      I would've left them alone. He may still have to move the engine, fore or aft!! Plus, this way if this engine ever needs to find its way into something else, or you need those (presumably) expensive parts for another project.. I like to hedge my bets with stuff like that. The extra length wasn't hurting anything, anyway.

    NGK spark plugs. It was funny, I installed Iridium NGK plugs in my 3.1 liter V6 Grand Prix I had, people called me stupid, said it would not run right and so on..... I installed the plugs, and it ran great. I trust NGK over pretty much all the other brands. Nice to see someone else installing NGK plugs into a GM engine :)
    Edit: Had to fix a typo.

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage Před 5 lety +1

      NGK copper is pretty much the plug of choice for all LS builds brother.
      TR6 for NA
      BR7ef for nitrous up to around a 250 shot, boost up to around 2bar
      BR8ef for larger nitrous and turbo applications.
      I stay away from Iridium for performance applications. Cant seem to get as much timing in without Knock retard. But great for low performance daily drivers where you dont want to change plugs but once a decade.

    • @Carstuff111
      @Carstuff111 Před 5 lety

      A good friend of mine had a 1997 Grand Prix GTP that he had modded heavily. For the longest time, he was going through plugs constantly, and he never could get his ignition timing to stay safe for extended periods of time... till I had him try NGK plugs. All the way up to around 550 wheel horsepower on E85, he finally had the ability to keep his timing and tune stable. He finally sold the car after being at around 550 for a good while because, in the end, it was not the engine, or even the transmission that let him down, it was the car's electrical system, he was tired of chasing down random faults. I miss that car, it was a blast. He was sad to sell it, his mom bought the car brand new in 1997, and it became his when he graduated high school. It was only a year after it became his, he started modding it.

    It's funny, seeing you work on the LS...while in the background, there's the AZ-1 with the engine cover open. Makes it look like...hmm...now THAT would be a serious project! :-D
    PS: Those valve covers look a little dull. Need some Crinkle Red. :-)

      That LS won't fit in the AZ-1 engine bay, but if I had an engine on rollers that close to the car, I couldn't resist checking to see if it might for in the combined driver+passenger area. Then we'd have room in the empty engine bay for the driver, and, and... No! Bad brain! Stop thinking about it! (Continues to think about it...)

      Talk to the guys over at BOM. If anyone can find a way to fit an LS into the 'Zam, it's those two muppets. :-D

    Looking good Tom! I added the trunnion upgrade but sadly my lifter failed and not only wiped a lobe on my cam and dropped needle bearings in my engine.
    I know there's probably a ton of LS tuners in your area but don't settle for anything but the best. Your wallet and Taco will thank you later.

    A great way to start my Saturday morning. I'm curious - when you have the time to respond. The time flies when watching them, but I realize an enormous amount of time goes into making them. Approximately how much editing time is involved in the production of a 20-minute video like this one.

    Tom...if ya wanna make life easier in yourself you can buy a plastic LS engine, yes plastic block and heads with threaded inserts for things like mounts, oil pan etc. great for testing fitting. You can basically put it in the truck and take it out by hand, fast.

    great video as always. one thing to be aware of is those CXracing mount bushings become VERY brittle over time. i have them on my LS 240sx and after a couple years and only taking them off a couple times the rubber disintegrates very bad. Overall the fitment of any CXR part is sloppy at best but its hard to argue with the adjustablility of those mounts.
