I absolutely LOVE everything about this setup, thanks for sharing Kyle!
Thank you Kyle - that was a VERY inspiring video! Well done.
Your set up is top Kyle. Very nice and very functional. Love it.
Absolutely stunning setup. The ergonomic chair from FlexiSpot blends seamlessly with the entire setup.
Comments like these are why I love you Flexispot
Excellent video on setup with Mac tools sets. Thank you for great ideas.
Looks so awesome! I have noticed that I am going back to 1 monitor as well. I stay productive, and don't get distracted w/ the mac sitting there :D Very inspiring for someone who has been thinking about the Studio Display. Nicely done!
I love the new dark look. Nice!
Kyle what the heck is that wallpaper??? It's amazing!!!!
Best setup and most beautiful I've seen
Love your setup! Can you please make a video about your lighting!
Great video man!
Superb setup brother😍😍
Congrats! Well done...
it looks soooo good
Thanks for sharing so inspiring just purchased by m3 max mbp today and looking to rejig my desk setup
Your set up looks as great as you do.
Great channel, thank you, I bought the same laptop yesterday after watching your review. 👏🏻
Your new setup is amazing, and I especially like the dark esthetic. Now that you've sold your Studio desktop the only item my setup has in common with yours is the Apple Magic keyboard with the keypad 😁.
You Sir just won a subscribe. Very nice video and your desk setup is one of the best I' ve seen!
You are the goat, Thanks for giving your valuable subscribe. It must be an honor for him that you think that this is ONE of the best you sir have seen.
Awesome you set up bro, plus your audio sounds excellent now ❤
thanks! Also just grabbed the DJI Mic 2, so gonna try that out as well, haha
Hi Kyle! Love the setup you have! Where did you get the shelf where it holds your controller and toys?
I feel that your set up is magnificent especially the way you protect your mac book by using an external drive plus the caldigit hub ts4 which serves you very well , may I ask do you keep your mac book plugged in all the time constantly therefore battery being at full 100 percent which may deplete it . Could you please share with us how you go about this that is how you go about taking care of it that being the battery. Thanks Kyle great video hope to hear from you .
Very useful thanks. Interesting that you use the MacBook M3 Pro
Very clean setup man, just out of curiosity whats that wall shelf thing you have with the legos sitting on it?
KYLE!!!! What an amazing setup, it just looks totally sublime. I'd give one of mu kidneys for that display. What is the wallpaper???? I went to purchase one of your wallpaper packs but couldn't see this specific one in any of the packs. Maybe I was having a bit of a moment & didn't look close enough!!!
Such a sick setup man! I love that you touched on working off of an external drive almost exclusively, as I'm making the switch to do the same myself! I'm sure you're backing up that drive pretty frequently, but do you mind sharing how you do it?
I have an old PC running TrueNAS with two 8TB drives that I transfer anything important to
Hey Kyle, great job on the setup. I have just one question, why connect your display directly to the MacBook and not through the TS4?
Nice video. I'm thinking of doing the same by consolidating a 2019 iMac 5K and 2020 MacBook Pro into one MacBook Pro M3 14inch as you have. The only query I have really is with your external SSD plugged in to the TB dock (actually, for the question it doesn't matter where it's plugged in) when you go on the road and disconnect the monitor and dock, doesn't MacOS throw errors about the disappering external drive (disconnecting improperly)?
how do you turn off and turn on your Mac? do you need unplug from dock or how it works exactly? thank you for your answers
Could you please share the link to the wallpaper at the beginning of the video? I'd love to buy it! I've checked your links but couldn't find that one! Awesome video as always :)
Do you have recommendations regarding lighting? In my home office i have a ceiling fan with 3 downward lights. It currently has 3 3000 K bulbs which seem not not interact well with my 24" imac monitor. Someone has suggested I try 4000K or 4500 k bulbs which would be a more "natural" light. I've also considered getting a desk lamp. Do you have any recommendations or thoughts?
Kyle, glad you like my list of best standing desks! 2:01
your intonation reminds me of the apparently kid! specially when you said "everyone" :) anw just subscribed! nice setup!
Hey could you share the connection sequence between the laptop - studio display & the caldigit please thank you
I don't use AppleID, but I'm using a Nuphy Air 96 keyboard. Comes with the numb pad and isn't as wide as the full Magiv Keyboard. And the typing experience is phenomenal. I've also got the whiter Logitech MX MAster 3s Mouse and definitely have that yellowing. I've been cleaning the mouse very frequently but that doesn't seem to help. I might be replacing it with a graphite one eventually, I think..
I see you use CalDigit TS4, do you also have a problem with monitor resolution after going to sleep mode and wake up? CalDigit support recommend to wake up with macbook internal keyboard, no external, otherwise monitor will have a problem to restore resolution. Do you have any other expirience with it?
Awesome looking setup and very clean. Got to go with the laptop in the stand. The open laptop on the side just messes up the whole look of an otherwise beautiful workstation.
GREAT video...curated perfectly...and super generous knowledge share. Quick question about your external SSD drive. Do you install applications on the external? Thanks again for all of this helpful info.
Sometimes I do yes. You can just drag many of them from the applications folder and they'll run fine
Thank you!@@KyleErickson
Your setup looks really good and functional, congrats!
I would miss the speakers though, I just can't handle using headphones through the entire day. Sometimes I'll put some background music or videos through the speakers.
Studio display speakers are fantastic! The only time I put headphones on is while editing
Genuinely curious to know what you do with all the stuff you just replaced on a whim
Thanks Kyle for this awesome desktop desk setup video.👍
Coming to the point, I am looking at moving to Apple Silicon for the following tasks:
1. Editing 4K CZcams and CapCut like videos using FCPX and/or Resolve
2. Playing 'in browser' or standalone Web3 games, occasionally.
3. Editing audio for my Podcasts.
From the link provided by you in the description above, it looks like the MacBook M3 Pro you are using has the following configuration:
12-core CPU
18-core GPU
18GB Unified Memory
1TB SSD Storage
Do you think the above configuration should be enough for the tasks I intend to do? Thanks in advance for the reply.😊🙏
what brand was the horizontal laptop stand on the desk?
Hey Kyle, I am curious why you didn’t use the studio display thunderbolt port into the TS4 dock and then use the TS4 into the MacBook for a single cable power solution. Is it because the studios displays thunderbolt port is 3 and not 4?
will the HumanCentric Vertical Laptop Stand fit with a MacBook pro with a case on?
Hey Kyle you seem to be one of the nicest guys out there, wish I knew you personally
Hi Kyle can i ask what are you using as key light??
The setup is amazing!
amaran 200d
Great video Kyle! What happened with your Mac Studio?
sold it!
Question - why do you have two thunder bolt cables plugged in to your laptop? Why isn't the thunder bolt studio monitor cable running into the hub instead of the laptop so that you would only have one plug coming out of the laptop?
Amazing set up buddy it looks great and I am up for a human pyramid
We are planning m2 max Mac Studio for office? Should we get that for $2000 or M3 pro laptop should work well?
and will base model Studio do all the job if using 4k 10bit video editing work flow (Sony a7siii)?
Will 32gb RAM and 512gb Storage suffice (apps, Premiere, After effects, photoshop, Lightroom & illustrator)?
Hey man I got a question, does the docking station you use continously charge your laptop? I got one recently and this one continously charges my laptop whenever I use it, and I don't like that because after reaching max battery it wont stop and that is not good for the battery...
Hey Kyle! Loved the setup. I’m wondering if you’ve run into any limitations with the M3 pro when it comes to video editing? Slowness, increased rendering times, etc
I am trying to decide between the M3 max and M3 Pro but want to make sure I’m setting myself up for success. I know there are two media encoding engines on Max instead of 1 on the Pro.
With all that you do, I’d appreciate the insight since you seem to push the limits on capability.
While editing I don't find a ton of difference at all, just a bit slower when rendering out a video is all vs my old M2 Max
Wow those are some nice headphones. Whomever helped in recommending them is probably the coolest person you know.
and so handsome
@@KyleErickson 😘
I wonder how you fixed the slippery of the desk mat. This one drives me crazy
does anyone know the name of the begining wallpaper?
Can you clarify, when you said, "Effydesk was willing to send this out to me" Do you mean they sent it to you for free? Or they were willing to ship it to where you live? EDIT: If they did send it out to you for free was it in exchange for reviewing/featuring them in this video?
I was wondering, would you be able to plug just one TB cable from the MacBook into the CalDigit dock, and plug the Studio Display into one of the CalDigit's downstream TB ports? Then you only need one single cable going into the MacBook. Or is there not enough bandwidth for that?
should be able to, I just like having that port open if I need to hook up another drive or something.
Single or double monitor depends on what you are doing. For coding, two monitors definitely, for photo editing, typicaly one (just turn off the other one)
hi, one question. If you use your macbook as a desktop, how do you turn it on? Do you need to open the macbook, press the on btn and close it again or is there any other, more enjoyable way like an on/off button on dock station ? Thanks for the answer
I don't turn it off, I just put it in sleep mode.
Question... Why run a thunderbolt cable to your Display from the Macbook Pro when you can run one cable to the Caldigit dock then to the monitor? The dock will charge your Macbook Pro while simultaneously outputting a display signal via thunderbolt. Im not sure what your limitations are, not sure if i missed something... clean setup regardless.
I sometimes use the open thunderbolt port on the back for other things.
My set up is almost ditto of yours, except the display. I went with the 27” LG UltraFine on sale at Amazon, as opposed to the $1600.00 Studio Display….,
How do you turn on the macbook ? Taking it out from the stand? Wake up from lan? Or you never turn it off in the first place and just turn the macbook to sleep?
i never turn mine off, just put it in sleep mode
Dear Kyle you always make interesting videos. In this video I have a feeling that the mouse has very little space, on the desk mat (keyboard is right next), to move around especially when doing design work 😊
there's about 8-9 inches to move it around, not really any different than a standard mouse pad
@@KyleErickson true not much different but iam a designer and anything around my mouse is just so annoying 😀
Hey Kyle! Any chance of an updated peripherals video? :)
I'm planning on doing a USB hub explained video for 2024 and a few more things like it if that's what you mean, but as far as this setup goes, everything is pretty much the same still
@@KyleErickson amazing!! Thank you for amazing content!!
I want an Apple "short" SPACE GRAY keyboard to match with my space gray trackpad.
What do you think is a better buy 15inch macbook Air M2 or Mac mini M2 or M2 pro. BTW love your videos keep growing.
those are all very different from each other and not something you can really answer in the comments section. Best I can say is do some research and find what you wanna use your Mac for and see what others are getting out of each of these machines. Don't forget you can always buy one and if you don't like it, you can return it up to 15 days later.
I think the macbook will tell you if you need a macbook or mac mini. Cuz a macbook will have the portability option aswell so either way youll most likely need a macbook. Then from using it just see if thats enough for you
i'm on the fence about the RAM in my case... don't sounds like 18gb will keep up the same performance as my 32gb ram windows pc
I HAVE been using my macbook in clamshell /prebuilt pc setup for a couple of months now in clam shell but shutdown, and it gets annoying tot ake it off the stand, are you just putting your mac to sleep and do you think that the caldigit being alwaays plugged in ruins battery deg, that's usally my two internal gripes with this seutp.
I have looked it up on the internet, but I wanna hear your opinion and anyon else's Love the earthy tone aesthetic tho.
Thanks always for the killer content.
I never turn it off. Not worried about battery degradation these days. On the old intel macs this was an issue with old versions of macOS, but I've ran similar setups with absolutely no issues. The OS is pretty good at handling this - often times you'll see your battery percentage held to 80% or so depending on your charging habits, but I've had machines plugged in for 4-5 months without any problems. Don't expect this to be any different.
I have found when leaving it in clam shell plugged into the Cal digit TS 4, the MacBook only charges to 80% to prevent overcharging, but they do recommend you take the computer off every two weeks or so to allow the battery to run down. It does require to run cycles once in a while….
thanks then I won't shut mine down lol @@KyleErickson
I don't see the wallpaper on the studio display in any of your packs. Where can we get it from?
no where yet
@@KyleErickson will it be available soon?
Is it not harmful to have the MacBook connected to power permanently?
DAMN
Would you suggest investing in an M2 max today or an M1/M2 Pro and getting something in the future as per requirements? I'm still in grade 11 and do quite a lot of programming and video editing for clients. My dad's iMac Pro has held up quite well, but it's time for me to get a new Mac. My current 2017 Air is very crappy for anything as anticipated, so that is ruled out. I currently do medium to nearly pro-level editing, but I plan to scale it up quite substantially in 1 to 2 years into college. I don't make quite a lot of money today, but I can see how my revenue will grow as I work more towards this. I would also do more complex stuff with AI and ML codebases, but definitely nothing close to that intense for at least 2 years. For my requirements today, even the M1 Pro is plenty but considering my future needs, the M1 Pro will not be able to hold up. Assuming I buy the latest max/ultra series chips 2 years later, I'm still paying more than $3500 for an editing rig (laptop or desktop). Trading this M1 Pro would get me peanuts, and keeping the M1 Pro and buying another rig is a distant talk, so that's a point of concern. But at the same time, the M4 max or whatever would put the M2 max to shame in terms of performance. I can get an M1 Pro for $1300 M2 Max for about $2500. Is it worth the price bump?
I can't really answer that for you - if it were me and money was tight, I'd just use what I have until I feel like it's really holding me back and then upgrade to what I can afford and what addresses my pain points. This is a personal choice though, everyone is different.
Why don't you plug the MacBook into the dock? Does it not work that way?
Logitech, please bring back the mid gray Mx master 🙏
What size desk did you go with?
I think this one is 29x55", around there anyway
@@KyleErickson appreciate the response! Do you think a 32 inch monitor in the middle is too big for the desk?
I think it should be fine - if you go with the desk shelf it'll use up a little more space, but overall, the width should be okay IMO
where is your Studio Display Wallpaper from? Couldn´t find it
made it
@@KyleEricksonwhere I can I download it
@@photobyconrad Hopefully Kyle puts it in a pack and sells it on his Gumroad store. I bought a previous pack and would definitely purchase this one.
Is this the base m3 pro? 11 core cpu, 14 gpu and 18gb ram? And is it performing the same level as the mac studio?
with what I need I don't notice much difference outside rendering video
@@KyleErickson That's nice. Thanks. You have a nice style as a content creator. Nice setup btw ;)
Where is that awesome wallpaper from??

@@KyleErickson from which wallpaper set? I coulndt find it in your website!
@@PedroHenriqueLinharessame
Love to know where to buy/download the wallpaper too. 🔥🔥
I would love to get the wallpaper too!
Is the battery always at 100% when you are with de computer connect to the Apple Display ? How do you manage with this trouble 🤔
no, not always, it hangs around 80% a lot of the time.
What about your microphone?
Not sure what you mean, I don't have a microphone at my desk
Money says speakers will be coming back. The Studio’s speakers are ok, not great.
Not likely, at least for the foreseeable future - these speakers are actually outstanding. They have very similar performance specs to the full-sized HomePod outside of low frequency extension which is to be expected in something contained in such a compact form factor, great dynamic range compression, and volume levels. They outperform any laptop speaker, which is all I need in this space.
@@KyleErickson Fair enough.
