as someone who worked as a lift operator for years but didn't personally have to deal with an evac, you're the absolute best case scenario typa person for an evac. calm, positive and patient - hell yeah :)

What I think is even more impressive is how this is basically the role model for perfect behaviour of someone in a crisis - cool, calm and collected, responsive to the instructions of the responders, keeping the tension low, not creating any unnecessary additional distractions, and asking clarifying questions where necessary. Like there’s nothing that she could have done more correctly in that situation to make rescue as easy as possible. Fantastic stuff

No telling when anyone would show up to rescue you or fix the lift. Boredom drives people to do some crazy things but when I was a kid I used to climb trees using paracord. It holds 500lbs or more.

Usually, people get together and hold something udnerneath for you to jump into that softens the blow. There are often these cushions around some trees or metal poles. 2.5 hours isn't a long time but sitting in place in freezing temperatures would suck more than an aching leg imo
I don't ski, but I wonder if someone could just pack a bit of rope into their pack. Tie it to the chair then slide down. Obviously would need to practice it a bit first and know how to tie knots but sure beats waiting for 3+ hours lol

For the most part when people do sports in an area with lifts, they don't carry any sort of equipment because the areas are quite safe. It would be smart also on my end to carry sth like a snow showel. Better safe than sorry

I used to go skiing with a ski patrol guy. I got a free lift ticket, and in exchange I helped them practice lift evacuations. They ran me up the mountain, shut off the power to the lift, and brought me down with a rope.
My dad is a ski patroller and he has a buddy who always carries a rock climbing rope in his gear vest (what he carries his patrolling stuff in) so that should the need come, he can self evacuate. To either of our knowledge, he has never used it.
That’s pretty funny he carries that around. He’s probably never gonna use it. Lol cord thin enough to carry with you would be really sketchy to repel on because it would fly through the belay device. I guess they make 8 mm rope, but that would be pretty heavy.

That's without getting into any of the ultra small, ultra light (reputable lol) emergency rap belt-pouch kits. I actually don't see a reason not to have this next time I ski.

i watched the movie “frozen” where 3 friends get stuck on a ski lift that closes down for the season.. lets just say i would not have such a positive attitude lol good for her im glad she was able to get down soon
