“After almost four years, we are finally seeing the completion of this vital transmission line project,” said President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in expressing his delight during the inauguration of the Mariveles-Hermosa-San Jose (MHSJ) 500 kilovolt (kV) Transmission Line - a landmark event marking the significant milestone in the nation’s energy infrastructure development.
The MHSJ Transmission Line spans over 275.6 circuit kilometers of overhead lines, supported by nearly 400 towers and two (2) new substations, boasting a transmission capacity of 8,000 megawatts (MW). This infrastructure will serve as a crucial conduit for both the existing 5,080 MW and an additional 2,554 MW of committed power generation projects in Bataan and Zambales.
"This new transmission line will serve as a vital corridor… strengthen power transmission services not only in the region but all the way to Metro Manila," President Marcos Jr. emphasized. He also highlighted its integration with other significant projects in Bataan, such as the Battery Energy Storage System in Limay and the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge.
“This transmission project attests to the transformative power of collaboration between the public and private sectors to be able to attain a stable, reliable and resilient power supply for the country,” he remarked, highlighting how it demonstrates the Administration’s commitment to transitioning to renewable energy, aiming to mitigate the impacts of geopolitical uncertainties and climate change.
The President lauded the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) and various government agencies for their concerted efforts in overcoming the challenges encountered during the project's execution. Additionally, he directed the Department of Energy (DOE) and NGCP to ensure the timely completion of nearly 70 other transmission projects, including the Batangas-Mindoro Interconnection Project and the Northern Luzon 230-kV Loop, as outlined in the Transmission Development Plan.
“This way, we can meet our increasing energy demand, encourage technological advancements and produce more employment opportunities for our people,” he urged them, expressing optimism to the positive outcomes these initiatives will bring to the nation.
Furthermore, the Chief Executive envisioned Bataan becoming a “literal and figurative powerhouse,” positioning it as a future center of economic and development activity. He called on the public to embrace their shared responsibility in ensuring a dependable and adequate energy supply, as well as to become stewards of the environment through conservation and smart energy consumption.
“With our synergized efforts pushing our national development forward, we can build greener and more sustainable cities and achieve total electrification for the entire country,” he added.
Concluding his message, President Marcos Jr. called on everyone’s support towards the realization of a ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ where all communities are powered by affordable and accessible electricity, industries thrive and opportunities abound for all Filipinos.
