  • Wyatt Knox, special projects director at the Team O'Neil Rally School, takes a look at driving scenes from a variety of television shows and movies and breaks down how accurate they really are. How did they make the bus jump off the bridge in Speed? Could they actually get to 88 miles-per-hour in a parking lot in Back to the Future? Can a sports car really drive through a building like in Furious 7?

As seen as soon as Gemini Man, when the physics of car/motorbike cg doesnt match, it looks beyond goofy.
Its cheaper, simpler, and overall looks better if you go practical with car stunts, most of the time.

Id like to see some discussion on car chases/real stunts such as: The Italian Job (the original), Gone is Sixty Seconds (the original), Bullitt, The Seven Ups, The French Connection, To Live and Die in LA, The Blues Brothers, Ronin, even Matrix Reloaded. The problem I have with modern chases like the Bourne series, Baby Driver and others, is all the quick jump cuts, closeups, cgi, shaky cam, tricks and cheats used to make the action seem more intense then just letting the action unfold in a long shot to see it play out. Real stunts real action.

My ex and a lot of his friends are/were drifters one of which happened to be the best in Australia and one of the best in the world. Going well over 200 km backwards into a corner and coming out entirely safe sound and at top speed is one of the most exhilarating things I’ve ever experienced. This having been often in an old Toyota Corolla aka a tin can or S13, S14 or very occasionally 15’s... if it was a hot day and your shoes souls were rubber you DID NOT want to put your feet on the floor as in order to go top speed and take a corner so tightly requires a vehicle to be as light as is humanly possible. Everything accept the absolute necessities in a car we’re removed.
I’ve also attended Matsuri in Japan’s (48 hr drift event) with some of the highest sponsored and most well known drifters in the world and trust me their cars DO NOT look anywhere near that fancy on the inside. Again they are stripped to bare minimum and made as light as possible to ensure the greatest amount of control over the vehicle.
Scariest thing I witnessed in Japan was children, toddlers etc. not strapped in at all and simply sitting on mum or dads lap whilst the car was being navigated around the most complicated and highest speed tracks. Terrifying!

Army veteran reacts to Military scenes (altough I do not know how possible this one is, given PTSD situations that some veterans might go through. Could be achieved through their consent I think)
Physicist react to Science and physics in movies.
Martial artist reacts to fight scenes
Historian reacts to Scenes in historical movies. (pretty vague, since an expert historian would probably cover a specific period rather than History as a whole, but would love to give it a look)
Pyrotechnics expert reacts to movie explosions
