    Fluorescence makes the diamond look hazy in direct sunlight. The one with low or no fluorescence looks sharper and more sparkly. Just my observation.

  • @Neferatii
    @Neferatii Před 8 lety +9

    I was under the impression that flourescence did not affect the performance of a diamond (other than potentially causing haziness) however when you are showing them in direct sunlight the one with very strong flourescence really looks visibly different to the other. I mean it's still beautiful, but it isn't communicated enough that it does make a visible difference in certain lighting (not including UV lighting)

      +Kat Fanton Glad you seen this Kat and is the very reason I make the best attempts to capture it in HD. One one person may see as a non issue some might see AS an issue. I try to give enough detail to help you guys make a more intelligent choice. Thanks so much for your comment.

      The major difference IS the haziness in direct sunlight! The milky quality definitely reduces the fire and scintillation in this lighting, which is why the smaller stone was out-performing the larger stone with very strong fluorescence.

    • @MrsPaulaTorres
      @MrsPaulaTorres Před 2 lety +2

      It is ONLY on top 3 colors, and it’s hazy only in .2% of fluorescent diamonds, while 30% or all diamonds score this or that degree of fluorescence, buying a diamond with SOME color and medium fluorescence is the way to go to get the biggest brightest rock for the money. This diamond in the video has to be colorless to show “blurry” from VERY STRONG fluorescence, if it was an M color diamond the fluorescence would be Only positive and counteracting the yellow hue making it look just right xx

    It might be worthwhile to bring a pocket UV light while shopping for diamonds. Those halogen lights make almost anything look good. Sadly, the only diamond I ever got was a surprise gift. It wasn't big but had the right specs on paper. Despite having a good color, cut, and clarity, it is super hazy and has hardly any sparkle.....whaaaaaaa. On a positive note, it fluoresces a beautiful deep blue under UV light.

    Great video. I personally love flouro. In your experience how often do you say VSB get overgraded by GIA? So much stigma is associated with these diamonds, I think unfairly... But in most cases it looks like just another flavor, you either like it or you don't, just like people like fancy cuts or rounds....

    The milky/hazy quality of the fluorescence in direct sunlight decreases the sharp, fiery flashes seen in the smaller stone without fluorescence. If one could be certain that this is the ONLY lighting under which such a difference can be seen, then the greatly reduced price tag of a stone with strong fluorescence seems like a no-brainer...especially if you're a person who avoids direct sunlight at all costs, as I do...lol

      We have access to many diamonds that have Strong/Very Strong levels of florescence. They come in at all different price points primarily depending on the size, color, clarity, and cut grades of the diamonds. On average, I'd say they are about 10%-20% less in cost compared to diamonds without fluorescence. If you would like prices on a specific diamond with fluorescence, feel free to email sales@goodoldgold.com. Let us know the stats your looking for and from there, we'll get back to you with the and all. We hope to hear from you soon!

Had maybe quarter carat stud in 14k yellow gold didn't have many flaws to my eye but maybe it did to the pawn shop guy but he only gave me 40$ what u think it was worth? had great cut cause symmetry of the star in diamond was nice and had a lot of sparkle in sun

  • @junjiema345
    @junjiema345 Před 3 lety +1

    I found a 4.3ct, H, VS2 round diamond, but it has strong fluorescence, would it appear to be hazy or cloudy like the one you showed in the video under direct sunlight? And is it true that all fluorescence diamonds under direct sunlight will appear a bit cloudy? GIA conducted an experiment that said only less than 0.2% of the diamonds with strong or very strong fluorescence appear to be dull in color and appear to be hazy. So is this referring to under direct sunlight or even in daylight (indoor lighting environment)? Trying to decide whether a strong fluorescence diamond is worth the money or not. Thanks!

    • @DiamondInfoMan
      @DiamondInfoMan  Před 3 lety +3

      The 4.3ct you found could indeed appear hazy under direct sunlight although it's something you'd probably want to inspect in person in order to make that judgement.
      Most GIA diamonds on the market with fluorescence won't appear cloudy under direct sunlight, however the greater the intensity of fluorescence, the greater the chance it might have that cloudy effect. In rare cases however, even diamond with faint fluorescence can appear hazy, however that occurs in less than 2% of those diamonds.
      I'm not sure if GIA's assessment was conducted under outdoor or an indoor environment, but if I had to take a guess, I'd anticipate indoors. If you call their laboratory, they would probably be able to offer you the answer to that.
      Although I would not recommend you purchase a diamond blindly with fluorescence, I would advise that you ask the retailer ahead of time if the diamond they are selling meets any of your concerns. Some people also order the diamond online, inspect it in person, and return it if it's hazy (assuming the diamond has a reasonable return policy).
      I hope our feedback was of assistance and if there is anything we can do on our end to assist you in sourcing "your perfect" diamond, feel free to reach us at sales@goodoldgold.com as we should be able to compete or beat anyone's prices while matching apples to apples regarding quality!
      Sincerely, Matt

    I don’t understand why anyone would buy a diamond with fluorescence in it, diamonds are supposed to be pieces of carbon not carbon with all kinds of other elements in it specifically boron. I certainly hope that you are selling these diamonds with strong fluorescence at a significant discount.

    • @DiamondInfoMan
      @DiamondInfoMan  Před 2 lety +2

      You are correct in that if a colorless/near colorless diamond has strong fluorescence, we would indeed be offering it for less compared to a diamond with none-faint fluorescence. Sometimes we have customers who only want diamonds with fluorescence due to the savings attached to them. I guess in the end (similar to lab or earth grown), it comes down to personal preference..

    • @joeschmoe2624
      @joeschmoe2624 Před rokem +1

      If it’s not D color, it has a significant amount of nitrogen, which is making it yellow. If you want the most pure carbon diamond only, it would need to be a D color with zero fluorescence. Sure that sounds good and all, but good luck paying for that 😂
