      I totally agree with you. Paedophiles/child molesters don't think they did anything wrong. They think children are "sexual beings" which is so sick I would rather they stay in jail until they die. Ditto serial killers. As for one-off murderers, they can give you all kinds of excuses as to why they never intended to kill their victim. But the truth is, they snuffed out someone's life and ruined the lives of that person's parents/wives/children/other loved ones. Either way, these are crimes whose perpetrators should never see the light of day.

      @@arjunsuresh4286 Not really! Jury's are not what you see on television. They do not get to see all the evidence, many times there are things that would give the Jury no choice but to convict but some lawyer argues that it clearly would prejudice the jury and it is not allowed to be seen by the Jury. It is the LAWYERS! I was lucky enough to attend a 2 year program to make me a Legal Assistant. The course is a modified law course taught by the same professors who teach law school, the books we studied from were the same books lawyers study and many of the courses were the same as taught in our sister college of law. So after 24 years as a street cop, I got to look at it from the other side. It was eye opening, I wish I had known when I was on the street, what I learned in college. It would have sure helped in preparing for court.

      A return to sentencing that includes the words "At HARD LABOR!" should slow the revolving door syndrome. Put them on the rock pile making little rocks out of big ones. If you happen to need rocks, we have a surplus here in the Dakota's! When I was a boy on the farm in the 60;s I spent many an hour walking beside a rock skid picking rocks from the fields before father would run his tractor and plow over the ground to break it for planting of wheat and oats. The rocks up here are mostly damn hard rocks to break, however there are some nice sandstone rocks that could be broken easily. Renting convicts to factories in need of laborers was also a thing in the South after the Civil War, made money for the County and provided cheap labor for industry. Here in my home town, we have a large park populated with spires and walls made of petrified rock the majority of the labor was furnished by convicts who were serving time in the City Jail mostly convicted of drunk and disorderly, back then a major problem in the city. They were supervised by one guard and the architect who designed the buildings and monuments. Still a great park to see, now additions are now built by skilled workmen with no jail time under their belts that we know of.

    Prison isn't a punishment or a deterrent. All it is is a change in an offender's way of life. A new lifestyle, though a restricted one, that they just adapt to. They make friends in prison and they enjoy themselves. And it's all paid for by us. Then some of them get released. You ask a released prisoner that's done a substantial stretch, they're often proud of their notoriety. Proud to say they've been in prison. Proud of the "status" they think it comes with. Rarely do they come out wholly reformed and almost never do they come out and transform their lives in a meaningful manner than benefits the community. They should be told they're gonna serve x amount of time, but then shot dead and disposed of on the day they set foot in prison.

They stay in prison for as long as their victim is dead!! We have the same problem here in America...life doesn't mean life. We are fighting to get that changed. Unbelievable. Will these parole boards ever learn? Some people are incorrigible. Keep them behind bars until they die.
    And they mention “adequate supervision.” How can anyone “adequately supervise” these men when the men are out of prison? Even an electronic ankle monitor isn’t foolproof, as people have been able to remove them, and as no one can be able to always reach a victim quickly enough to save the victim.

  • @thl205
    @thl205 Před rokem +4

    Regular reminder that parole is given out more widely than its original purpose, purely because of budget constraints. Despite mass overcrowding, no politician wants to invest taxpayer money in the justice system. So instead, criminals are released onto the street to make space for new arrivals. Since 2010, they’ve even cut funding for the probation service, so not even properly monitoring released prisoners 😮

    • @christinawells2024
      @christinawells2024 Před rokem +2

      The reason prisons are so overcrowded is because they are putting people there who aren’t a danger to society. Why does someone who gets caught with marijuana get 35 years in prison?? Or someone who doesn’t pay child support….or petty theft…there’s many crimes that don’t necessarily need a prison sentence. Prison should keep the people who are a danger to others out of society. There has to be another way to have people account for their crimes when they are non-violent or non-sexual offenders.

    I had to pause this documentary at several intervals because it is so triggering. As someone who has been stalked by an obsessive, controlling psychopath, I can deeply empathise with the victims and their families. My position is, far too many people who work in criminal law are dangerously ignorant of behavioural science. They have half-baked notions about "rehabilitation" (whatever that really means), and the capacity of the penal system to provide it, that are _not_ based in scientific evidence. They really don't understand people with personality disorders _at all._
    Many years ago, when I was dealing with the stalking matter, _my own legal representative_ said something along the lines of "...well, I'm sure he's also a tortured soul".
    WTF? _What_ f**king soul?! As Linda said of her attacker, "...there was nothin', there was just evil, dark eyes, you never really understand it until you look evil in the face."

What are they to say, yes? Hearing the children testify it sounds like the red flags where present and loud and clear way before. What a horrendous tragedy! All of these cases got extremely short sentences for brutal murders from the get go. I guess in the UK brutal murder will get you under 20 years for sure.
