A Peek Inside - Our Large Family Gluten-Free Pantry Tour

  • In our Large Family Canning Video, I made the mistake of stating that we aren't crazy preppers! Well, maybe we are!?!
    In the past 6 months, we decided to have a better-stocked pantry than we had prior to the craziness of 2020. Can you blame us? The store shelves were stripped bare at times and acquiring foods in large amounts was frowned upon. Large amounts?!?! We are a lot of people and were only allotted amounts that would feed a couple or maybe a small family.
    We learned about hunger insurance from another CZcams family. The saying stuck and we have been depositing into the bank that provides hunger insurance. It didn't happen overnight and we still have a long, long way to go in creating a better emergency food pantry for our large family.

    //ABOUT US!
    We are a large gluten-free homesteading family. We strive to grow, raise and preserve a lot of what we eat to avoid cross-contamination and gut-related issues. We make most of what we eat out of one ingredient foods. That means we take simple ingredients and put them together in fun and tasty ways that don't break the bank.
    If you are gluten-free and are looking for ideas on things to stock your pantry with, you've come to the right place. Many of our videos feature gluten-free pantry ideas, recipes, and tips on stocking a pantry that is gluten-free and healthy.

    So great to have stumbled over your channel! I was shouting "shelve life!" when you couldn't find the right word. I'm Swiss with an Irish husband and know only too well what it's like to scan your brain for the right words. My older daughter is celiac. With Corona, and now this stupid war closeby, it really made me think about our emergency food situation. I'm fully aware we would be fairly save in this country, but we could still experience food shortage. And with somebody in the house who couldn't just eat whatever the shop has on offer, I'm going to extend my allotment garden beds and stock up on GF flour at the least. Thank you so much for sharing your journey!

      Switzerland is such a beautiful place. I have a friend who shares her photography online and it must be glorious to live there. I wish I could have heard you shouting through the screen. I hate when I forget words and it would have been nice to have had a little help there. 😉 I hope your garden is off to a great start. We are still in prep mode here as we still expect frost for almost another month.

    I like seeing your gluten-free options. My sister has a gluten sensitivity and lactose intolerance. My brothers and I are allergic to peanuts. I wanted to start a working pantry for our family of 6 but with our food sensitivities I wasn’t sure where to start to make things last. This definitely gives me ideas. Thanks so much ☺️

    While my family is only half your size, I love seeing your allergen friendly preps. We have several sensitivities in our house and often prepper pantry hauls include like 27 cases of ramen noodles, granola bars and prepackaged snacks which we just can’t eat. We make most things ourself including canning our own soups etc.

    • @UnderThreeAcres
      @UnderThreeAcres  Před 3 lety +2

      What food sensitivities are you dealing with at your house? Aside from gluten, most of us can't tolerate dairy, corn, certain nuts and seafood. Trying to build a prepper pantry with food sensitivities is challenging for sure. I admit that it sometimes makes me jealous of those who can stock up on ramen, granola bars, etc. It would be so much cheaper and easier.

    • @coralkarrass1834

      So we have gluten, dairy and tomatoes..mostly I just can’t do tomatoes. We seem to do ok with corn especially non gmo corn. I started getting the Bobs Red Mill All purpose flour in 25lb bags through my BIL’s bakery which has been great. I break it down into about 3lb packages which has been delightful to be honest. I save about $1 a pound that way. Weekly I make either muffins or granola bars. I also tried doing egg bites and storing in the freezer. Also a couple loaves or bread or buns. I’m able to get a lot of things from Aldis, idk if you have one nearby but that saves tons of money on our grocery bill. Walmart is also carrying their own allergen friendly items like chocolate chips and even white chocolate chips. I keep them on hand for granola bars, muffins and cookies.

      @@coralkarrass1834 my daughter can't do tomatoes. That is such a hard thing to avoid. I wish we had Aldi here in Canada. We used to shop there a lot when we lived in Germany. That had such great deals and organic vegetables at a fraction of the cost of anywhere else. Having a great source to buy flour is awesome. Have you heard of Azure Standard? We don't have it in Canada, but lots of people in the USA love to buy bulk from them. They carry the 25lb bags of Bobs Red Mills GF Flour for under $60. They have lots of bulk GF options.

    • @coralkarrass1834
      @coralkarrass1834 Před 3 lety +1

      We just got an Azure drop site about 20 minutes from me. The bakery price I get is Amazing $45 for the 25lb bag. US dollars of course. I’m not sure what the conversion currently is. I didn’t realize you were in Canada. It’s sometimes hard to tell. So far your one of the few covering allergen friendly food hauls though so you’ve got me, there’s always things I might not think of or forget about.

    My son and I both need to be gluten free and I was worried about feeding us when shelves were empty. I bought a lot of peanut butter almond butter. Bob's red mill has 40lb bags of oats. we had to give them away they made his reflux act up. for your family though they would be good.

    • @UnderThreeAcres

      I am so sorry. We couldn't eat oats for years. The empty shelves were so scary. It is so much harder when you can't eat normal foods. Have you been able to stock up on some staples in the meantime? The place we buy our gluten free pasta in 4 lb bags, finally had some in stock again. I ordered a bunch because only the fusilli were in stock. All of the other varieties are still unavailable and it keeps extremely well.
