  • How to Make White Wash - ασβεστόνερο - and Gardening Update . How to make whitewash and apply whitewash. Tanya has been to the nursery to buy plants for the garden. In this video, we get a glimpse into the daily life of Andy and Tanya renovating their house in Greece. The video starts with Andy updating us on their progress, mentioning that they're on their third skip full of waste. He also talks about the whitewashing process they're in the middle of, and promises to show us how to make whitewash in a bit.
We then meet Tanya, who has just returned from the nursery after spending the day buying plants. She shows us the various things she's purchased, including cushions for the pergola, lavender plants, and flowers for the borders. She also shows off a pink grapefruit tree and a jasmine plant, which she plans to train to crawl along the fence.
Overall, this video offers a glimpse into the slow, steady progress of a house renovation in a beautiful setting. It also showcases the joys of gardening and the simple pleasures of making a home.
The video also shows how to make and use whitewash. Whitewash is cheap, eco-friendly and can be used to paint walls. The process of making whitewash starts with lime putty, which is mixed with water. A small amount of tile adhesive and washing powder is added to the mixture to serve as a binding agent. The mixture is then applied to the walls using a large brush, which can cover large areas quickly. Before handling lime putty, it is recommended to apply olive oil to hands because it can dry them out. White wash can be purchased from building suppliers, and it is called Asvesty in Greece. We did two coats of white wash for his whole house, costing eight euros.
Tanya and I have bought a small old house in Greece and are living in Greece and renovating the house ourselves. These are our experiences of living here. See the chapters below for a list.

Your accountant is your best friend after your lawyer, we struggled to find a good one, the greek tax system is hideously complex so you can't do a self-assessment as we can in the UK. We have just changed accountant and now use Mary at Kleopas Alliott: m.moustaka@alliott.gr

People used to use avesti to disinfect/clean their houses from the diseases. They were living in the same space with animals and because they didn't have other cleaning products they painted their houses with asvesti once a year.

Fab! Thanks!! Didn’t think I’d be excited about whitewashing.
I’m renovating a place in Corinth with my boyfriend! But doing it only when we have time to come over on holidays.
What colour is the blue on the shutters please as that’s the exact shade I’m wanting ours.
    You’re doing a great job!

Just recently came across your channel. Great content. Thanks so much for sharing your experience on living in Greece. Trying to binge watch all your videos lol Your garden is looking fantastic already.
Do you plan to live there full time in future? Or is does everything close over there for the winter?
I'm just in the beginnings of researching all the pros and cons of living on a greek island so your channel is very helpful. I plan to visit as a tourist first and then go from there.

Yes we live here all year round, its our main home. Our village is not at all touristy so is active all year round. The coast towns and the islands close down and empty in the winter. Mainland and slightly inland is best. We are only 5km from a massive deserted beach so have the best of both worlds
