      @@adamchristensen2648 To be fair, I wouldn't consider Tolkien a good writer, certainly least of all when it comes to structure. The flow is his books is so whack that several events he writes about don't actually take place at the time he places them in the story. It's not that this improves the story, because in fact it doesn't. No it's because he believed it to be more accurate. (But to be fair, a large part of his motivation to write these books wasn't actually to entertain audiences, so I'll give him that, at least.) And let's not forget he wrote an entire chapter in the middle of an ongoing epic, tens of pages long, describing nothing but geographical features like the speed of a flowing river, which is a bad idea to put in a book. Never mind the redundancy of the lion's share of what's said during the meeting of the White Council. Just because he writes beautifully stylistically (which I think he does do), that fact alone doesn't make him a good writer.
      For whatever it's worth to you, I agree the way Tauriel was employed in the movie is not good, for more or less the same reason. Also, the writers included Tauriel to make up for a lack of female characters in the story, but then bounce her around as the default for the romantic arcs (which the story doesn't actually need to succeed) BECAUSE she's a female character. I don't think Tauriel herself is a horrible inclusion. In fact I think she's just ok (we don't learn a whole lot about the point of her character after all), but the real chance at development and/or exposition a character like her offers I think is criminally underutilized.

    Fun Fact: in the Pokémon tv show, the original plan was that when Pokémon were young they could only say their name or make random sounds, but when they got older, they would gain the ability to speak like a human does, and that’s why Meowth could already talk because he was an adult meowth, but after a couple of episodes, the creators were like “that’s stupid” and changed it so that just all Pokémon only spoke their names minus legendary’s and mythical’s, and they wrote some story how Meowth could talk because he fell in love with some snobby rich female Meowth that only respected humans and he practiced talking and walking so he could win over the girl Meowth, but after he succeeded at talking like a human, she turned him down for a Persian and that’s why he’s evil now.

It is also depicted as driving a horse carriage or with a pack of dogs. The dullahain were similar to Irving's headless horseman by the way they died, through a war related death. Thus the Headless Horseman is firmly a Irish creature in origin.

    There were actually five things wrong with the Animorphs question:
    Tobias wasn't turned into a red-tailed hawk, he turned himself into a red-tailed hawk
    It wasn't Yeerk technology that turned him into a red-tailed hawk, it was Andalite morphing technology that allowed him to
    He was, for several books, stuck because he exceeded the time limit in morph
    Siobhan is right; he isn't stuck, because, while still a nothlit, the Ellimist gave him morphing powers back.
    There was no Yeerk technology called the Morph Gun, this vaguely alludes to the Anti-Morphing Ray, which could have turned Tobias into a red-tailed hawk but, because he was a nothlit with morphing powers, did nothing, and made the Yeerks think it was broken.

    Um actually to the correction at 9:20: Colourless and generic mana were distinct concepts long before 2016 (maybe since the inception of the game but there were some major rules overhauls in the early years so maybe not). The introdution of some things spsificly costing colourless mana was new in 2016 but before then non-mana spsifc costs were still technicly called generic rather than colourless- it just didn't matter.

      So... having not played magic for ages.. (well last year but it was a special kit with a deck for each colour .. but anyway...) what's the difference between colourless and generic?

    • @Othelbark
      @Othelbark Před 2 lety +1

      @@stone5against1 Generic mana is only found in mana costs, it's a mana cost that can be paid with any type of mana but you can never have "generic mana". Colourless mana is a type of mana, any mana you generate that doesn't have a colour is (you guessed it): colourless! There is a fun technically in the rules where effects that generate "any colour" of mana are different from effects that generate "any type" because only the latter can generate colorless mana. The difference was a pretty meaningless one for a long time until mana costs that could *only* be paid with colorless where introduced, but the distinction did technically exist before then.

      Tobias’s “biological father,” for certain definitions of those terms, is Ax’s brother Elfangor, who permanently morphed to human and took the name “Alan Fangor.” However, that timeline was mostly erased, as was his mother’s memory, so it’s unlikely that Tobias's last name is Fangor. His mom’s current-timeline husband/Tobias’s legal father is not stated, and we have neither Loren's married nor her maiden name.

      That was my question. Because the headless horseman is 100% based on a dullahan which would be Ireland but the headless horseman specifically in his legend is given a backstory of being a soldier who died in the revolution I believe meaning it would be correct to say he was from New York if your referring specifically to the American legend and not the creature in general.
