Bassist Nick Oliveri, who is currently in Kyuss Lives, has been estranged from Kyuss and Queens Of The Stone Age bandmate Josh Homme, and he hopes to one day reunite.
Yeah, 20 years ago and people change, QOTSA were notorious drug abusers at the time too. He did great vocals on "If I Had A Tail" so they've obviously patched things up since
Oliveri left Queens Of The Stone Age in 2004, with Homme accusing the bassist of disrespecting the group's fans with his on tour antics. There were also rumours, which have never been confirmed, that Homme removed Oliveri from the band when he discovered he'd been violent towards his then girlfriend. Oliveri said in 2010: "It took me six years to figure it out, but you know what, I would have axed me too. We did this show in Spain and I was freaking out when he didn't show up for soundcheck. When he didn't turn up, I drank a bottle of vodka and then the show wasn't good at all. Then when we supposed to go back out after the set but Josh was like 'I'm not going out there with you' and I freaked out. I wished now he had just knocked me out, I'd have been sorry when I woke up then."
+BouncingBallsofFire That is pretty solid from everything I've read that Homme has stated. He kicked out Nick for being abusive to his girlfriend (Nick's). Standup dude, Homme!!
@@ianjacka636 Homme is a jerk, don't like and do no trust him at all. Nick is a more honest guy as I perceive him, but totally out of control, has and had severe behavioral problems and addiction problems, violence issues and legal issues etc. Both awesome musicians though and I miss Nick's bass lines.
Nick had some contribution to the band, but I still think QOTSA is doing just fine without him. Josh is def now and was always the Captain of that ship. I also don't think Nick is accurate on how Josh gets rid of people after he takes what he needs from them...I think Nick's getting the boot was 100% his own doing. Actually they were buddies for years and I think Josh gave him more than his fair share of chances. Several serious drug infractions, rumors of spousal abuse and ending with a drug fueled arm stand off with the cops. come on, you can't only ignore so much.
Damn Deal Done It makes perfect sense you suck and so does Green Day. Or maybe you are a God Smack fan...does that one make sense? You have no taste in music.
He was definitely perfect for queens but he tried to live the rock star life too fast....no hes washed up. Can't say I feel for him but he is one hell of a bassist.
dont really know if that what nick was saying are just excuses or kinda true but in my opinion his musical contribution to the band was great... anyway, still love qotsa
Here is my 2 pennies for what it's worth. Point (1) JH is an incredible artist, there is no disputing that - "front-man" or not - but dudes, he executes his songs like no other can...come on. Nick is also an incredible artist and a Bassist extraordinaire. The current qotsta line up is pristine - if that's not too over the top - just my opinion. I would Love to see these guys play music together without the bullshit politics of the music business...just being 2 friends having fun and doing what they like to do, without the pressure of the business fuckheads. Again...just my humble opinion.
Yeah, it's true though. Homme stated that he never really wanted to be the front man. That he was always more comfortable in the shadows, and Oliveri was more comfortable anywhere except the shadows. But I love change. I love Era Vulgaris so much. It's my favorite record of theirs. It's all Homme. He is so so awesome.
Nick forgot to tell that the reason Josh kicked him out was because of Nick's over-the-top drug addiction. I understand fully that Nick had to go, and the band is doing great without him.
Earlier Queen's output with Nick WAS better...but, the last statements in this video probably more accurately sum up the reason for his being fired. Always in trouble with the law, always loaded. The Queens are still making some fine music all the same.
He toured the album, but he didn't join until after it was finished. The guy talking at the end of hand model is a phone message from nick though. And by the way, Era Vugaris and Lullabies are both wonderful albums.
Damn straight, very few bands can put out stuff like that consistently. I don't think people really know how much talent and effort it takes to do that seeing as every fucking person is a critic these days! Rock on dude!
I love the more fun take the piss sound of Turnin on the screw and I'm designer. I love the "get pumped"ness of Run Pig Run. I don't even know why I love into the hollow but I do. Era Vulgaris is one of my favourite albums of all time and certainly the QOTSA I enjoy most. Make it wit chu is nice chill and 3's and 7's is damn fun!
I really feel Nick was telling it like it is. He wasn’t trying to be disrespectful to Josh, he was hurt that he himself screwed-up and was therefore cut from the Queens but a brotherhood like that can live on. Cheers to the QOTSA family and R.I.P. Mark.
QOTSA is a well-oiled machine now, the sound has changed because the band wanted, nobody wants to make SfTD v1, 2, 3, 4..... And i'd not like to have this type of guy in my band.
im somewhat divided on this subject. i mean rated r and songs for the deaf made qotsa what they are, but i dig the sound with Michael Shuman as bass player as well. i can see how Josh Homme is perceived as the front man because he's the vocalist, but Joey Castillo and Troy Van Leeuwen give the band just as much of a unique sound as Josh Homme does as well.
To all the commenters, fans, etc: Dont put people on a piedestal. Please. Its bad for them, its bad for you. So just stop it. People are people, and it will never change. Look to your own life, I believe there are things to be fixed there... right now actually.
The man actually told the truth. It's not like quotsa cant be quotsa without him, but you notice that there are certain elements missing, and a bich of stuff that would sound a lot different (imo better) if he had a say.
True. He added some simple and straightforward, no-bullshit balls to Homme's melancholic and experimental stuff. They were better together than they are apart.
queens of the stone age : josh homme , nick oliveri rated r : josh homme, nick oliveri songs for the deaf : josh homme , nick oliveri , dave grohl remember those albums dear "fans"?
@evilknivel84 you obviously missed my point of what i were trying to say... and after some research i made, you are right... nick didnt perform on the self titled album..
If you've listened to any of oliveri's new stuff like "mondo generator". Vs stuff like homme's latest material...how could you think that oliveri was a big part of the qotsa sound...
Who would've guessed that there would be ARGUING in the comments over QOTSA!!! What a shocker. I'll be one of many to say that Nick is an awesome bassist, and even if he's not with Queens anymore he's still kicking ass. And Queens is still kicking ass. So what's there to argue about?
QOTSA don't sound as good without him, but he was a woman beating monster, if you can't handle your drugs don't do them. Not that Josh Homme is an angel, kicking female photographers in the face, if you can't handle your drink don't drink. There is a saying in my country "the moment you raise your hand to a woman, you cease to be a man".
Like Clockwork is a musical voyage, it's one of their best, most mature and most complete and rich albums to date. And Nick was on it. You'd do well in knowing these things before throwing cheap empty comments like that on just another of his many resented, presumptuous, unrealistic interviews from 2 years ago. 2 years ago. He's a better man now, instead of just trying to pose as one.
i think josh never treated queens as a career...untill queens became a career. and he has to protect his career... nick would of ruined it at some point...so he had to get rid unfortunately.
That was a really shitty thing for Josh to do to Nick. That egoistical prick has robbed us all of years of great music because of him kicking Nick and Mark Lanegan out, taking over the whole musical direction of the band, and all just because he was getting jealous of Nick's popularity. Nick brought so much to the band while he was in it, and the band seems to lack a lot of edge since he got betrayed and was kicked. That is why "Songs for the Deaf" will always be their best album.
Honestly i liek era vulgaris quite a bit because whoever was writing for it got a great style of using the music to express the vocals. But i agree songs for the deaf is quite good.
The only thing I agree with in this video is nick’s opinion of newer queens stuff. I know a lot of people dig it but the newer albums aren’t a patch on the first 3

Nick added the hardcore and the garage precisely what is missed now in the band

Josh kicked him out of QOTSA because Nick beat the shit out of his girlfriend.
wow I knew it had to be some personal issue Josh had with him, because Nick's explanation made no sense whatsoever!
They've been friends since shortly after he was kicked out, Nick appeared on Like Clockwork for clarification.
Also, Nick was so strung out on hard drugs that it was unproductive.
Janice Henning Josh kicked some female photographer in the face a few weeks ago. He should take Nick back
We all make mistakes
I don't think he'll ever be back in QOTSA especially after this.
He'll probably still make more guest appearances.
That was a polite way of saying he was in a standoff with a SWAT team for hours and only released his girlfriend 2 hours after SWAT showed up.
Josh also kicked a female photographer in the face?
