As a kid/teen in the 80s, I never saw Cringer and Battlecat as two different personalities (minds/personas) in the same beastie. I saw Battlecat as Cringer getting infused with Greyskull's power that bolstered his more heroic side, and only not speaking because in those times he felt like speaking was not needed. He only changed because Greyskull's power added to him, not radically changing him... Adam changing the same way, but since Adam's personality was always more heroic, changing to He-Man made his personality change far more subtle. And yes, we spoke a lot about this at our lunch table during school because it was a wildly popular cartoon we all watched.
Cringer had became Battle Cat when Liono used The Sword of Omens on him in the HeMan/Thundercats Crossover comic when he and The Lord Of The Thundercats were in Mumm-Ra's Black Pyramid and did battle with the villains who were stealing Mumm-Ra's treasure! Battle Cat also had the iconic Thundercats Symbol on his chest! THUNDER! THUNDER! THUNDER! THUNDERCATS HO!!!

"Cringer is Adam's fearless friend and pet cat." Fearless? I'll admit I'm not into the new stuff. (I'm in my fourties, so I grew up with the original MotU.) But... FEARLESS?!?!? His very NAME means fearful.
Retcon and revisionist writing. OG Cringer, before being transformed into Battle Cat when Adam became He-Man, was his cringing cowardly cat that you remember. The revisions, retcons, re-imaginings, etc are far too unimaginative to consider that Greyskull's transforming energy added bravery and heroism to the personality of the individual transformed on top of the physical ones because Prince Adam was only subtly changed because he already somewhat was already the heroic type. You don't remember wrong, the cat wasn't misnamed, the new writers just didn't get it. We as KIDS, a generation ago, got it... and we were not mental giants and saw G. I. Joe as a "realistic" cartoon.
It's obvious that a computer voice tells the story, because it was not programmed to pronounce "gedge" (the monster) properly...also there are some inconsistencies with the "Battlecat" episode. It's before Orko arrived on Eternia, but Orko was there in time to rescue a young Prince Adam and Cringer from the tar swamp.
Cringers story in the 3d netflix he man is the best thing. He was the reason I continued to watch the series. He refuses to fight in Rakazz(beast man) pits against other tigers. So rakaz pulls his claws and breaks his teeth, and names him cringer. Also, he is like a father figure to Adam.
He was turned from cowardly comic relief to a real mentor he became pacifist who doesn’t like to kill for the sake of killing but if needs he’s ready to fight even untransformed.Inalso lovebhowvwise he is
Kinda wish David Kaye used a different voice for Cringer though. That's what sold the transformation in the original series. When he became Battlecat, his voice got a lot more fiercer and graveller to represent the heroic change in his personality. Since Kaye uses the same voice for both, it's not as well represented imo.
You could’ve covered the world of the early 90’s series. I’m confused as to why it is the only series missing from this video. it’s almost perfect 👍 (8 out of 10 is “Very Good”
