Sweden - A Journey to the Wilderness Road - Part 2.

- We make it onto the Wilderness Road and head east towards Halingsafallet to visit the canyon and the waterfall, then we get the chance to explore the ancient Sami village at Ankarede before finding a wild camp a few kilometres from the Stekkenjokk mountain road.
We put the dutch oven to some good use and I finally get the opportunity to go fishing.

As a native Swede, I'm thoroughly enjoying your videos. The true beauty of the wilderness in Scandinavia is that large portions of it are still very sparsely populated wilderness areas. I've come to realize that in a world of increasing population density and high tech mapping/GPS systems, paired with fewer and fewer wilderness areas available to the public, Scandinavia is becoming increasingly popular as a tourist spot. With CZcams, and GPS, there are no hidden gems anymore. Or as we say in Swedish, "smultronställen" (literally translates to "wild strawberry places", meaning places of extraordinary beauty, usually not very well known). I.e., hidden gems. The "Allemansrätten" (Commonwealth rights?) grants everyone permission to visit public lands (even private lands, with some restrictions), and I worry that it's going to get questioned and potentially lost, as wilderness tourism increases. I realize that many other countries on this earth don't have the luxury of a relatively small population per square mile/km, and that they don't enjoy the liberties that Sweden and other Scandinavian countries offer. I thank you for being very conscious of the environment, picking up other people's trash, and leaving no trace. I just hope your videos don't get too popular, and that Scandinavia doesn't get overrun by tourism.
Hi Henrik, I fear you might be right. On my canoe trip last year I spoke to a local who complained of the sheer numbers of canoeists who head to the popular lakes and hire canoes for a week in the summer. There is a German company that seems to have a monopoly on canoe hire; I noticed a few of the campsites had a litter problem and this was well before the summer season started, I can imagine it's much worse by the end of August.
I think the northern areas are a bit too far for most people to travel within a standard holiday window so hopefully it will remain much the same as it is now. It's a paradise coming from the increasingly claustrophobic UK.
Thanks for watching, I appreciate it! Cheers 👍
Your front runner box table idea is pure genius.....patent it and get frontrunner to make and sell them👍👍👍
The choice you explained for the campfire, it might not sound much to the world. Most ppl and land owners would be ok with a Fireplace set up used and handled correctly. But You choose to leave no marks after you, this is what Allemansrätten is intended for. "All this nature, belongs to someone, but we can all enjoy it together, and take care of it Together."
I live in östersund and my family own land in strömsund area I know that area very well. I’ve been to the wilderness route several times. You’re very welcome to come over to jämtland again 👍
Cheers Samuel, you live in a great place! We visited Sweden again briefly this year; Loftsdalen and Mora. Next year we will return 👍.
Overland and Outdoors IF You ever come to Jämtland again please send me an email samuel.brauckmann@gmail.com and come for a beer or something 👍🍻 also how do You get from uk to sweden with your car? Via France from Dover or Holland from New castle? I would like to know

Cheers Stephen! 👍🏻
Yet another great video. I can't wait to get my rig finished and out on the trails.
Cheers Lenny! Good luck getting your rig finished 👍🏻.
I like your style of treading lightly, leaving only the tiremarks.
It's sad, if you come to a particular nice spot and you find it littered with garbage.
You guys are an outstanding good example for the overlanding community👍👍👍👍👌
The Brewbox is really cool, also the dual-use of boxes with the "tabletrays".
Ahhh fishing, it is such a rewarding waste of time, isn't it? Contemplating all sorts of thoughts while being outdoors. Life is good!
As always, looking forward to the next episode. Cheers!🙂
Cheers! Yeah the fishing thing is weird, in my experience, catching a fish is almost an inconvenience 🤣!
Love from INDIA ...i thoroughly enjoyed your video ...keep it up 👍
Been watching your episodes now for a while and got to say your camera work gets better and better, keep up the great work and we will look forward to the next episode

As others have said, another great episode, thanks for sharing your adventure with us.
And thanks to Trish for the great camera work
Cheers Stuart! 👍🏻
Great episode which every one that watches your channel has come to love. I went to Sweden in feb 2006 to watch the rally Sweden, the contrast is really stunning in your filming, every thing was white when we were there. At -22 you can only imagine the fun we had. Thanks for sharing this episode truly inspiring.
Thanks! I bet Sweden was great at that time of year, we did think about planning a return during the real winter but we're not sure if we could cope with the level of cold.
Good luck next time with the fishing! 👍🏻
Cheers Matt! 👍🏻
Great video👍
Cheers John!
Simply brilliant man. "Though shallt have a fishy when the boat comes in!"
Cheers Graham, good job I wasn't relying on that rod for food 🤣.
Great content bonny lad!
Stella strong stuff? Yes, I'm Belgian :-) Nice videos, I enjoy them a lot!
Cheers! Ah yes, Belgium is the land of strong beers 👍🍺
Another great post, awesome drone shots of waterfall. How lucky did you guys get with that log shelter by the lake and the Dutch oven are so versatile.
You may already know fishing jig your lure on retrieval differing speeds, maybe add some silver foil / or similar.
hope you get a chance again.
cheers.
Cheers Kevin!
nice tables/dinner trays , careful frontrunner don't steal that idea . excellent episode.
Cheers Fred!
I reckon you could start a small business selling those wood and stainless steel trays. Nice idea!

Cheers Enno! Sweden is a great place, perfect to get out and practice bushcraft. The forest goes on for miles and miles, it's an amazing wilderness. Good luck with your travels 👍🏻.

Another great video, the scenery looks absolutely fantastic. I'm sure that bread tasted as good as it looked especially after a day on the road 😎
Cheers Mark. It was like half bread, half cake......perfect!
@@Adventure-Outdoors That's a win/Win in my books 👍Looking forward to the next episode. It must be great (although time consuming) going through the video footage of a great trip, then editing it all - brings back great memories I'm sure - 2019 trip already planned?
Yeah it's amazing how quickly you forget about the trip, I think because every day is different and so much is going on that you only remember certain parts. Sitting down to edit the footage is always good though, brings it all back. We haven't got anything planned yet for next year, Tris is studying so she has work that needs to be submitted next summer which might alter our usual pattern of travel. How about you? Have you got anything organised for next year? I could do with some ideas!
@@Adventure-Outdoors Maybe a winter trip next year after Tris has completed her work? Eastern Europe maybe? I'm more of a last minute planner now(other than Morocco which I planned for two years). We are planning family trip to Canada next year, but if it doesn't come into fruition in the next month, I'll revert to my back up trip with a friend and drive down to southern Portugal.
My ideal trip would be a couple of months travelling around Canada (in my own vehicle) - such a picturesque country, with plenty of places to lose yourself - I've even looked into Jeep hire when we are over there doing the usual tourist holiday just so we can escape to the mountains for a day of two
Sounds good Mark, getting around Canada in a 4x4 sounds like a trip and a half! Southern Portugal also sounds like a good trip. Next year might be quiet for us as the year after we're planning a month long trip to Iceland, but we'll see how it goes. Vibraction road books have an Eastern European edition out but it looks like a 3-4 week trip, I wouldn't mind doing some of that but, as ever, time is an issue.
HI, great vids, looking forward to more. I'm about the mount Aluminum boxes on my roof rack. I'm interested in your solution for attaching them to your rack. I'm thinking of using brackets used for Roof boxes.
Cheers Gary! I drilled 4 holes into the boxes and slid 4 8mm bolts into the front runner rack and fastened them that way. If you don’t have the Frontrunner rack I’d just fit them the way you suggested, should work fine 👍.
@@Adventure-Outdoors Cheers, I do a Frontrunner rack, sounds like we have the same idea. :)
When fishing with spinners i find more chance of a catch by casting to my left then real in then to my right and so on,im not a fisherman but for some reason un known to me they call me in my village were we live in uk king poacher,so anyway i get as an avarge 10 casts 8 fish by how ive told you, good luck enjoy stay safe guys xx
Cheers Robert, I'll give that technique a go, I need all the help I can get when it comes to fishing 🤣. I didn't have any luck at all on this trip but I figured the fish were less active due to the cold or something! 👍
20:00 did you make gravy with the chicken juice ? :)
Great video, would love to do this as a future trip, maybe next year. How do you find the Toyota Hilux for overlanding?
Cheers! Yeah the truck has been good, no problems at all 👍🏻.
great videos, how do you find the hard shell roof tent compared to your old soft one? what pro's and cons have you found? thanks
Thanks! The hard shell is more comfortable especially in high winds and its easier to put up and take down. The downsides are the extra weight, the size and it's really awkward to get it on and off the vehicle. I guess the hardshell is a bit more robust too, my soft tent was beginning to show some wear and tear especially on the zip/cover. I still much prefer the hardshell but I'm not sure that they're worth twice the price of soft roof top tents though.
@@Adventure-Outdoors thanks, apreciate the reply.... sounds like soft might be the way to go for me then. cheers
You can buy strong alcohol from a government shop called system bolaget 👍
Kinda unequipped I belive , can you survive a sudden snowstorm - you absolutley need snowshuffles in the van and the clothswear is southerners - extr blankets in the car ( a must )
Hi this was filmed at the end of September so no real risk of sudden snowstorms, we were perfectly prepared for the time of year and the weather conditions 👍.
12:58 did you manage to open it for her? :p
Hello, I am from germany. i knew the Swedisch Countryside. Bad i can´t not understand the Name of the Places were you ar Visit. Pleas, Have You an Mappe from your tripp.
Fantastic idea on the Frontrunner Boxes! Was thinking about something like this but hadn't figured it out yet ... I have now ;-) I am going to steal that idea from you if you don't mind ...
We use our Frontr. Boxes for seating, tables, cutting boards, ... but this is going to make them a lot better. Love it !
Cheers! There's no need to carry a table anymore I reckon 👍🏻.
Kota, not Kato.
Hi, what stove do you use ?
Hi mate, it's a Cook Partner stove, I had to import it from the US. Great burner but it cost a small fortune after delivery and import taxes etc.
I just had to watch this vid for the 3rd time.
can you gimme the recipe for your gluten free bread please?
loving the rig, the ronnie sunshines ( I have 2 sets of ronnies cast iron ware) loving the journey and the scenery.
BUT...( there is always a but), That is not a firepit, it is a brazier. Common misconception.
A firepit is a hole dug into the ground.
Brazier, fire in a receptacle above ground.
Anal, I know.
There are braziers I would like to buy in overlander/4x4/wholesale shops which are advertised as firepits....I can't buy any of them :-( , it's like OCD
keep making those vids :-)
