I don't want to be disrespectful to Freddie Mercury, but ... Adam sang this as good as any human being could sing it. And many times when he's performing with Queen, it becomes apparent very fast that he is ... well ... better than Freddie. Nobody wants to say that but it seems to be more and more true the more I see of both men's performances
I think you should fix your hearing. Adam is a great singer, but his voice doesn't even come slightly close to the power Freddie's had. And that's just the voice, if we compare both of them as artists... well, the gap widens even more.
The two people most entitled to compare the two seem to agree with you. Both Sir Brian and Roger have said that Lambert can sing parts every night that Mercury had to schedule very carefully. Lambert's voice seems to be higher-pitched, so it is easier for him to reach the stratosphere. However, no one will match Mercury's mastery of the audience for a very long time.

Yeah Freddie wasn't just a voice but a legendary icon and frontman with that special charisma, and those magical things he did that make your hair stand up, he was full of soul, personality and charisma, not necessarily technical singing perfection, and that magic beetween him and the crowd, Freddie the man is a legend for sure.

Can't compared them as artists at all, but yeah Freddie was a dramatic spinto tenor, a tenor type that is not lower but darker, louder, heavier, more metallic, dramatic and more powerful.
