  • This is video taken of the great Tom Hazleton at a concert celebrating Independence Day on July 1, 2004, at a downtown piano store in Portland, Oregon.
Tom played on an Allen organ, and in this concert did the first public playing of a composition he was working on in directing music for the opera Madame Butterfly. (21:54)
As you can see the video is difficult between hand holding the camera and trying to get shots between the heads of people in front. However, the sound is pretty good, and it is good to see Tom and hear him talking. He died less than 2 years after this concert at the young age of 63 of a heart attack. He gave us sweet music, and he is missed.

What a originality in the playing of this man. In his arrangements and registrations. Fantastic!

Yes!!! So glad you enjoyed it despite the video problems. I treasure having been able to be at this concert and tell him that his playing and CDs had brought me much joy.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Thank you so much for posting this. I've been to many concerts like this over the years and this brought back many fond memories. Like many watching this, I even wanted to bop the head of the lady who kept moving her head back and forth, occasionally blocking the view. I felt like I was in the audience. It was great!

Thanks for the encouragement, Greg! I'm glad you were able to turn video lemons into lemonade. I felt the same way and grateful for what I got and can enjoy of Tom's fun personality and great artistry.
