    I just had this epiphany last year, after years of riding. Hitting some worked over glades and found the rhythm and I felt like MAGIC and now I'm in love. Hated them for years.

    Moguls are actually pretty rewarding if you know how to ride them, it’s just a custom flow course where you pick the lines you ride through… people who say they hate moguls don’t know how to ride them… they make your brain work harder than just carving on a groomer, at the end of the day making you a better snowboarder. Accept the challenge and be better!!

    As a guy who has skied a lot of bumps (and who occasionally snowboards) this is spot on - the up slope of the bump is 100% where you control your speed. The bigger the bumps and the steeper the hill, the more important flexing your legs to absorb on the up slope becomes for control. As your crest/finish the absorption, you get a moment of pseudo weightlessness that allows you to flick the board/skis quickly… and set for the next bump. You MUST look down the hill… looking at your tip(s) is a great way to lose control because every bump you hit is a surprise.

    I Got Stuck On the North Side of a Mogul Hill Double Diamond Once. The Moguls were about 3 - 5 ft high. Chair lift right there looking like a fool. Had to slide on my ass all the way down after trying as hard as I could. They were so close together I could Not get going what so ever. I tool a long time to get down sliding on my boars and ass.
    Now you said you Love Moguls and seen this Clip after have a spark of an idea that got me up to ask" How Can You Snowboard Moguls with a Snowboard ? " I thought no way is anything gonna pop up.
    I see that those are fun, and had no problem with those as long as you don't catch your front edge to face first and almost get knocked out on hard packed snow, almost icy. Got a whoa feeling as I almost did knock myself out caught off guard.
    Either way it made me give up until internet in your pocket was possible.
    I love riding the edges where the machines can't go and it's all floaty powder, and feels like your flying and to slow down you just lean back a bit. Fucked up my Kemper a bit by not seeing rock sticking out from the virgin snow. Didn't rip out my edge, but put a big gouge in it making one side drag for the rest of the day.
    Which sucked. Another question would be how do you fix gouges as wax does not stay I found out. To brittle from the cold and it falls out.
    I got my board at The Cutting Edge Snowboard shop a while ago when the warning or rumor was Kemper boards were breaking in half. Got a $600 board made with KEVLAR anyways, and back then didn't know what Kevlar was or did. But only problem one time was I ripped out half my screws riding hard, so only the toe area was screwed in. The back foot(right foot) was stripped. The shop said they never seen anything like that, and they filled the holes, and put extra screws for free a lot later. While ago so I don't know the exact date. Wasn't mad, I was still able to board up North about 3 hours from me. So I couldn't ride as hard as I used to for the time they ripped out.
    The extra screws did hold no problem. I have a tendency of staying on my toes hard when I am trying to turn hard and my heal comes up, and guessing that's why it happened. The shop was also happy that they were able to sell the expensive back then boards(early 90's)& still works like a dream. The Freestyle board was a new and good choice back then. Heavy yes, but strong yes. It didn't matter as the weight is already on the ground as you are riding. Your not carrying it. It also bends, but not like other cheap boards, so you can dig in hard when needed, and any ice sucks. Wish they would add another extra edge if the board slides out from under you, it would grab with a second edge to grab if the angle went to far. Like ski's have 2 edges to grab better, plus with ski's you can spread the ski's out and one under you and the other away, so you don't go down fast at all. when you know how to hit ice.
    Well hope you can answer some or all of my concerns about boarding and massive Moguls.😊

    The hardest part even for intermediate - expert snowboarding are edge catches. With the different levels it can be dangerous but always have confidence and bend your knees.

    Good to see someone helping Homies and Betties get into the original "park" features!! How about a tutorial on Pivot and how to make the moguls go away completely. I feel like being able to access pivot, at any time in my riding, allows me to turn any time I wish. It is as if the moguls are not there, when pivot is available in either direction. Ironically, I take students to a green almost flat pitch, to help unlock pivot skills. Shoulders need to be quiet and arms are used as a pressure movement from tip to tail. So true when you say to place your weight on your front foot. However, what happens when the board encounters the uphill pitch of the mogul? Your weight will be shifted to the back of the board by the terrain. If you wish to control pressure from tip to tail, with less center of mass involved, maybe try to lower your front arm and raise the trailing shoulder and arm. Hand placement needs to be on the side of the turning edge, so timing is paramount. With quiet shoulders and stable center of mass, your arms and shoulders can help and not impede. From fingernail to fingernail, it is the largest lever your body has to use. In most cases, unfortunately, they are the root cause of getting stuck on a toe or heel edge in moguls. Either that or being broken at the waist as in your video (2:04 in video) will manifest the "nature of the moguls". Mistakes in posture and arm placement will NOT be forgiven LOL!! Maybe a hint for yourself and others, would be to get closer to F3 with your highbacks. Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems as if you have minimal forward lean in your highbacks? I like a F3 at least with my highbacks to allow suspension when my legs are extended on a heel edge. Ladies might adjust forward lean with care, as their calve muscles are lower than a man's. ANY questions or comments are welcome Fo Sho!!! Been slammin' moguls for 38 years now, and at 62 years of age, some would say I "still got it" LOL!!! Shred on you crazy diamonds.......

    Question for a newer snowboarder. Are you essentially counter rotating? I was under the impression we should avoid using tne backfoot to turn, or is that just when carving?

    • @pat_unit
      @pat_unit Před 5 měsíci +1

      As someone who is still learning i am trying to avoid technique all the time its really terrain related in this case since you cant really go through a tight mogul field with "usual" technique.
      Its just as it is for all the things you have to adapt to your surroundings.
      Just my 2 Cents :)

    • @reggiejohnston5912
      @reggiejohnston5912 Před 5 měsíci +4

      Also a kinda new rider here, but progresses to where I can carve really well. And for me I've had to do a lot of counter rotation because of the amount of people around. Don't think counter rotation is bad. It's a tool in your toolbox to help control speed in tight spots for us new guys. Have a lot of room on the slopes? Sure, definitely don't speed check. Tight spots where you're not as confident keep on an edge for a long time. Good to speed check. Which is basically counter rotation. This is from my perspective anyways

    • @BrownyMiXer
      @BrownyMiXer Před 5 měsíci +2

      This vid is pretty good: flow with the moguls and keep the weight slightly forward.
      After enjoying these for more than 5 years, I wouldn't say counter rotating is the way it feels, but the better you can push off the mogul with your weight on the back foot, then transfer your weight forward to your front foot while rotating (almost as if pivoting on your front foot), and finally catching the next mogul with the weight returned on the back foot, the better this will flow and feel.
      For me, I got really good at these when I could quickly transfer weight forwards and backwards while simultaneously rotating. The faster you can do this, the more fun this will be. Good core strength and leg strength are crucial.
      Cheers!
