The Flame”, and they never called him “Cletus Kassidy” until the end, so there was literally no way to know.
14:48 Actually, I don’t think Norman heard that part. Connors said that to Spider-Man, not Norman, and he said it *quietly* while Norman was across the room. That said, I agree that it was dumb for Norman to suddenly hate Spider-Man after doing exactly what Norman asked him to do: save Harry. He saved him. It’s not his fault that he went into a coma afterwards.

When it comes to Harry, he flip flops. If Harry is out of the picture, he dislikes him. If he needs Harry to be saved, he's begging him to rescue Harry, then when Harry is in a coma, who does he immediately blame? It's just whats more convenient for him at the moment.
It is funny you mention Miles did everything because about halfway through the game before Miles gets kidnapped by Kraven I was complaining that he did nothing at all. There was a segment of about 3 hours of main missions where you play only as Peter but with like a 5 minute break to go to Jefferson's grave as Miles then straight back to Peter doing tons of insane shit. I was telling my friends like why did they market the game as a Spider-Man team up game when you only play as Peter for most of the story? Miles did start doing a lot in the 3rd act though.
I love Miles as a black man, Miles will always be the best however i agree with you. He's gotten way too powerful. I get it though since his powers more tech based but his powers are getting ridiculious now. I didn't really like Peter "retiring" however since i know he's gonna come back in the next game i didn't mind it much.
Miles powers are thay way only cuz of the Spider that bit him in No0rmans lab, It had bio powers with it, people miss this detail from Spiderman 2018, as awell as camoflauge. Go back to the scene with MJ looking at the spiders and it tells you the powers each spider has

I think the flip switch for norman with the spidermen makes a whole lot of sense actually, and its not (just) because harry is his son. Ignoring the comics and sticking only to Spider-Man one, miles morales, and this game, we see a clear pattern of norman never taking responsibility for the things he's done. Mr. Negative, Otto, and Harry were all harmed because of Norman ignoring ethics and warnings and using his money and power irresponsibily. But unlike peter, he will never own it. It's far easier to blame the Spider-Men for Harry's fate and it sets him up to become green goblin (and perhaps turn harry into hobgoblin).

I thought it came very abruptly, and since MJ doesn’t really have any character arc in this game, and doesn’t really go through any character development unlike in the previous game, the Scream part really felt out of place
I also felt it was kinda strange how freakishly strong Venom is even though his host is a dying weak man, but that’s not a huge deal
At the end of the day, I totally understand why Insomniac went for a Harry Venom, but it still feels a bit weird
Having a Kraven Venom would have been less impactful on the emotional spectrum, but it would have made much more sens, and would also have been much scarier
Maybe it is just me, but during all the Venom bits, I couldn’t help but to see Harry’s baby face behind the teeths, and it made the character less frightening

I think the symbiote affects the host when the host starts tapping into its power. Harry went berserk on Kraven when peter was dying. I think if Peter had survived the stab without the symbiote, Harry wouldve changed at that point.

I kind of want a Daredevil game he is like my second favorite Marvel hero but I see some issues with the idea and understand why they probably won't do it. Basically he would be closer to Batman from the Arkham games in that melee ground combat would be his primary option but he doesn't have as many gadgets. So you would have way fewer cool abilities to map to buttons. He is based in New York so there would not be much new open world content to do. As well traversal would be a problem to get right as he would be like Batman with only a grappling hook and we saw how shitty that was in Gotham Knights before you unlock the unique traversal for each character. Spider-Man has very unique way of traversal in webswinging that has led to many fun open world games. I don't think there has ever been an open world Daredevil game like that. I hope someday someone figures out a way to make it work though.
Love your analysis! I have one thing I disagree with, Norman hating spider man makes sense. Norman is the one who introduced Venom to his son as a cure, and him being absolutely immature and unhinged, doesn’t want to admit that he has any culpability in this entire situation and what’s happening to his son. So, he irrationally blames spider man on his son being hurt. It shows his immaturity and egotistical mind. That’s just my opinion, totally loved the video 👏

Carnage will most likely be the main vilain in the futur DLC or spin off, but the Chameleon will probably be a part of it as well
And there is something absolutely no one mentioned, to the point I start doubting myself, but it seems like the Chameleon took Albert Moon’s appearance, as we can see at the end of hid side quest

Miles solving almost every problem makes sense. Peter was doing the same thing at his age and with the advanced training of an already existing Spider-Man improves his skills. The venom powers help too.

What about antivenom? Feels like they don’t even mention Peter still has a symbiote and doesn’t really seem that bothered by it. That’s also something that hasn’t happened in the comics as far as I’m aware.
You might've missed it, but there's dialogue with MJ and Peter discussing that antivenom isn't affecting him the same way that venom did. Basically, they boiled it down to, "I have all the power of the symbiote without the negative consequences".

I feel like the next spidey game will not be Spider-Man 3 it will either be a standalone Venom game (Maybe DLC) or A miles morales 2 (Doing maybe a Superior Spider-Man story, making it doc oct in peters body vs Miles. And also Cindy getting spider power somehow)
It’s not accurate as the comics but it is an accumulation of everything in Spider-Man from the comics, movies, tv shows, cartoons, and past Spider-Man games all in one! insomniacs Spider-Man universe is believable too, I like how they took everything from the Spider-Man universe and implemented into its story that makes sense even if that’s not how it happened in the comics.
The game started out amazing, the second act was so good, but the third act is where most of my gripes lie. I know they could have fleshed it out just a tad bit more.
I think the story really started to take a crap once the symbiote came into play. Gameplay was fun throughout though.
This may just be my preference but I loved what they did in the third act. They really dig deep into the lore of the symbiotes which they don’t seem to do a lot in modern day Spider-Man projects
I think they did a great job with the final act. It was what the game has been building up to with Harry constantly mentioning how he wants to heal the world.
My only gripe was Venom trying to “Heal the World,” which I guess makes sense with how they set up Harry…but I dunno. It was too big of a threat. I wanted a threat to the city…not to the entire human existence. It made it much weirder that the Avengers, and particularly Doctor Strange and Wong, didn’t bother showing up to help. I liked everything up until all that jazz and even with that chaotic mess…there was still a lot that I liked in the third act. So I have to say that ultimately, the game sticks the landing for me and is my favorite of the trilogy
@@jeffbezos3200 honestly I really like how big of a threat venom is in this game. He is insanely overpowered here and probably the most powerful version of venom outside the comics. Too many times in these big budget projects Venom just gets sidelined or dumbed down. He’s never got to be the main villain that he deserves to be. Here they finally did it and made him the true main villain of the game and on top of that they made him the most powerful threat our heroes have faced so far which is great because Venom is my absolute favorite marvel villain and I love how much respect he got in this game!
Honestly, the way they did the carnage thing I didn't see coming, and I am well versed in the comics. I haven't read much about Wraith, so the whole time, I was like, who th hell is this dude. I figured it was a wraith specific villain. At one point, I almost thought it was Danny Rand, aka iron fist...until he had the symbiote. Then my mind was blown. Also I could be wrong but idk if norman Hates spiderman he has no reason to. He saved his life from doc ock in the first game. But his hatred is starting now becuase Harry came back half dead
I love the kraven stuff but venom is barely in the game and the symbiote invasion is only there for 2 missions it felt disappointing the game is still great but the story couldve been longer and slightly better
Im a huge Spider-Man and Venom fan. The squeezed so much venom lore into this game, like forty years worth. You know what, i aint mad. To the people mad about Scream... did you not play the rest of the game?? It's a completely different universe.
I don’t know why whenever I see something about this game there’s always people complaining about a 100 different things, like yeah I get it not everything was perfect but not every single thing should be a 10/10 to have a good Spider-Man game. Me personally I loved the game, it would have been nicer if the game was a bit longer but in my opinion insomniac delivered an amazing game and i am thankful I got to experience it.
My review:
THE GOOD
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 does what makes Insomniac games games fun and memorable. A vast open world with beautiful visuals and gameplay mechanics that compliments the player experience. With addition to the all-new web wings, traversal is improved upon and gets players from point A to point B in no time. Thanks to the SSD, Insomniac does use its power to its full potential. Examples include the Black Cat chase scene, Mysterio’s msysterium, and being able to fast travel anywhere across the map in less than 8 seconds. (Literally anywhere) The combat system is more intricate than it’s predecessors. Being able to use Miles bio-electricity to Peter’s symbiotic abilities makes combat fun. The new parry system makes our Spidermen more vulnerable to attacks and requires much more than simple button smashing. Boss fights are bigger and theatrical and fit the personalities of each villain you face. Although the story is not perfect, it does manage to be cohesive and remain safe for a possible Spider-Man 3. Also, you get to play as Venom…enough said.
THE BAD
Not amazing, but great. Not spectacular, but good. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 falls short on some aspects. Stealth is overall worse than before as no gadgets besides the web line make stealth gameplay at the very least ok. Yes, web wings are fun, but it almost completely overhauls web swinging. Since web wings are a faster way of traversal web swinging becomes not only dull, but an option. The story lacks depth compared to Marvel’s Spider-Man. The climax is predictable and fails to excite to the point I was more invested in “The Flame” side missions as it was more entertaining for some time. MJ missions are back, but she is equipped with a gun. Doesn’t do justice as it feels more like a chore and viewed as a joke to the community base that doesn’t ask for it.
THE UGLY
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is full of numerous glitches and crashes. During my play through I’ve experienced two crashes and several glitches. For example, swinging through Harlem a building was invisible, but objects were still present, during the grandpa mission my camera was stuck on the grandpa and daughter sitting on the bench, during the Martin Li and Miles mission inside Peter’s soul I could not do the new L1 + X ability to launch enemies to the air and several others. All glitches only needed a simple checkpoint restart, but crashes certainly broke all immersion.
Verdict:
Overall, Insomniac understands Spider-Man and what makes him great. Yes, it can be greater, but is still worth a play through that will keep players wanting more.

Kinda shocked by how many glitches and crashes I ran into. Really am shocked because in the first game I ran into 2 glitches (did not require a restart) with zero crashes.
I dont think the opening scene is a "nightmare." I think Norman's actually bonded with one of the symbiotes for real. When Norman says "they ruined my son" to Otto perhaps its not actually Norman talking. I think it could be Riot talking about Venom. Who I believe is originally a son of Venom but it'd be a cool twist if it was backwards this time. Like as well as this game is written i just find it hard to believe they just made Norman suddenly hate Spidey for something HE caused even though Harry came out alive in the end. I mean Harry was in a tank for 2 years before this. Sure maybe he's mad that he finally got him back & then immediately lost him again but idk man... Somethings up. Loophole or not? Only time will tell.
the parrying mechanic is a smart move imo. After playing games like ghost of tsushima and sekiro, parrying is an additional option to mix the combat up abit.
