EJ Harrison's Autocar ACX Amrep Octo Front Loader

- You've seen ACX Octo side loaders, now strap yourselves in for an ACX Octo Front Loader. A rare and unusual custom rebody to say the least, this truck is one of a kind with the only other in existence being another rebody Price Disposal had done around the same time a year ago. It's surprising nobody has ventured out to film this truck yet, so I'm pleased to be able to show you guys the first footage of it. Though it's not the fastest or loudest front loader in the game, the sheer uniqueness of an Octo front load body on a new ACX should speak for itself.
You’ll notice that whoever did the chassis swap job (likely Amrep) also performed a couple other external refurbishments on this mid-‘90s Octo body. The cab shield and hopper guards are that of newer HX450 Elliptical FLs, however the original mesh hopper cover was left in place. Despite the fresh coat of paint, they kept the original caution strobe lights on the tailgate which I find to be a neat token of “old school” amidst the complete modernization of the rest of the body.
I would have liked to get more footage of this truck, however the 2nd half of this driver's day was spent going down private farm roads in rural Ojai and we didn't feel like getting shot or detained for trespassing. The first stop after we followed him from the transfer station was just shy of an hour away at a campground smack dab in the middle of the Los Padres National Forest. Despite being chased out by some lady on a golf cart, it was nonetheless a beautiful drive with exceptional scenery.

I am liking this new trend of rechassis and rebody'ing an older unit. It definetly breathes an entire new life into the icons of yesteryear. This looks to be the works of F.F Gomez. Huge shout out to them for being able to cram all that emissions control crap between the cab and the body while observing the clearance for the packer follower.

It's definitely becoming more of a SoCal trend than anything else with Burrtec and EJ as the primary pioneers. I'd expect others in the state to follow suit soon, especially those with aging fleets. In fact, I believe Cal Waste just rebodied an old wittke on a new ACX. There's obviously a way to do it that makes the whole process cheaper than just buying new - not to mention the durability of the bodies themselves.

Finally! Such a good looking truck, wish there were several more but I'll take what I can get. Driver ran the truck pretty good especially compared to many of their other drivers lol. Glad you finally caught this!

Thanks Aaron! It's certainly bizarre at first glance when you realize what it actually is... but it didn't take me too long to warm up and actually find it quite aesthetically pleasing. Glad you enjoyed.

Nice find Eli! An awesome combo that looks even better in EJs colors! Maybe not the fastest but still had a more than decent pace to it. Also loved that the driver does slam to shake, that made this even more entertaining. Nice work!

Heads up the rebody 209 will be a 2022 peterbilt 520 amrep octo ASL but unclear who it's going to yet or when 209 will be ready. Also EJ Harrison ordered 12 brand new trucks one is ready 261 a 2022 CNG peterbilt 520 amrep hardox ASL is a regular truck for Camarillo now they have a second & third one they are getting ready.
Wow, what an absolute beauty of a rig! That background scenery is just fantastic, and the truck actually sounds quite good for being a newer truck! Interesting mods on this one, that's for sure! Now, I have a question about something related. I found out from Nick (Garbage Truck SPSL8) that you work for EJ Harrison now, and I'd like to ask you about a certain truck. The truck I'm referring to is truck 119, named Katie, the 1992 WhiteGMC Amrep Octo front loader with the L10 Cummins engine. Is Katie still sitting in the yard, being used as a spare, or is she retired and scrapped? If she's still in the yard, would you be willing to take her out and film a super long in-cab driving video with the windows down? Katie has an amazing sounding growling exhaust, and I really want to hear it running up and down through the gears, cruising, all that stuff, since she has the Allison HT740 automatic transmission in her! If you can do it, please make sure there is plenty of city and highway driving, as well as some collections of dumpsters, and make sure to start the video off with Katie's L10 cranking up at the yard. In other words, I'd like a super long ASMR in-cab video of Katie, so when I'm listening/watching it, I can pretend I'm taking Katie out on a run. I'd like it to be as long as possible. Please write back and let me know what you can do for me ASAP, I want my video request on Katie before she is gone!
About as modern as you get with an Xpeditor Octo combo. Enjoyed very much.

Sharp looking combo
Great footage here, one very odd looking combo and I hope they do more as opposed to buying more Pete FL’s. Some really beautiful scenery in here too, glad it’s out here as opposed to just dumping cans behind supermarkets or something like that. Man that description was something else haha, I’m with Aaron that it probably would have been a nice touch to add some footage of the lady in the golf cart.
I would hope so too, but I also hope its a while before a new batch comes in as they still have some really cool old diesels at the moment. Probably won't last much past the end of this year though so it will be interesting to see what gets rebodied. I know they have some old 320 Pete Octo FLs that would be cool to see on 520s.
And yeah, I don't recommend filming at campgrounds in the middle of nowhere. You might get an angry mountain lady concerned about you camping there without a permit.

Heads up EJ Harrison is reboding another truck soon sense they retire their first Volvo truck 209 but they are going to rebody 209 amrep octo ASL body on a brand new truck the only issue is my trash driver said it's rumor that the company is going to covert the brand new truck to CNG other than that it's unclear what the truck is going to be or when it's going to show up to knowing who it's going to other than it's going to be a regular truck so I thought I let you know about that.

Well you were right about EJ Harrison retiring front loaders soon Well they will be retiring the spare Volvo front loaders 101 & 103 soon because their engines are dying they said. Also EJ Harrison ordered four more brand new trucks so there will be 16 trucks of a total for side loaders & front loaders sense they already retire all of their much older roll-offs last year they said.
What about 119 and AR1? And then are they keeping all the Volvo ASLs
@@socalgarbagetrucks2585 sadly no cause they already retire their first Volvo ASL the spare 209 so only 7 are left 201,202,203,204,205,208 & 237 so far 119 & AR1 are still around going out as spares but knowing that could change sense they ordered 16 brand new trucks so keeps bothering me what trucks are they going to be retiring soon sense I only got answers that they are going to retire 101,103,221 soon other trucks I don't answers on sense it's always slow getting answers from EJ Harrison.
@@socalgarbagetrucks2585 Well bad news they retire another Volvo ASL 201 the only good news is they will be reboding 201 amrep octo ASL body on a brand new truck soon. Also as for AR1 it's engine died three days ago on 6-22-22 to give you a heads up but hopefully they will be able to bring AR1 back but more than likely it wouldn't be a surprise AR1 is dead for good.

@@socalgarbagetrucks2585 that's great you saw David's old regular WhiteGMC ASL it's the closest oldest ASL that goes out sense 218 is still out of service they say 218 is supposed come back but I'm having a very hard time believing that really.

This truck definitely sounds like its powered by natural gas, yet there's no tank on the top of the body, so I bet it's probably either attached to the frame rails or built into the tailgate

Nice you were the second one to get EJ Harrison last truck they had rebody sense they haven't rebody any other trucks after 112. But I still think I like the old 112 the 1995 diesel peterbilt 310 amrep octo FL better but it least they kept 112 amrep octo FL body still by chance did you get packer shots sense just wondering if the packer blade is still the old style way still.
Thanks, yeah this has been on my list to film for a while now so I'm glad to have finally caught it. Any idea what their plan is for the other old diesel FLs? Looks like they're still running AR1 and 119 everyday, I wonder how much longer they have left.
@@socalgarbagetrucks2585 That I wonder myself for 119 the oldest diesel FL is slowly falling apart but it still sounds great & the other thing 119 tags will expire in October 2022 for 119 to be due for SMOG check & AR1 tags expire in December, 2022 but thankfully EJ Harrison been able to fix the Smoke problems 119 & AR1 sense the dumb State been try a few times to force EJ Harrison to retire 119 & AR1 for smoke problems but like I said thankfully EJ Harrison been doing a great job on fixing the smoke problems for 119 & AR1 to pass SMOG test.
