"Sandstorm by Darude (Dan Worrall Remix)"
YES! 😂👍
Dan is unbeatable. It’s just the way he conveys everything that keeps me so f*cking interesting
You're interesting af it's true thanks dan
He keeps you interested. But I don't think Dan has anything to do on how interesting you are. :-)
settle down
This completely blew my mind. I have been using Pro-Q3 all wrong!
Most important lesson in mixing. Practice vs performance. We all need to continually remind ourselves this rule.
Not just mixing. That applies to almost any skill training, whether it's a computer skill, art, sport or language.
Damn straight. What sounds good VS what we get taught is a very different thing. It doesn't matter how you get there, it's the end result that matters.
Break every rule and bypass all you know to make something sound good.
I've had so little time in my life to enjoy making music but this is something I love by.
Your ears are the best tool you have, not someone else's.
@@UncleMarty there's always some rules to go by if you're looking for a certain sound/outcome.
@@225maine For sure. I guess my point is that rules are guidelines and my post was the same. Nothing in the world of audio should be set in stone if what you make is what you wanted to make.
Obviously smashing a compressor and maximizer too hard for most genres doesn't work but does work great for stuff like dubstep, but doing it to classical doesn't work at all. I guess it's all about what sound you want as music and audio is very subjective to many things :)
@@UncleMarty that's true..I completely agree with that! Go with the sound that you want 💪💪💯
More evidence that Pro Q3 is just hands down one of the most useful, well designed pieces of software in music making. The gain compensating sorcery is something I had no idea about. It’s absolutely incredible when you think about it. There’s so much going on under the hood, yet the interface remains clean, uncluttered and fast.
This is truly a love letter to Pro-Q3
The way Dan thinks about audio is inspiring!
Why is it that every time I think I got most of Pro-Q3 covered, someone comes along and shows me even more 'hidden' features... I knew about using the dynamic EQ to expand instead of compress. came across it by accident, simply when I turned that ring the other way thinking 'what does that do...'. But how it adjusts to different input levels, I just wasn't aware of it. I thought it always 'just worked fine'. Sure, there are other great EQ's out there. Toneboosters EQ4, Hornet Total EQ, I mean you can't go wrong with those, can you? And yeah, they are much less expensive than Fabfilter Pro-Q3. But since I have Pro-Q3, I get happier and happier about it.
Sandstorm by Darude - Dan Worrall Remix 😀😀😀😀😀
Happy to see you back here next week Wytse!
But all your guests did a fantastic job really! 😊
For a second I was disappointed that there was no “Sandstorm” in this video, then I heard the heavenly Worrall call.
EDIT : Sandstorm is back at 3:24, life’s good again.
EDIT 2 : Using pro q3 as a dynamic expander !! Hadn’t thought of that, brilliant.
everybody knows the artistic name of Dan is Darude
See also TokyoDawn Nova…
hahaha loooove how this guy so eloquently and so diplomatically set the record straight on how proQ3 is waaaaaaaaaaay better than waves f6
At literally 6x the price, it better be...
I had to look it up to be sure but:
In Australian and British English, 'practise' is the verb and 'practice' is the noun. In American English, 'practice' is both the verb and the noun.
This is like a Christmas-birthday-who knows what kind of gift. Thanks
Another benefit of the auto threshold functionality is for live use, where you can set up your eq and dynamic behavior, and it will remain consistent even when guitar player turns up. That's just awesome.
Very good🙏🏿
I never saw the point in dynamic EQ until Streaky and Dan started showing all these mastering applications. :)
It gets addictive - I sometimes have to stop and ask myself if a particular band needs to be dynamic!
My brain is melting...🏃🏃🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
Guy sounds like the Gordon Ramsay of music minus the swearing. Love the way he presents ❤️
The fabfilter plug-ins are indeed on a supremacy level. Lately I discovered the magical sound of PRO-C on a vocal by over-compressing it (20db of GR, the ratio set high, quick attack and quick release), and I was stunned. The vocal sounded so expensive in quality to the extent that I thought I was dreaming...
That sounds like you're killing the vocal?
@@ostrol1590 a lot of modern vocals are heavily compressed or limited
@@jdnd2023 20db GR tho? Maybe parallel?
@@ostrol1590 just try it by yourself and comeback to me
Depends on the genre and track, I guess. What kind of music are we talking about? Psytrance, rock or folk ?😊
Yep, this is one of those videos that is gonna change how I mix forever
This collab makes me happy.
This is easily the best audio engineering CZcams in the world.
Wow... having Dan Worrall as the "act you need to follow" with your project revelation - it must be amazing!
Dan's content is addictive, to say the least. I literally bought Pro-Q3 after watching one of his videos! It's just straight-up nice to have someone of his level do this kind of things!
I just cant believe this dan + white sea is this a dream?
ProQ3 is such a weapon. Desert island plugin
"...Signed, with love. Yours truly, Dan."
The best love letter to the Pro-Q I've ever seen. Great job as always Dan.
Wow! Dan as a guest host. What a treat! I also LOVE the dynamic EQ setting on Q3. I use that with the side chain option more often than SC compression. Such a great feature from one of the greatest companies in the business!
what's the difference between dynamic EQ and MB ?
@@Renaxelo just eq vs compression there isn’t really a ‘difference’ per say as they’re just reducing volume relative to an input signal, though I think it speaks volumes that Pro-Q doesn’t have attack, release, knee settings etc, it would practically make Pro-MB obsolete if it did
Whilst I’m on a rant, in relation to Pro-MB, why is it in percentages as opposed to milliseconds? I can appreciate having both, but just percentages makes no sense to me... My attack being 17% is futile information, 17% of what?
@@jackflynn-oakley1937 As far as i understand, it was wisely considered by FF, and actually makes lot of sense. Why ? Well, my comprehension is that Pro-MB intelligently adapts the attack time to your signal (it's "content aware" and/or "intelligent" if you will), and it's doing that amazing thing behind the scene while still letting you have some control on the attack time. That's neat imo. IE: If you set 17% attack on Pro-MB, it's NOT gonna result in the exact same millisecondes amount each time you set it up that way. That's why in that context, it does make a lot of sense to speak % instead of milliseconds. Very wise choice imo.
In a similar fashion, when you switch on the "quick attack" button on Waves last SSL emulation, it does set up a different quickish attack time automatically, depending of what you are feeding the plugin with. It's "content aware" and/or "intelligent" as well. That's well done i must say, this is sounding good. BUT it doesn't let you have that extra way of controlling what it does to your signal, like Pro-MB does. (It's Waves SSL Eve2 or something like that. I suggest you check out Dan Worrall's last video about it, even if you don't use Waves at all. I myself most likely won't buy any Waves product anymore or even bother trying them, but this video was still a very nice and informative experience for me). Go for it! Dan Worrall is the King of plugin reviews (and more!). There is absolutely not questioning about that fact anywhere, so far. His videos speak for him. You have to be quite interested about audio engineering for fully appreciating his work, but i'm sure you are :)
I aint gonna lie, I learnt alot in this video, that is why I am already subscribed to Dan Worrall's channel, he needs more subscribers.
Haha did not expect this. Worrall is the king of audio engineering on CZcams
9:10 "What kind of sorcery is this?" -Dan
I love this channel but Dan is my favourite audio CZcamsr he is just perfect at explaining most concepts and there is just enough wisdom to always inspire you thank you for having him on your channel
I'm blessed for having the opportunity to watching some real engineers like you and get the best advices. I love you and this community ❤
I love the idea of moving the center frequency of a high-shelf all the way down and making a wide-band compressor. That's the way to probe and elucidate the capabilities of a plugin! Thanks!
i think that would cost some radio stations out there much less then the big racks they driven
I'm seriously loving all the Dan Worrall on CZcams recently, didn't expect him here!
Dan!!! I honestly thought I was just going to watch a Dan Worrall video and then Wytse showed up. 😂
Dan is an audio DON
Whitesy and Dan in de same room??? I died and went to mixer heaven.
Amazed that you managed to make such an engaging video about proQ3 Dan; even though its already been out for so long. Seems I have sooo much more to learn - many thanks
Dan as a guest wow! Awesome!
I'm sorry it's taken me almost a year to watch this video. Phenomenal job by all, thank you so much.
Makes my heart happy to see this colab. More please.
That ott preset is legit one of the first things I would make with pro q 3
dan worral is in my opinion the god of sound much love to dan
similarly with Voxengo TEOTE, its adjustments work regardless of the input signal level, its magick
Dan the man is everywhere on youtube nowadays!!
I do wish Pro-Q3 had timing controls. Kind of the only EQ/Dyn processor I'd ever need
Newfangled Audio's Elevate has the best transient processor that i ever used, i would like if the next Pro Q EQ can handle transients.
@@saricubra2867 I love Elevate. I prefer spiff for transients tho.
@@styzr I like it so much minus the lack of a "single band" mode. In my opinion a huge oversight.
Just started watching Dan's tutorials recently, as many as I can digest. Still a mature student of the mixing process I am learning the jargon daily and details Ive overlooked, so thanks for showcasing Dans tutorials
I thought this was a video from my sub to Dan! Really glad to see the collaboration so soon! Big fan of you both!
Dan is son damn good..... Loved this cameo.
Very cool extra "one knob compressor" feature! Thanks for sharing
Every single sentence out of Dan, is pure wisdom!
If you look up the definition of the word "concise" in the dictionary it links you to Dan Worrall's CZcams channel. No waste of words, nothing superfluous or unnecessary. The man is gold.
Great work! Loved the video and explanations!
Great collab and Dan's explanation is marvelous. Thanks!
If you happen to have Cubase Pro 11 it comes with a powerful dynamic EQ in Frequency 2 plugin, many don't even know about it
Lovely presentation thank you both!
I actually went back through my plugins and deleted all the other eqs I have. fab filter 3 is literally a beast
Finally some quality plugin analysis on this channel… take notes on how it's done proper!
These crossovers have been outstanding!!! Can't wait to see what you've been working on!
Great info Dan! Thanks Wytse for having Dan as a guest.
If been waiting for a micro-dynamic compressor for years and did not know that I already have it at my disposal hidden in a dynamic EQ. Thanks for enlightening us! Very much appreciated!
thank you both!
Congratulations . Great tutorial 😎🔥
Wow .....this was a much better buy than I could have imagined ...Thank You!
Absolutely love the collaboration-- also, got a lot from the video as usual-- thanks!
Best motivational speech on mixing I heard in a while ! Thank you Dan!
Mind blowing. All of it. Worth watching it a few times and try things in Q3 after that. Thanks to you both!
Great video!
This was a great video!
impressive review... Dan is the man!
This is GOLD ❤️
Excellent...many great points made...
Awesome video. Thanks.
oh, so cool dan is your guest.
and again a great input from dan!
A most brilliant video. Thank you!!
OMFG! white sea + mr worrall!?!?
Awesome, perhaps the only other person I've heard say there's time for creating and a time for practice. Organisation is another, don't fanny around tidying things up when the juices are flowing... but always make sure things are tidy, just do it at the right time, like creating and practice.
Compression and equalizing taken serious. Thanks a lot for this nice episode
Dan is ze best 🙏🏼😍 i almost get tears in my eye’s over him compressing audio
LOVE THIS MAN AND HIS ENERGY, HE SPEAKS WITH CONVICTION... PLUS HE CHOSE THE PERFECT MUSIC TO BRING IN HIS POINT!!!!
This video is the best yet for the channel. 🙌🏻 I’m going to practice this method with Pro Q 3 on my new mix. Thanks guys.
Excellent Video.
Lots of wise words in this video, thanks for showing!
Wowowowowowow. I didn’t even think of using proq this way. It’s f changing a lot in my brain in matter of minutes (: Thanks Dan and Wytse.
By far the best Video on this Channel. Dan is so knowledgeable. I watched everything from Dan like 10 times already and I still bring his videos up everytime a conversation comes
remotely close to a topic he discussed in a video.
Well I learned many things about a plugin I already love. Thx!!!
8:04 So true. I have to mix fast or I get bogged-down in the details and lose touch with the music. One thing that helped me is to execute arrangement decisions as part of tracking and editing before I bring the resulting WAV files into the mix session.
I'm so stoked there is an actually plug-in community out there!! Literally people whit expertise and who love the tools they work with!! Im in good company 👍🏽
Is there any way we can get some of the presets mentioned in the video? Love your channel
Following 👏
Wow, it truly is one of the most useful plugins out there.
Both of my favorites channel in one video
Big Respect to White Sea and Dan!!
I always thought that day would arise that Dan or u Whitey do a feature. Mesmerizing
Great advice from Dan. The section on mixing being iterative is critical stuff for newer engineers.
Amazing! Thanks
WHAT A GUEST DAMN
Fabfillter is fabulous.
If I had to choose only one plugin suite it would be fabfilter hands down. It does it all.
Yep. The best money I ever spent on software of any kind. I only occasionally use other plugins now and then always for specific purposes.
dan is amazing
Oh hell yes! I use dynamic mode regularly. Really tightens up the low end.
Love me some Dan.
Thanks
