After a ten-year absence, acclaimed filmmaker Molly Dineen is back with an intimate portrait of Jamaican-born reggae producer, businessman, father, son, and community pillar, Blacker Dread.
40 years after featuring in Dineen’s first film, Blacker invites her to film his mother’s funeral, opening the door to his life at a time of great personal crisis. As the story unfolds, he reflects on the issues that have dogged his last 40 years here in the UK; inequality, poverty, crime, and racism, and why he sent his youngest child back to school in Jamaica.
Made with intimacy and warmth, the film takes us deep into Blacker’s world and, through his eyes, offers a rarely-heard perspective on life in Britain today.

Delivery driving in Brixton over the years and always used to see blacka dread outside his shop speaking to members of the community. Very friendly man he would always say hello. Good to see a journalist who recognised his good kindness put together this story of blacka.

Saw Blacker Dread back in day about 1988-1989 in Brixton. Me and my crew travelled from Reading to Brixton to rave.
One of my crew wanted some things and Blacker said he would get it for us. I was the only one that recognised him.
My crew handed over some money to him and he said he would go into the blues party to find something for us.
I really did think at the time we would never see him or our money again.
But he did come back with our money saying he couldn't find anything.
    What a guy!!
Sir Coxsone was a sound that played different from the rest.
They understood the music and how it should be played.
Unlike Saxon that had nuff music but sometimes I couldn't understand why they played certain tunes!
Miss those days and all the big supers of the day... Daddy Ip, Tenor Fly, Smile Culture...etc just to name some.
    Respect all round.
