El Santo is everything Warrior wanted to be
- Viewed as a real life superhero by his fans
- So popular that jumped to comic books and movies
- Become a national icon and a household name around the world
The difference is that Santo was humble, hardworking and every person that worked with him praised him. Thinking about it, Warrior is Bizarro Santo
Excelente comparación.
I agree with everything here besides calling el Santo a household name around the world. Unless you live or grew up in Mexico, you’d have no idea who he was if you weren’t a wrestling fan. Only reason I know who he is is through wrestling. I would’ve never heard of him if not for his wrestling.
@@richardtherichard26 They referenced him in a Disney movie for chrissakes.
@@theoneandonlymichaelmccormick so what? Disney makes a lot of obscure references in their films. There’s entire videos about adult jokes in cartoons. Just bc it’s referenced doesn’t mean anyone watching knows what the reference is pertaining too. And what Disney film was this? Was it nacho libre? the one about wrestling? Bc if so, I’m not sure that refutes my opinion at all… regardless, el Santo isn’t a household name in the states. If you go ask 100 random people on the street who el santo is less than 10 of them know. Less than 10% isn’t a household name. You ask the same 100 people who the ultimate warrior is I guarantee you 75 of them know he’s a wrestler.
@@richardtherichard26 It was Coco, and a guy straight up just goes “El Santo! I’m a big fan, can I have a picture?” or something like that.
Also, I’m glad that this comment was important enough to respond to, but not in less than four weeks.
49:54 Warrior not knowing the difference between “your” and “you’re” immediately before a sarcastic “Einstein” burn.. beautiful

All these years I assumed destrucity must be some kind of play on “destruction”
No way in hell could I have ever guessed what it actually meant
I always thought it was a combination of words, but I assumed it was “destruction” and integrity”. That makes no sense, but it’s a hell of a lot more sensible that destiny and reality!
Jim Cornette’s interviews on the topic are always hilarious. According to him it was a combination of 3-4 different things, like dexterity, integrity, strength, and maybe something else. 😂
Cornette and JR both agreed that it’s incomprehensible mumbo jumbo and they just humored him so that he’d move on.

First time I heard the word destrucity was Cornette recalling his group meeting with Warrior. "Destiny, truth, and I don't know what the fuck city was"
The insulting the artists things was mind blowingly hysterical
And stingy! Considering how loaded Warrior was; and what he was payin them!!
And Hypocritical considering how he held up Vince and always demanded more money.

The cover is definitely full 90s Rob Liefeld style, you could easily confuse it with an Image comic on the shelf. Pin-up comics were another 90s staple as I remember, with Image definitely going further than Marvel, although not quite as far as yer man here FOKING Santa
Rob Liefeld art style is an American’s attempt at doing the JOJO’s Bizarre Adventure art style

I remember in Bret's book how Warrior left a terminal make a wish kid waiting for an entire show and then some, when it was the boy's dying wish to meet the Warrior. I'm glad you guys do such a masterful job of mocking him.
They're being released out of order! Since OOC was ill last month, and Xmas has a hard release date. I figured you'd rather have more content than waiting for stuff to be released in order. 104 = Firepower, 106 = Thunder after Blade Runners Nitro. Both coming in 2022!
@@OSW , That's great news!
Holy fuck the Warrior is so fucking crazy. Somehow these comics are making me realize it more than ever. Don't do drugs.
injecting HGH is a hell of a drug
Scary part is I don;t think it was the drugs he was just crazy guy....
There is a ton of great art made under the influence of, or inspired by, drugs. A few of those artists would probably be considered "crazy" too. So it's not drugs or insanity that makes ultimate warrior's comics suck. It's the fact that he's a totally self-obsessed, egomaniacal bore with zero talent who thinks he's more important and interesting than he really is. Let's not go pointing the dirty end of the stick at drugs or insanity, lol...
Drugs (at least recreational drugs) had nothing to do with this. The man was just batshit crazy.
@@serotoninsyndrome Bang! Nail on the head. He believed his own gimmick, and his gimmick was just utter egomania with the other parts filled in with his stupid rambling and attempts at sounding deep, but really was as deep as his move set.
For all his wrestling lows having a moan about a guy with cancer is for sure the lowest.
Wouldn't be his only time that he took a shot at someone with cancer. He even had a crack at Bobby Heenan while he was dying of throat cancer, in a way that was so vile that I'm not gonna write it. Warrior had a sick mind.
I think he actually said "chemo patient". Which might sound like the same thing at 1st; but chemo treatment's a personal choice, whereas cancer/illness is not.
@@anglefan85 I remember that, it was despicable. I could never understand why anyone would publicly admit to being a Warrior fan after that.
@@neilsun2521 I'm not sure I would consider chemo a "choice" when the most likely alternative for most who undergo it would be an agonizing death, as someone who has experienced the effects of cancer on those in his close family several times. And doing the mental gymnastics to imply that Warrior was doing anything BUT intentionally berating someone with cancer is just being woefully obtuse.
@@anglefan85 Warrior said something about how Heenan had limited time on this earth because of his evilness or some shit
Warrior ended up dying before Heenan did
Bischoff has recently said that during his meeting with Warrior prior to the WCW deal, Warrior handed him a book the size of a telephone book full of hand written notes and ideas for movies, cartoons, toys and "little warriors".
So apparently when he was negotiating with WCW he kept talking to Bisch about the comic and his future plans for it. Somehow Easy E managed to sign him without continuing this.... be thankful lads!
Parts unknown is supposed to insinuate that the wrestler either has mysterious origins and they don’t know where he’s from or he simply didn’t provide where he was from to the announcer.
Me reading the Warrior Christmas comic:
“Th- there’s no words on it. There’s no words there!”
Where we're going... we don't need... words.
Jim Hellwig was obviously nuts, but that 80s promo package got me hyped, to be honest. 😆
What’s hilarious about this,is that even though it feels like the warrior wrote it,because it’s a comic book, it also feels like Frank miller wrote this in 2013
The decent of Hellwig's mind was definitely astounding to witness in childhood. Especially when the internet started to become big.
It was never decent...indecent, perhaps 😅
wrestlecrap is where i first saw this comic.
Descent
Reading Warrior's writing is like looking at one of those pictures that represent what it's like having a stroke.
It's like reading someone's interpretation of a fever dream they had while the had a bad case of the flu.
As a comic artist myself, the Warrior is over. It’s very rare in the industry where you have books that are published insanity. This is what happens when you have no editor on your comic’s staff.
And it’s amazing.
As a wrestling and comic book fan...
Not once have I EVER thought about owning these, and now I cant think of anything else.
So V1 got Mickie, Jay got Bret.... OOC will get Virgil lol
The "Teach me how to Twitch" line was spooge-worthy 😂
He got Sexy Lexy if you watch the latest Christmas episode to the end.
The editing and cropping of the images to make this digestible for the viewers is fucking incredible lads 👌👏👏👏
Hey thanks for the kind words bruddah! I didn't wanna just do the simple pan & zoom, ended up getting 7 different video editors on board working on each section separately to pull it off! Appreciate ya brah
Various comics do special PIN-UP editions of certain books. Just the art, no text...They usually coincide with an even or holiday. Marvel's Swimsuit Special was one of the more popular Pin-up editions of a comic that sold pretty well.... dunno if they still do it, but they were super popular in the 90s
Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti, who did the cover of the Christmas issue, have real comics careers. They oversaw a line of comics at Marvel called Marvel Knights that revitalised a bunch of characters including Daredevil and Black Panther. Quesada eventually became Editor in Chief of Marvel, and Palmiotti is mostly a writer these days including a long spell writing Harley Quinn at DC.
I think Mervel dropped the ball letting those loose on the X TITLES ...
ONE WORD: MARROW.....
case closed.....
Oh yeah,.....noooooo Joe.....
AND NOW YOU KNOW!
GI NO!......
Jimmy Palmiotti working on an Ultimate Warrior comic is amazing to me. I know it was just a one-off splash page but that's like the equivalent of Salvador Dali doing furry commissions on Fiverr.
@@planetschlock Honestly highly regarded artists doing commissions for cash on the down low sounds like the thing that would have happened in the day and is likely happening as we speak.
Lord knows I've seen some fan and amateur(?) art that's made me go "You need to be in somebody's studio yesterday, damn..."
@@andrejg4136 Yeah, come to think of it, there's probably even more money in it today than there was decades ago. Online commissions now seem like the logical progression for comic book artists who would often supplement their income doing quickie sketches at conventions.
It's magic, he doesn't have to explain it
Anyone remember Warrior's old webpage from early 2000's? He had a lot of words (can't call them articles) about his philosophy. He also sold an audio cassette with workout motivation for an expensive cost. Wish it was still up, gives a better look into the guy.
Oh his horribleness is all over youtube
Warrior really began to branch two niches together. He was still a huge star at the time and it really was a pretty good idea to try to expand his brand.
True.
Sadly Warrior never had the talent or temperament to make it work.
Crazy that Helwig would out himself as a borderline sociopath and narcissist with these comics and think it'd be the beginning of his media empire. O_o
If everyone hadn't helped build Warrior up into being a main eventer, then he'd have just been another Warlord, Dino Bravo or 'insert generic burly muscle guy here'... So the lack of self-awareness he had in regards to who made him is quite hilarious and startlingly narcissistic when taken with everything else he says here. He successfuly ran with the oppurtunities he was given. He didn't buy a ticket to a show to jump the barricade and run into the ring to do a test-of-strength on Hogan while Vince's eyes shot out of his head like a cartoon and all the wrestlers said "wow, look that this guy! He's so cool!"... though Hellwig seemingly saw it that way. :P
It's honestly incredible. He shows himself heroically leaving people to die in a plane crash and he's like "yes, this is what will make me the new Superman"
Should have aimed higher.
Dino was actually a big name in a small town in Canada with a sad ending and could wrestle. Warlord also could wrestle and they don’t deserve to be in the same comment with whatever garbage warrior is spewing
14:20 The ways you add motion to the scene while the discussion about the panels is going on is just incredible! I've never seen that before!
Thank u my dude! I had EIGHT different editors work on the video to get it how it looks! That bit was by MrNiesGuy, I shall hotdog in his stead 😃🌭 _Skronk!_
8 editors? Man, this level of dedication is different gravy.

"BRET!!! I'M FOKED!!!!"
If you gave me infinite guesses at what destrucity meant I NEVER would have guessed that it's a portmanteau of destiny, truce, and reality.
Classic Warrior pretentious bullshit
Where Warrior failed in making destrucity a thing, Deadlock thrived.
And that’s for Destrucity.
Even though I'm not a big comic book guy, I always kinda wanted to read these and see what the heck they were about. So Warrior's philosophy, as far as I can figure out, at least, is like this weird mix of Buddhism and Ayn Rand. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but that wasn't it!
I was shocked to discover this wasn’t on Image. The art style is so Liefield.
Yes, it’s peak X-Factor / 90’s Image art… I thought RL was the only artist with that particular muscle-porn style.
The feet were to good to be Liefeld.
@@King4sshole89 Yea, in the fact he drew the feet... and not, ya know, just tapered off the legs into points 🤣
This is to comics what "The Room" is to movies. Much like Warrior giving out to everybody he had to deal with in his wrestling career, Tommy Wiseau used his movie as way to give out to unfaithful partners. If you remember from "The Room" review, Wiseau based it on his own cheating fiancee and how the whole movie made it clear he never got over it. He made his character look like a paragon of virtue while the supporting cast were all portrayed negatively.
Except Warrior failed in these comics to properly portray his character in a positive way. He went on and on about how the Ultimate Warrior is a superhero. But he obviously doesn't understand the nature of a superhero. A superhero, for the most part, is one who is willing to put others before himself. And to ask for help from others is not a sign of weakness. To ask for help takes great courage and strength and there's no shame in asking for a helping hand from time to time. So even in trying to put himself over as a positive force for good, he fails at that.
Lastly, not only did he rip off He-Man and Thundercats, but I sense a Maxx vibe as well. If you're not aware of the Maxx, it was a comic book by Image Comics back in the mid-90s. The comic tells the adventures of the titular hero in two worlds: the real world and an alternate reality known as the Outback. In the real world, he's a vagrant whose only friend is a freelance social worker named Julie Winters. But in the Outback, he's a superhero and protector of Julie's doppleganger known as the Jungle Queen. The comic was also adapted into a TV show on MTV.
There was something there that could've been done to make the Ultimate Warrior a comic book superhero. But it failed because once again, Warrior proved to be his own worst enemy.
to be fair to the Warrior the ones who probably "borrowed" from other comics are probably the artists themselves, unless the Warrior was the one who guided the entire process
Holy crap is that ever overselling the entertainment value of these things...they look grim 😅
@@gst013 You're right about that. At least "The Room" had some entertainment value. These comics are dogshit.

"Sorry I don't have hair and makeup."
Homegirl looks A-Ok, da fuck?
Warrior says that his character is meant to be a real life superhero, but I'm pretty sure that he doesn't really know what a superhero is. Not people who have amazing abilities and uses them to improve society, but a bunch superpower slapnuts who are above everyone and the law.
Ha ha! Yes, "hero" in a very loose definition. The type of hero that would not use his superpowers to pull you from the wreckage of a burning plane & let u burn to death, because asking for help is weakness!
Warrior would watch The Boys or Invincible and be cheering for the villains.
Dear Lord, that man was a basket case. That 3 and a half pages of hatred for a cancer patient because he became to sick to draw for him?!
I remember back in the early 2000's, Warrior having petty fights with various websites. In fact something awful still have up the chain email back and fourth from 2005 stemming from them linking warriors homepage to their 'Awful Link of the day' 😂😂
God I miss those old internet days, that and SA providing laughs.

Spending another Christmas with the lads of OSW. Also a big mark out moment since the Ultimate Warrior Comic review crossover with Linkara and Spoony takes me back
I have been preaching the ways of Destrucity ever since I saw that
*Sigh* I miss Spoony.
Im realizing that if The Warrior didnt shout, like he did on that initial WCW promo, but actually had enough self awareness to see that hes actually a heel not a hero.... He coulda been almost like a DKR Bane

Wow I had no idea the whole comic series was based around "Destrucity" !! I always assumed it was just a random one-off word he included in it
These guys did a better job with The Warrior comic than Linkara.
they had more time and are more knowledgeable about the details of the wrestling side. Linkara was more focused on the sequential storytelling, the art, and all in all the comic side.
@@CapitalExpression Also he had only been doing video reviews for under 2 years, had to do a lot of filming and writing in a rushed manner to fit into a con schedule, and that was about 15 years ago. These guys have been doing this for over a decade, and have probably a couple decades life experience over Linkara at the time.
Worth also mentioning it was a collaboration with Spoony, though that wasn't a negative.
@Chris Lauderdale But Linkara never rushes video. He always gives disclaimers that it will be out when its out and be released when its out. But great work ethic.

The real-world imaginary-world duality of this story reminds me a LOT of "The Maxx"
Except while weird, it was enjoyable.
The Maxx was super underrated I kinda wish that would come back
Yeah, the Maxx had some actual talent.

So what is Warrior's stand ? or is he a Hamon user ?
I’ll never forget the first time I heard of this comic the Linkara and Spoony crossover. God that has to be more than a decade old at this point.

Due to the Benoit Incident, Vince's Million Dollar Mania, and the Guest Host Era, I stopped watching WWE for about a year, but Spoony and Linkara's review of the Warrior comic got me back into wrestling again. It feels nice seeing other people take the piss out of it.
