  • • Black Americans Expres...
    As my subscribers know, I have been collecting meaningful documentary material for most of my career. In the late 1980s, I produced a television series on the 1960s back then I was an independent documentary filmmaker working for the networks etc. This compilation was put together by me from footage that I collected back then and although I did not shoot these scenes, I worked for the producers that did. These black Americans are angry. And expressing it articulately. Does it sound like today? In some ways yes. With the murder of George Floyd, people have gone into the streets again and some of what I present here could sound like it was recorded in the present.
    Some subscribers asked why I use the word rage in my title. Yes they are angry. Yes they are seething. Yes they are disgusted and frustrated, the speakers. Looking up the definition of the word rage, I feel that some of these expressions speak to that emotion. I have interviewed so many people of all stripes on this issue and the stories that I have heard from black Americans who have suffered indignities that seem hard to believe. Somewhat disgusting. Some people have treated them as subhuman.
    There is not much one can say who has not experienced what they have but I feel that by presenting this history, certainly not all that occurred back then, but a part of it, that I am helping to create a historical record which is three-dimensional if you look at the dozens of commentaries I have posted on my CZcams channel regarding civil rights, human rights, American history, family life, etc. during the 1950s, the 1960s, up into the present. I am over 80 years old and I'm still recording stories and commentaries like these.

      Depends on whose saying it. There was a samll group of AA who left America in the 60s and moved to a small town in Israel and today they have grown to where they are the majority in that town doing just fine outside of America's system of racism and ws. @F Thomas The system that was put in place perpetuates racial antagonism. It's principles are based on exploitation. The conditions that allow it to continue would have to be transformed to a permanent system of justice, and a system must be judged by it's principles, not it's adherence. The revolútionary leap to systematic justice will change it all together. Unfortunately for our situation it can't be reformed away. We've ran the gamut of that "experiment" in the last century and here we are with the same problems that were created outside of our will and intent, but have not been solved as we have attempted to do in full measure within this system. It's for us to make that revolútionary leap to true liberation and independence. Then it wouldn't matter how hateful another race is of us, from that point forward they will no longer possess the wherewithal to carry out racist actions against us. They'll just be people smouldering in race hate without the means to affect us anymore. That's liberation.

      @TravelWithBradley Před 3 lety +35

      @@donaldrex0495 Yes, I understand you entirely. It is an extension of your original thought process and still, in my opinion, entirely wrong and illogical.
      Plenty of "pure americans" have entirely different world views to you... But you wouldn't get out just because somebody like them gets elected, you'd say, if you don't like it here - let's improve it.
      But no, when race is involved, there is no extension or olive branch or hope, there is only your miserable view of "do what I say, be like me, or gtfo"
      which you don't apply to yourself, or anybody else who doesn't fit your profiling.
      Furthermore, when did anybody express that they were ungrateful for being in america? All I saw was people wanted to be treated equally, as they were brought here and used as slaves and were still feeling that effect?
      Additionally. It's a public forum, if you don't want others to respond, don't post your views in a public place.
      Plus, it's 2021, it's not hard to get an 'opportunity' to live anywhere in the world. It isn't a thing you can say that has value lol.
      For somebody so "American" You seem to have a massive problem with freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and an absolute problem with people wanting to live differently than you? Are you sure you're American? You sound like a fascist =)
      Also to further your analogy;
      "Somebody moved in next door to me and said the house was full of damp"
      - LOVE IT OR GET OUT!
      "meanwhile, you and your 5 other friends live in lovely houses and get to complain/improve it as much as you want"
      If you're allowed to complain, so is everybody else, we don't live in a world where people give up their rights as human beings just to be part of your 'club'.

    5. Angela Yvonne Davis? (identified by @Vernon Andrews, God bless you***but I'll place this as a tentative identification let's confirm. The lady in the clip has a distinctive American drawl, whereas the clips I can see of Angela Davis she has a British Accent and slower clearer distinct enunciation of words. Angela Davis also has a distinct gap in her upper front teeth - very prized in my African culture btw a mark of beauty - whereas this speaker doesn't but will leave this here as we confirm). Amazing amazing woman. Started out in the Student non violent coordinating committee, then Black panthers, then Che-Lumumba club, In 1970 she was the third woman in history to be placed on the F.B.I’s “10 most-wanted fugitives” list. Was acquitted of all charges. Ran twice for vice president of the United States in 1980 and 1984,
    still active in the movement to improve prison conditions and dismantle the prisons-industrial complex. Davis continues to be an activist and lecturer as Professor Emeritus of History of Consciousness and Feminist Studies at the University of California at Santa Cruz.
    She's among several prominent black women activists that initially were members of the black panther party: Angela Davis, Kathleen Cleaver, Assata Shakur, Elaine Brown, Charlotte Hill O’Neal, Chaka Khan, Tarika Matilaba, Judy Hart, and Barbara Easley. There was something on the air in the late 60's and early 70's.

      @Peggy Wislon Well said! I agree that trying to reason with the unreasonable is a fruitless endeavor, and that after that noble effort feels, or is, wasted then there is no other choice but to speak in a way that they, the unreasonable, would understand, through screaming and/or impassioned pleas like some of the fine folks in this clip. I don't know if the majority of US citizens are unreasonable though, just too comfortable with the way things are or they have a differing view on how things should be improved. I don't know and hope that we all, as neighbors and as fellow Americans, can figure out a way to respect each other without a need to resort to shouting or screaming. Maybe an impossibility but I still hope it can happen and will do what i must to make that a reality.

      @D Gotti I don't see anyone laughing. So why would you automatically assume anyone is? Seems like quite a stretch TBH. I believe OP was simply noting how the man had a speech impediment, but was clearly putting a great deal of effort into trying to clearly articulate his words without pause. And fair enough, it worked.

    Frustration from a people that simply wanted to be treated fairly. The sad thing is some of our youth today don’t respect the historical trauma of our elders. Notice how well spoken these young men are, yet still America saw them as less than. Imagine our country today, if the playing field were equal from the start. BM and BW have always wanted to live that American Dream, white picket fences, and apple pie..well maybe peach cobbler. Our ancestors were decent people, but hate and planned destruction of our communities lead to the dysfunction we see today.
    Mr, Hoffman, thank you sir, for sharing another important video essay.

      "Equal from the start?" LOL Yeah, it would be nice to live a fairy tale instead of living the ugly reality of this world. It sure would. I'm not black, but I sure the f&*k didn't grow up with the same kind of money and opportunity lots of other people have, including large numbers of wealthy black families and their children. What benefit will I get from sitting around whining, complaining and blaming the situation? Zero. I do benefit from recognizing the situation and accepting it for what it is. From there, just being willing to work my ass off is the key. Try to learn every day, and work your ass off. You'll climb, and your children will benefit from it. It's that simple.

      @@tomjohnson3141 Who tf are you to say you are in a position comparable to black peopled? You were poor but did you have do deal with generations of trama along with sitemic racism and other forms of oppression. Do you ever wonder if you would live to be 18 or live in a community where that was a huge achievement? Did you work like hell only to get your money stolen or get caught up in a legal issue because you looked “suspicious”? You have not and will never experience what growing up the way some black people do and that would be fine if you didn’t take your provaleged mindset and throw it on to a group of people still healing from decades of centuries of trama. Telling people to get over it and work harder I sent going to fix their minds but therapy, time, and good influences will.

      @@LK-em2ly LOL.... and who the f&*k are you to try and spin my comment and put words in my mouth? As far as I'm concerned, you can post up under an old Oak tree humming slave spirituals for the next 50 years. Nobody (including other black people) really give a s*+t about what you do with your life. That includes all the black lawyers, realtors, school teachers, coaches, cops, business owners, sales reps, judges, politicians, etc. i.e. the people that have CHOSEN to make something of themselves. You sit back and cry all you want, but spare others your buills&*t excuses. People need, and deserve, encouragement, support, and truth. Doesn't take long for a troll to derail a thread does it? I wonder why they go out of their way to show they aren't willing to sympathize or empathize with the other. Offering suggestions on how to make it as if this hasn't been debated in the community by minds far sharper and for a time far longer than they have been on this planet?
