the fluid in your chain cases is not hydro and its separate from the hydraulics in the drive/loader system
Should have made a video of you just sliding the carb forward that’s a pretty good short video that would rack up a bunch of views

DOn't know what year your 1840 is but it's an earlier model with split lap restraint arms. Those short shock absorbers help to stabilize the arms and reduce feedback from your hydrastatic pumps.
Someone replaced them right before I bought the machine
