E78: Election update! With Yanis Varoufakis, Erik Edman and our political candidates from Bremen

  • In the next few days, we’ll make history: for the first time ever, an international left-wing movement will be running in elections in two different countries, just a week apart. Our political parties MERA25 will be on the ballot in general elections in Greece, and in the German state of Bremen.
In a sense, these two bids couldn’t be more different. In Greece, our party has been in parliament for four years, and we’re led by a former finance minister. In Bremen, we’re building something from the ground up, with a dedicated local group of mostly first-time activists.
But both cases are a chance for us to put DiEM25's groundbreaking proposals, radicality and spirit of internationalism to the electorate.
So on tonight’s livestream, we’ll be checking in with the candidates and campaign teams. What is electoral campaigning like in 2023? What challenges have they faced? And what’s the historic significance of the coming few days?
Tune in and put your questions to us!

Janis, you lead a vast global quiet network of supporters who concur with your point of view and hold your valor and fortitude in high esteem. I feel as though I can empathize with your discouragement yet I’m confident your soul will rejuvenate and restore vigor to your vision and integrity and will to lead us on in the struggle.

Thanks for the hard work and the courage you are all showing. Getting out on the streets and doing the talking and listening is such an essential job. It's the foundation of a party for people and planet. It's transnational and solid with coordinated policies that enrich and sustain life. It's the contrast between the magical and corrupt thinking of the present system, with a socially just reality borne of a shared vision of the future direction of society to safeguard and protect people and planet. A healthy future for all, with no-one left behind.

Dear Yanis! My heart and mind are with YOU! You give me hope in humanity. I hear you. I see you. My heart hurts to see your hurt. I understand you are tired. Up against powerful forces that have their ways to shut you down. And the most hurtful - eiing attacked by your comrades on the left. I see your disappointment so deep. Please, please, please make sure you have the best personal protection in place 24 hours a day through these times. We want you alive and well 🎉

Those debate questions remind me of the framing leading into the South Carolina debate in the Democratic Primary in 2020 that Bernie Sanders faced. It was pretty clear what was being done. Obviously a coordinated campaign. In that case, there was even a handpicked audience of people tied to the donors. In a perverse way, I would wear the attacks as a badge of honor. If you weren't effective, they would ignore you. If the criticisms from left parties are done in good faith, it is worth engaging. If not, I wouldn't waste time with it. Stoking infighting between left groups, unfortunately, has long sordid history.

The NeroLiberal Hallucination is wide and deep, even corrupting the English language. The word "problem" has been replaced by the weaselly neutral "issue", and "social" by the donnish "societal" for fear of its proximity to the dreaded "social-ism" - just two examples of Orwell's NEWSPEAK. PS: On an English teaching assignment in West London not long ago, my boss haughtily corrected me, "We don't have PROBLEMS here, Mr Hill, only SOLUTIONS!" Yekkkhhhh!!! 😖

Keep my fingers crossed that you will witness a similar result at the upcoming election in Bremen as the KPÖ Plus in the austrian city of Salzburg achieved. From nil to 20% in the city. Stay true to your convictions and realise the exciting ideas your most prominent member Y. V. communicates so eloquently. Make this world a livable place and become an unifying force that brings regular folks together. To focus on housing seems to be a winning ticket. Just stay away from gluing yourself to the streets but pursue intelligent solutions concerning the climate. Greetings from Israel 🤞👍

    TV dinner cash
    Can’t afford a stash
    Or even a vegetable mash
    Healthy as eating trash
    Them cats eat jazz
Live in an apartment with snazz
    Furniture’s too crass
    Leave the space to dance
    Fast fast into trance
    You know I just can’ts
    Still putting on my pants
    Occupying all my hands
    So sacrifice the fans
    The sexy people with tans.
    It’s all in the formulation
    A key form of stimulation
    Sneaks in for manipulation
    I don’t want a solution
    Only a surface restitution.

Bremen use your personal power; think outside the box; remember the butterfly effect... or dominoes; make as many community meetings... use other like minded groups... street work is hard... if you want wider impact do a roadshow.. the power of the word can be done and spread outside.. use your own networks

The questions asked to varoufakis were truly remarkable. They knew he was the only one who could talk about finance so he was never asked about it. KKE (the communist party) had a horrible "acceptance" of collaboration to overthrow the "social democracy " pasok which caused so much conflict and inner fights, which is why they will never collaborate with anyone else, which is egoistic as heck but it also makes sense why they choose to do that, considering varoufakis has been stabbed in the back by both pasok when he was a financial advisor for the economic crisis in Greece AND syriza as the minister of finance. So, I get why he doesn't like that kke won't collaborate, but he should have understood why when his own collaborators embarrassed him and made war against him like he says in the video. The left IS divided. Because HOW to get to socialism is dividing. Kke says that only through a new eam we can protect ourselves and only the proletariat through a revolution can do that. Varoufakis says we should vote for social democracy in the whole Europe first and then well see. Historically, votes mean nothing under capitalism. Only revolutions bring change. So we should ONLY collaborate and find a plan all the left together on how to organize a revolution. Not how to vote and give left parties (diem 25, kke, antarsia etc) the partisan power to maybe help the proletariat. The proletariat only can do that. Not with votes. Not with partisan politics. With a revolution only.

parliamentary democrazy is an illusion . Direct Democracy must come from and be organised by the people themselves. The woke left is a neoliberal psyop designed to divide people from the real issues. The Media is totally controlled by the wests psycophathic system . Anarcho syndicalism like in Spain 1936 is something we can learn from and adapt into todays struggle.
