Me three
ITV is still Central, to me. Back in the day, I think most people would use the two terms interchangeably. So the ITV name doesn't feel alien to me, but I still find myself occasionally calling it Central. It's a tricky one, because the Central name has never fully died out. It's continued use for regional news helps prevent me from coming to terms with the fact that the brand has otherwise long since been dropped. It always used to bemuse me, as a kid, when older folk would still call it ATV long after the name changed to Central. I'm now in that position, old habits die hard.
1:57 Even with the jingles of this Central logo, I think I'm about to get blinded by the moon's light...
Wish Itv would go back to it's regional franchises as this is when it was at it's best
E-M Entertainment No, ITV ( which stood for Independant Television) used to a network of regional stations across the United Kingdom, launching in 1955. Before then, there had only been 2 terrestrial channels broadcasting, BBC 1 and BBC 2. Each regional station had its only identity that would come up before the programmes it produced in other regions and its own on air symbol in the region it covered. There were startups in the morning as every region woke up for the day, usually at 9 am as before that it was a Breakfast Television franchise on ITV called TV Am which launched in competition with BBC Breakfast Time. This also had a startup around 6 am. A continuity announcer for each franchise station would announce the station and its broadcast transmitter locale over the intro. I don’t know what the US has, but I doubt it is anything like we had with ITV back then, @Andrew Jeff is right, ITV was great back then, now it’s just chav tv now.
In the usa the stations are member of the TV network. In the UK the stations was independient companies than produce his own programs and news. Operating only in the área than was licenced to them. And was regulated by the Independent Broadcasting Authority
@E-M Entertainment if you say "análogous" like old, I don't think so
@E-M Entertainment the way than the us companies works in the TV stations is very diferente to the UK way
@E-M Entertainment in usa the stations are affiliated to the companies
I’m sure there was an ident where the Channel 4 symbol would morph into the Central cake - used when they were promoting what was about to start on Channel 4. I haven’t seen footage of it anywhere!
I can't recall one quite like that, but I do know that there were a small number of animated sequences which crudely crowbarred the Channel 4 logo in. One was the cake flying into place towards the top left of the screen, with just a static 4 logo beneath it and the listings beside each. Another I can vaguely recall had a shadow of the 4 logo passing over an angled closeup of the cake. They certainly did incorporate the 4 logo into some of the Central sequences, but I don't recall one where the two logos literally morphed into one another. But, this is Central we're talking about so it wouldn't surprise me if they was a rogue one in existence somewhere among the hundreds of ident variations they produced. I don't think it's possible to have a definitive collection of every single one.
Maybe not the one you're thinking of, but I came across this clip from user 'tiacwot' - at 04mins 09 on the clip linked below there's a 4 logo stretching out to the Central cake. Not one I'd seen before. There's a couple of other examples on that user's channel, with the 4 logo hovering over the cake during the mid-1990s. czcams.com/video/XXYqqOInfCk/video.html
Damn I was especting something more impresive. Like the bars of the 4 logo be disarmed and the they will be fused into the cake or something. Lol
But is nice
@@jcagraphiclibrary that would've been awesome lol!

27:57. The Carlton virus strikes with a vengeance.
I agree
@Jayvee Calvo Cartlon owned Central in 1994. But that didn't stop Central cake exist, as this only cause the programs is different. In 1997, Central idents is replaced with Cartlon idents with only Cartlon name is replaced with Central (Cartlon made this happened, not Central).
I still have to th--- why centon ident exist.
Carlton Communications (as it then was) owned 20% since the late 1980's.
That's when the Central idents lost their identity ☹

16:38 Best Central logo ever
Ah, Nostalgia for a Midlander 😊 I did like the cake logo but I always preferred the jingles of the mid eighties
The rainbow ball version is REALLY good and stands the test of time; when I first saw that on the internet, I thought it was people making (really good) fake versions of the real rainbow ball logo... turns out to be the real thing!
No it's the Central Cake.
mmm lemme get some cake
I will eat it too.
love watching these types of vids and having a beer so awesome
21:43 I miss this so much.
4:10 That’s the definitive logo before the classic 80s Spitting Image!
The programme and the logo even shared the same typeface.
Yeah the original set of rainbow moon idents are still the best.

Yeah right
Central has made amazing themes and idents over the years (as shown in this video), but 11:42-11:56 and 11:57-12:13 are my personal favourites. That theme is a bop!
It was absolutely ridiculous how much money was spent on those logos. Every week they seemed to be a new one and half of them were absolute crap but somebody was employed for life in presentation.
The fact that you're here watching them all these years later shows they did what they set out to do and then some!
You're right. Great
I agree
Damn, doesn't it fall off a cliff from 27:57 when Carlton just started recycling its London logos...
Aww man, it completely lost its identity 😢

25:46 MY FAVORITE CENTRAL IDENT
I love this music. 11:11
Central logo at 2:50.
So beautiful.
1:56 my favourite. And the lyrics for this one is, "sun, sun, sun-sun-sun-sun"
ATV always heralded Crossroads for me. In other words, time to turn over. Central meant Spitting Image. Yorkshire meant Rising Damp. Thames was This Is Your Life, The Sweeney and Minder. ITV is now an abomination.
That ABC Logo Looks Like Trinity From Rise & Shadow Of The Tomb Raider.
Wow!! lots of Central idents!

Also do you remember where you got the part from 12:13 to 12:48? I've wanted a clean copy of that music forever and I'd rather not have to download the whole 30 minutes to load into Audacity and cut all except that little bit out.
Awesome, looks like clipconverter.cc lets you set start and end times for the download. Thanks anyway.

One kids show you forgot, Rosie and Jim. I don't think that FSF was done by Central. DO YOU AGREE.🖕
This is totally wicked!!!!!
Looks to me like the could never make their mind what they wanted nor
content with any one logo, absolutely no need for all these
variations when all but three of them were rubbish!
Perhaps the probelm was there are just too many animations that can be
done with a 3D Cake pattern and six colours! they certainly took that
to the extreme and imo lost their way.
The logo at 5:16 had the best sound design and graphic and they should have quit then.
12:14 onwards up to 13:39 is my favourite. Where can I find these?

21:42 My Favorite One Is Central Logo AKA Central Video Logo. X
Central
To be honest, as I remember it when these were introduced in 1985 there were complaints about that one piece of music that they played to death. Saying that considering how basic computer technology was back then and they could produce that, why the hell can't ITV do the same 30+ years later? That awful logo, the laziness of it all. And let's not start about the fitness class and the one on the end who can't keep up and can't remember the steps on BBC One. British TV needs to look across to America and see the boldness of the NBC, CBS, ABC logos and get something that works than this BBC 'lets keep everyone happy' instead of just bringing back the b***dy globe.
it's the minimalistic culture i think
but is just an opinion
In my opinion I think British TV has it right because they put more of them in
