Hey! I'm Alanna - a twenty-something documenting my life as a Canadian living in England.
I share the ups and downs of an expat living abroad and what it's really like living in the UK. It's not always easy, but there's been so many wonderful experiences, too. I post a CZcams video every Tuesday & Friday plus an additional video every Saturday on my Patreon account. I also livestream every Wednesday and Sunday at 5:30pm GMT on Twitch.

When I was a kid about 70 years ago the 'white sticks' actually had a red tip and were actually called 'candy cigarettes'. It was only after the anti-smoking campaign started that they stopped calling them this. We also were able to buy 'candy tobacco'. Long strings of coconut covered in cocoa powder and sugar.

In the UK they were called sweet cigarettes and came in a pack that looked like a pack of 10 cigarettes, even had a 'cigarette card' inside. There was also chewing gum ones wrapped in a 'cigarette' paper. The good old days when PC was a copper and Health & Safety didn't exist. Just common sense.

Thanks for another entertaining video. The blue raspberry rip roll reminds me of a candy I had when I was a kid called Fruit by the Foot. But if I remember correctly, I think it came in a plastic tape dispenser so it wouldn’t accidentally unroll into a big mess. I also ate Fruit Roll Ups as well. They unrolled into a sheet with perforated shapes like stars on it, that you would pull out from the sheet and eat, then you would be left with a stencil that you could use to draw shapes with, or just eat it. I always just ate it and I didn’t know anyone who actually used it as a stencil even though it was advertised on tv for that use.

We used to get a shandy drink called Shandy Bass as kids. I was surprised on my last visit that Shandy was still for sale at the local Chip Shop. I had to get one of course. I also tried the bitter shandy version but didn't enjoy that one at all.

Bass Shandy? That's rolling back the years Thess days in the Pub I drink either Lager Shandy or Bitter Shandy Both do look like real Pints with a head on them. My other Tipple is Mild never heard of that being a shandy .When I visited Ireland The bar staff had never heard of "Mild" But were Ok with Shandy 😕
Barrs most famous big selling Soft drinks both do not have the Barrs Tradename and Alanna ? I think you'll enjoy both
They are Tizer en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tizer (ex North west England recipe 1924 )
And the legendary Iron-Bru ex 1901 (Motto Made in Scotland from Girders) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irn-Bru

I'm quite new to your channel Alanna and I love it. Gotta say, if someone said 'what are you watching' I'd be a bit sheepish about admitting that I'm watching someone eating cheap, crappy sweets to see how appalled she can be...yet, here I am.
It must be down to the presenter 😁

Great video, but the blue raz roll...closer to a fruit by the foot and not a fruit roll up. Roll ups were like a rolled up paper looking thing made of fruit puree with shapes kinda cut into it. God...why do I remember this, lol.

Of all your video`s this made me laugh the hardest. I love those Nik naks but those Camel balls.... I`ve never seen them and I`m shocked they exist, I`m curious to try them now. When I was in my teens I would buy a can of Shandy Bass, this used real Bass beer and I loved it.

    Hey Alanna,
I drank a lot of shandyade as a kid a few decades ago. I think it was the fact it made me feel grown up and felt like drinking beer! lol
Hopefully you got to taste a wham bar? They were big in my secondary school in the 80's! Yes old fart I am!! 😁
The candy sticks I ate as a kid were rolled up chocolate.

Drinking shandy eating nik naks, and enjoying it you’ve been here too long. you used to be able to get canned shandy (shandy bass) with a the smallest alcohol content possible but as kids you felt so cool!!

PS: I immediately went and checked your knick knack video, and to my relief saw I had previously liked it, so I know I've been around awhile lol. And you tried the Rib and Saucy back in 2018, right after the fish ones XD

I think Nik Naks are a bit like Marmite, even within their own flavours. You either love them or hate them. I love those Rib 'n' Saucy ones. I have eaten far too many over the years. Scampi and Lemon on the other hand, is like they just put a used nappy in the bag and said, 'That'll do'. ;)

  • @orlandotrustfullandhiscosm4110

wow ive never come across sticky bbq rib flavoured crisps. I'll have to keep an eye out for them!
