- The super coach from England: left England to coach Fiji in 2013. Went without pay for a while but still stayed. Got the Fiji boys fit, introduced them to dieting, got them contracted and much more. He went on to coach the boys to win 2 World Series Championships, and to win Fiji's first ever Gold Medal at the Rio Olympics.

If you'll watch Fiji's game during his era. Our team used to do the whacking when the second half begins, that's cause of Ben Ryan's speeches. He watches the game carefully and comes with solutions to the problem. That's what I like most about him. What a blessing to be coached by this man.
One of best part in watching 7s in Ben Ryan's era was his halftime talks....became our everyday quotes. Biuta, barasi, talanoa and choose your battles.

Ben ryan is a name known by all fijians. He was an amazing coach and it must have been hard for him to leave fiji. Even though he is not our coach he still follows fiji and supports them through every tournament. This video is emotional

Attitude important than talent. Ben saw what other local coaches were lacking in the modern game. Consistency!!Ben knew what the Fijian boys were capable of. There was clarity and understanding in their roles as a Team. He earned the respect of his players and they performed to what is required of them. They were disciplined, physically and mentaly robust. Classic example of a great leader and a mentor.

The difference between a coach and a mentor.Coach is performance driven to improve performance & mentoring is more development driven looking at current ballers and also ones to take over from the currents.Sir Ben Ryan was both and evening going an extra mile and that’s being a father figure,one who shows the respect for the lads in knowing that they have knowledge for the game but just need tweaking and refining in arrears we lack like food discipline before games ( which is a hard thing) for any island nation.Phone discipline,family visiting players in hotels before and during games,sleep discipline & mannerisms in and off the field.Ben Ryan was more than just a coach,mentor but also a father figure to the boys 💯👊🏾🙌🏾🇬🇧🇫🇯

He took both the role of a good coach and a warrior chief judging by his words. Before, we used to send a chief with the team to do mental prep to the team before going onto the ground for Battle. Ratu George Kadavulevu, Ratu Penaia Ganilau and Ratu Ilisoni Qio were those that normally accompany teams when they leave.....they were bred to lead.....when Ben came he took both roles...no wonder he was accorded with honor when he was given with a land...just like a victorious warlord of old.
