    One of the additional reasons for the 'calm' weather is because its located almost always under the sub tropical anti cyclone. That is the high pressure in the middle of the North Atlantic (all oceans have one, or two, if they cover both North and South hemispheres). The STAC is also what drives the gyre.

    Some people say that the Native tribes living on Jekyll Island and other small island areas near the coast of Georgia were possibly Phoenicians. They said that in the areas even going inland a little bit towards the Smokey Mountains they found tribes that were unlike any of the others nearby due to their pale skin, blue and green eyes, and tall stature. The Europeans said that aside from their culture they almost could have been mistaken for Europeans themselves. So I definitely believe that the Phoenicians traveled through the Sargasso Sea.

    Now, the amount of sargassum in the sea has usually been rather scanty in modern times. So a lot of those older reports were often considered to be exaggerations. But given the massive mats of the stuff floating in seemingly from somewhere between the Brazilian and African coasts in the past few years we really need to give those reports some serious scrutiny.
    I was reading an article from a sailing website and someone who was participating in a racing event, thought it would be ok to sail through a patch instead of zigzagging though. Boy was he wrong. The pace of the boat went to a crawl, and they had to work to keep the rudder clear. If the Rosalie was caught in such a thick mat that it couldn't move, maybe they thought they could get on any rowboats they had and paddle their way through. Or if they weren't too far from land, some thought they could swim it. 🤷‍♂ Eventually the ship drifts free where it is eventually found.
    7:13 Wait, they found artifacts under the sargassum sea? Why isn't this bigger news? There have been speculations that Phoenicians or someone, has been shipping copper over from American mines into the "old world" and supporting the bronze age there. If they arrived at the sargassum sea, then it isn't hard to surmise that they didn't make it all the way to the American continent.
    I disagree that they were harvesting the sargassum. More likely the sargassum wasn't an issue at first. And then a couple of years and whammo! large mats suddenly show up that made the trip too hazardous to continue. Trade stops and the copper route gets lost to history.

      It’s not real, adhd. It was a way to make being a make being a normal boy into a pathology and a way to make pharma shit tons of money. All studies that affirm ADHD were funded by big pharma. Teachers unions loved it because now boys could sit through their lesson plans geared to girl students. It became a meme in society and now people just accept that it’s real despite no evidence and plenty of evidence that the medication actually harms the children. Imagine thinking that giving amphetamines to a second grader is a good idea. It changes the brain and more than likely actually causes ADHD symptoms after prolonged use. The symptoms are mental withdrawal symptoms and the concentration comes from getting your fix. Stop taking pharma poison.

    I am from Florida and it is pretty common for sargassum to wash up on the beaches. Mostly on the east coast of Florida where I live, which makes sense since it is facing the Sargasso sea.

    It reminds me somehow of Jupiter's great red spot. I knew the Sargasso Sea was a thing, having seen it on some map when I was a kid and wondering about how a sea could be in the middle of all that ocean, but didn't know anything else about it. Thanks for the video!

    The sargasso sea is where the American and the European eel breeds. Pretty much the only difference between the two is one vertebrae but strangely enough one type goes far to inland America as far as Minnesota and possibly even further at one point but hydroelectric dams have hindered their journey. The others swim all the way to (u guessed it) Europe. That in itself is a mystery as to why they have become separate breeds.

    • @markusgorelli5278
      @markusgorelli5278 Před rokem +1

      The map on wiki for European eels also encompasses the Mediterranean. Maybe some Phoenician fishing vessels were following the eel migration when the adults returned to spawn to try to harvest roe (or other reason) and that is how they ended up at the sargassum (which may or may not have been full of weed at that time). Only to see a line of American eels swimming in. I am speculating that the eels were in greater numbers at that time and imagine a dark column that may have been visible from their boats. 🤷‍♂
      If we remember that the Atlantic was once much narrower in the geological past, it may have been that when the eels developed their migration paths, the coasts of east and west might only have been as narrow as a regular river. And what we now know as American and European might have only been east bank and west bank.
