      @@225maine For sure. I guess my point is that rules are guidelines and my post was the same. Nothing in the world of audio should be set in stone if what you make is what you wanted to make.
      Obviously smashing a compressor and maximizer too hard for most genres doesn't work but does work great for stuff like dubstep, but doing it to classical doesn't work at all. I guess it's all about what sound you want as music and audio is very subjective to many things :)

It’s absolutely incredible when you think about it. There’s so much going on under the hood, yet the interface remains clean, uncluttered and fast.

    Why is it that every time I think I got most of Pro-Q3 covered, someone comes along and shows me even more 'hidden' features... I knew about using the dynamic EQ to expand instead of compress. came across it by accident, simply when I turned that ring the other way thinking 'what does that do...'. But how it adjusts to different input levels, I just wasn't aware of it. I thought it always 'just worked fine'. Sure, there are other great EQ's out there. Toneboosters EQ4, Hornet Total EQ, I mean you can't go wrong with those, can you? And yeah, they are much less expensive than Fabfilter Pro-Q3. But since I have Pro-Q3, I get happier and happier about it.

      what's the difference between dynamic EQ and MB ?

    • @jackflynn-oakley1937
      @jackflynn-oakley1937 Před 2 lety +1

      @@Renaxelo just eq vs compression there isn’t really a ‘difference’ per say as they’re just reducing volume relative to an input signal, though I think it speaks volumes that Pro-Q doesn’t have attack, release, knee settings etc, it would practically make Pro-MB obsolete if it did

    • @jackflynn-oakley1937
      @jackflynn-oakley1937 Před 2 lety +1

      Whilst I’m on a rant, in relation to Pro-MB, why is it in percentages as opposed to milliseconds? I can appreciate having both, but just percentages makes no sense to me... My attack being 17% is futile information, 17% of what?

    • @KOjoe1k67
      @KOjoe1k67 Před 2 lety

      @@jackflynn-oakley1937 As far as i understand, it was wisely considered by FF, and actually makes lot of sense. Why ? Well, my comprehension is that Pro-MB intelligently adapts the attack time to your signal (it's "content aware" and/or "intelligent" if you will), and it's doing that amazing thing behind the scene while still letting you have some control on the attack time. That's neat imo. IE: If you set 17% attack on Pro-MB, it's NOT gonna result in the exact same millisecondes amount each time you set it up that way. That's why in that context, it does make a lot of sense to speak % instead of milliseconds. Very wise choice imo.
      In a similar fashion, when you switch on the "quick attack" button on Waves last SSL emulation, it does set up a different quickish attack time automatically, depending of what you are feeding the plugin with. It's "content aware" and/or "intelligent" as well. That's well done i must say, this is sounding good. BUT it doesn't let you have that extra way of controlling what it does to your signal, like Pro-MB does. (It's Waves SSL Eve2 or something like that. I suggest you check out Dan Worrall's last video about it, even if you don't use Waves at all. I myself most likely won't buy any Waves product anymore or even bother trying them, but this video was still a very nice and informative experience for me). Go for it! Dan Worrall is the King of plugin reviews (and more!). There is absolutely not questioning about that fact anywhere, so far. His videos speak for him. You have to be quite interested about audio engineering for fully appreciating his work, but i'm sure you are :)
