Yes. You have to remember that he didn’t have to bet on the opponent to throw games. All he had to do was be in debt huge to folks who knew this and who told him that if they didn’t lose that night the secret was coming out. That’s why it affects the games integrity.

And he only ever admitted he bet on baseball in ANY capacity, FOR HIS BOOK AND BOOK SALES, and not because of any other reason.
What Pete did was DESPCABLE. He very well may have bet against his teams as a manager for all we know, because hes lied over and over again when decribing his actions. Everyone that says that "Charlie Hustle" would NEVER bet against his own team, doesnt understand how deeply into gambling Pete was, with some SHADY characters, and if you think that him making a slight change as a manager, on a stupid and basically meaningless Reds game on a Tuesday night, to recoup a lot of money he lost, are naive. He claimed he bet on the Reds EVERY night (to try and disprove that he didn't set up his betting nights by resting players or the bullpen or not bet on certain pitchers). This of course was proven untrue since he didn't bet on the Reds every night. He then claims that what he did wasn't as bad as steroids or being an abuser of drugs, or of his wife or some other comparison which is just him trying to make the listener look "over there" instead of at him, and he also does it like that because he still believes he didn't do anything wrong. Its expressly forbidden. The Black Sox scandal nearly destroyed baseball so I understand why violations must be punished severely. However, there are murderers who have served less time than Rose. Its time for MLB to simply say Rose has served his time and his sentence is over.

It still undermines the integrity of the game. Think about it like this. He bet on his team to win as a player/manager. Now, suppose his team is playing in a close game he has bet on. In order to ensure he wins that game and doesn’t lose any money, he decides to burn through his bullpen, completely screwing the team for the next game that he hasn’t bet on. Or, imagine somebody is aware of his betting and decides to blackmail him, saying “if you don’t lose the next one, I’m going public”. There are multiple scenarios like that. Him betting on his team to win means he had faith in his club, but it doesn’t mean that the betting is harmless.

  • @whenvioletsturngrey9597

Politics. Pete Rose is a baseball Giant. Tell us why you really won’t let him in, or drop this nonsense & let him be a part of the game, again. It’ll be good for the game. It can generate revenue. Isn’t that what you want, anyway?
