    I've had mine about a year too... Really love the form factor and the sound. I use mine primarily for my 80's cover band. It's flexible enough to handle the job, sounds great, and is a piece of cake to cart around. I'm coming from an 88 key Korg Kronos, which is also an amazing instrument, but is definitely NOT easy to cart around and offers FAR too much programming flexibility and menu diving for my tastes most of the time. I still have the Kronos, which remains tucked away in my studio doing what it's good at (being loaded with high-quality orchestral sounds, programming more complex patches on occasion, etc). The Nord has pretty much become my exclusive gigging board at this point.

    Layer detune is used when you have 2 pianos 1 on panel A and 1 on panel so you can detune 1 from the other especially acoustic pianos because you will not here the distinct pianos because they will have phase cancellation won’t here the distinct sound of each piano so you can detune a little or you go to setting 3 for extreme detuning

    A very informative video, thanks so much for this. I currently own a Nord Stage 2 EX with the 76HP keyboard, but I’ve learnt a lot I didn’t already know, particularly about the organ section - you very clearly explained all the features. I’m considering upgrading to the Stage 3 Compact because it’s probably better for gigs (lighter and slightly smaller). It would be great to have the extra features of the Stage 3 too, particularly in the synth section. How do you find the Compact’s keyboard - is it ok for playing piano sounds? Thanks again :)

      The 88 key version has keys that are less than ideal for organ. They assume you're much more likely to layer it with something and thus you'll probably use presets.
      The compact has hammond style keys, so they put in the physical drawbars, because they assume organ is what you're going to use it for.

    I'm still struggling to choose between the HP76 and the Compact - I'm a traditional piano player, but love the portability and the physical drawbars on the compact. I guess my question is, how good are the weighted keys on each? How nice do they feel? I would go play in person but - lockdown.

      Hi Joe, I've bought recently a Electro 6 HP, which has the same keybed as the HP76. As a piano player as well (I own an Yamaha Upright at home) I did not like the HP keybed. It's very different from the "real" thing. And to play organ and synth on the HP doesn't seems to work as well. So, I returned the Electro 6 HP and I'm getting a Stage 3 compact. Overall it's much better for AP, organ and Synths, and if I want to play pianos, I just go for the yamaha.

I do mainly play piano, but wanted the flexibility to learn synth and Organ, hence choosing the mid ground, but it may have been a little 'jack of all trades, master of none' of me to pick it. What do you think of the acton on the 88 if you've tried it?

    I just bought a Stage 3 Compact and I love it - BUT - the way the Keys are doing when you press it down is very short on my Compact - this iritates me. And the second BUT ist, the pressure the keys are pressing back when I hold a Chord a while seems more than I am used from other Keyboards. When I'm playing it a while espacialy long chrods, my hand starts to hurt. All the time I have to press it down, otherwise they would get back and the tone quits playing. Especialy the my pinky seems to be to weak for this. I wondered if you got the same problems with your Compact?? I own a Nord Electro 6D and a Roland VR-700 - both with waterfall keys and non of those two makes me such problems as the compact. I bought it used but in a very good condition and now I'm a bit worried if with the keybed everything is ok. (sorry for my bad english...) Greetings from Switzerland

    Disregarding Weight, Which do you honestly sonically prefer in order if you could only keep one piano for both studio and live use to use in church Montage, Nord, or kawaii vpc1/ midi control with keyscape or Ivory and omnisphere etc? That is which sounds best in 2021 if money is no question but you can only have one setup ☝️

    • @hifimidi
      @hifimidi  Před 2 lety

      I wouldn't use the VPC1 as a midi controller, but pairing the Nord with Keyscape/Omnisphere is hands down the best of all worlds. I can't play organ on a VPC1 nor do I have realtime control. The Nord's sounds are perfect live, though they are nowhere as detailed as Keyscape. And Omnisphere's synth engine is way more powerful than the Nord. Your question is too difficult for me! Haha

    I am very much considering the NORD stage 3 compact, but I worry on how not great the semi-weighted would be...my needs are portability and great hammer action feel...I think the 73 keys are enough for most music...could you provide me your comments on how semi-weighted feel and will it be enough to be satisfied to a certain degree?

    • @hifimidi
      @hifimidi  Před 4 lety +2

      As a pianist I prefer having weighted keys. That said, the waterfall keys on the 73 are resistant and sensitive enough to enjoy playing piano and keys. You could always buy a weighted midi controller later on and hook it up via MIDI cable.

    • @TorbjrnFrantsen
      @TorbjrnFrantsen Před 3 lety

      Compact is the only one with physical drawbars for the organ section. The HP76 and HA88 have weighted keys, where the compact has lighter (more synth/keyboard-like) keys. The functionality is otherwise the same, it’s just about how many keys, what type of keys, size and weight of course. See more here: www.nordkeyboards.com/products/nord-stage-3

      I'm a piano player and ended up buying a Stage 3 Compact as I didn't like the HA88 hammer action very much and found the HP76 being an unsufficiant compromise only being best in weight. If you really want a good hammer action feel, go for a Nord Piano or Grand or look at other brands. Or use a 2-KB setup with a hammer action MIDI controller playing the sounds from the SW73/Compact. Back to your question: In my eyes, the 73 Compact fits better for piano playing even if it isn't made for that in the first run.
