@Hello There Yes, 3-2 vs Slovakia, in the last game. The game was a 2nd place decider, Italy having 2 points while Slovakia had just one.
New Zealand was in the mix as well after two 1-1 draws against Slovakia and Italy but they draw the last game as well, 0-0 against the group winners, Paraguay.
@Hello There But all started with France. They won the WC hosted by them in '98 but finished last in '02, a group that had Denmark, Uruguay and Senegal.
They lost the opening game against Senegal 1-0.
As a fun fact for you: France was the last team that won the WC and then qualified automatically for the next one.

NZ should have had two wins, it's a shame they didn't get to go as far as they did. The slovak goal was offsides and then the italy goal was on a stupid penalty. This team was surprisingly good in the world cup.

Italy penalty was correct given, but NZL should have 5 points and go trough to the last 16.

Thing is, had Slovakia not been a goal up, then NZ probably would have settled for a draw and Reid wouldn't have been up front in a last ditch attempt to grab an equaliser.

I don't understand why New Zealand Football federation limit themselves to one, two, or no games a year. This team have potential and they really lower themselves of chances to qualify for the FIFA world cup.

Lol, yeah imagine drawing New Zealand and losing to Paraguay and still ending up being one of the surprises of the tournament somehow.
Kind of reminds me a bit of when Uruguay lost their first game in 2014 to Costa Rica and I was like “okay, Uruguay is going out in the group stage” but then Costa Rica topped the group and Uruguay beat England and Italy to finish second lol.
