  • The Pantry is one of the included dining options on the P&O Pacific Encounter. Other included dining options are the Main Dining Room, Angelo's and Dragon Lady which will be in separate videos.
    The Pantry is a staple restaurant on all P&O ships and is buffet 'style' meaning that the food is in separate stations but the majority of food is served by staff rather than help yourself.
    Stations are Mexican (Mexicana), Asian (Stix), Indian (Curry House), Italian (Nic & Toni's), Roast (Fat Cow), Fish & Chips (Hooks), Salad Bar (McGregor's Garden) and Desserts (Sugar Bar).

      Hi Seren. Fiji is a fabulous cruise and would love to do that again some day. We did it in 2011 (wow, where did that time go?) and had a great time. We had some issues with local taxi drivers. Not sure if it's the same now but be wary if you are getting them to take you somewhere independently.

      Hi and thanks for watching. We think that the Pantry is the best 'buffet' restaurant on any of the Australian sailings at this time with the only exception being Royal Caribbean but they are not even in the same price bracket as P&O. Embarkation Day favourite is usually straight to the fish and chips for us. Not sure when you're cruising but have a fantastic time.

      Hi Juju. Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment. We are so glad that you enjoyed the Coral Princess, we loved our few days on her in June and would definitely cruise on the Coral again. We were watching a video on the Wonder of the Seas a couple of days ago as we are hoping to be able to cruise on her when she comes to Australia in 2024, hopefully. Ali said exactly the same thing about that ship, it looks like the inside of a shopping centre.

      @@robandalicruisetravel yes..different cruises suit different people.....we enjoyed the layout and 'classic' look of Coral Princess....I also enjoyed being able to walk fully around the deck.....I have spoken to a few people who love Royal Caribbean cruises....definitely worth trying out.....we would also like to try celebrity cruises. One thing that your other video on the Encounter surprised me about was having a choice to 'buy' a $20 ticket to see a special Broadway show??....there seems to be a lot of 'on selling' with cruising now....gone are the days when your ticket included almost everything (food, performances,entertainment)....now they charge you for so many extras....I did bingo twice and it cost me over $100....I should have been smarter in calculating that ! Anyhow...I still love cruising and I know to be more mindful of these hidden charges next time.....kind regards to you both!

      Hi Robert. In days gone by we generally favoured the Main Dining Room over the buffet, mainly because of the self service aspect but recently the buffets have changed and are a very different dining experience. We think The Pantry on P&O ships is fantastic because of the variety of food that is available. Still served dining for dinner but breakfast and lunch definitely in The Pantry these days.

    Hi Rob and Ali, thanks for ur wonderful reviews and amazing tips. We are prepping for our first 3 night Pac Encounter trip soon. Would you advise us to pre-purchase any plans? (i.e internet plans etc. ) we have a 4yr old as well.

    • @robandalicruisetravel
      @robandalicruisetravel  Před rokem

      Hi Suri. Internet is a bit of a personal choice. We had it on the Coral Princess as part of the package but not on the Encounter. Where we found we missed it were things like looking something up quickly that we didn't know rather than streaming or checking social media. At the end of the day though, with hindsight, we probably still wouldn't have bought the internet. We prefer to enjoy what the ship has to offer. However, if you need to stay in touch with people on shore for whatever reason or if you need to access something to keep your 4 year old entertained then it is probably worth considering. Not sure what drinks packages there are on a 3 night cruise, I don't think the alcohol one is available but if the non alcohol one is available and you like coffees and soft drinks or mocktails then I would probably consider that one. We always get a refreshment type package for Ali as she doesn't drink alcohol and loves her coffees and mocktails. Always get value out of that as they tend to be reasonably competitively priced and it doesn't take a lot to add up to the value of the package. Bit long winded I'm afraid but hope it was of some help.

In order to be eligible for a 'Community' tab you need 1,000 subscribers. At the moment we are not there but we are working towards it.

    nice vid. always sailed on carnival but just booked a P&O cruise the pantry/buffet looks a lot better than carnival I would only eat breakfast at the buffet on carnival, but the pantry looks like its better than the main dining rooms on P&O as most of the restaurants on P&O are a extra charge and not included. I'm gonna try something different this time and compare what's the best cruse line for for me for future cruises PS I'm a fat bloke that likes eating and drinking and watching the shows on cruises

      Hi and thanks for watching. The Pantry is a lot better than the buffet on Luminosa for all meals but especially breakfast and lunch. Luminosa has some good lunch options other than buffet though. The main dining is OK on P&O and we actually found it better than Luminosa but it was the first trip out. We are back on Luminosa in April so we'll be able to do a better comparison then. When is your cruise?

    Hi Guys, which cruise food did you enjoy the most, P&O or Princess. We are going on Adventure in December but have mostly been on Princess which we absolutely love. Not too sure about paying for everything nearly when it’s free on Princess.

    • @robandalicruisetravel
      @robandalicruisetravel  Před rokem

      Hi Christine. We found the quality of the food to be pretty much on par between Princess and P&O. As for pay v included we have to split this into 2 parts, evening meal and other. P&O have more included evening dining options - MDR, buffet, Asian and Italian whereas Princess only have the MDR or buffet. Asian and Italian you have to pay for. For lunch and snacks Princess have more options included - MDR, buffet, pizza, grill, ice cream and International Cafe whereas P&O just have MDR and buffet, you have to pay for ice cream and snacks. Personally, we are happy with just MDR or buffet for lunch and don't really snack around the ship so the additional included options on P&O are appealing to us. However a late night toastie from the International Cafe always went down well. We are on Carnival on 6/11 and after that we will be doing a comparison between the 3 Carnival brands in Australia so will include a section on food in that. Have a fantastic time on the Adventure and please let us know your thoughts.
