- Persian wheel method of irrigation is also known as water wheel irrigation system. This traditional old Water Wheel ( rueda persa) technology is still in practice in different parts of Punjab, Pakistan.
Traditional Rahat Irrigation Method was very common in India, Iran, Afghanistan and in other asian countries in the past.
Now water lifting technology is disappearing day by day but still many farmers in punjab, khyber pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Balochistan of Pakistan and Rajasthan, Gujrat Punjab, Haryana, Utter pardesh and many other parts of India are getting benefits from it.
Bulls play very important role in this method of irrigation. Oxen or bulls pull up water from a well or other such source to irrigate the land. Farmers use a large wheel and tie it above the water source or well. Bulls or cows move the wheel and fetch the water up. These methods are known with different names in different areas as water wheel, persian wheel, hydro irrigation, moat, dhekli, rahat or jhatta in Pakistan, India and other parts of the world.
