  • @mattmiller786
    @mattmiller786 Před 2 lety +6

    Lets break this down.
Multiple players in pro-bowls, all pro, etc were specialists and got these accolades due to their mastery in a specialty. Hester wasn’t a great WR but he was complimentary at times and important in rotations. What made him also good is he was a complimentary player in gadget plays, decoys, sometimes defense, and multiple positions giving versatility in an era when it wasn’t prized but was important, a few times (namely under Cutler) he approached 1000 yards in a year receiving .. with his versatility (where he could be a serviceable backup and emergency coverage/rotation player with BY FAR the best return numbers ever…. ) alone he is merely a useful complimentary piece that’s true. But then throw in his out of this world special teams play… He is a Semi/Finalist already in year 1. Obviously the best minds in the game disagree with many of you, former NFL players disagree with many of you, and factually some arguing he was just a sub-par receiver… that point is basic and irrelevant to what can get someone like him into the HOF. 3x First Team All Pro, 1x Second Team all pro, 4x Pro Bowl, 3x Special Teams player of the year, 2000s all decade team, 2010 all decade team, 2010s all decade team, 100th Anniversary All Time Team, and 40 touchdowns for special teams play. He also was a large reason his team scored enough points to make it to a superbowl in some very important games… as a special teamer… where he scored the fastest touchdown ever (and only one like it) in NFL history for the SB. This guy is the GOAT at what he did. Period. The rules of the game changed because of him.
That IS HOF. There are people in the HOF now that don’t have his accolades that were incredible.

Hester is EASILY a hall of famer. There no question. You can’t have a hall of fame without including members of all 3 phases of the game. Offense, defense, AND special teams. As the greatest returner of punts and kicks of all time, you cannot keep, in good faith, the greatest player at their position out of the hall of fame. You simply cannot do it. This man dominated the league for years and changed the way that special teams is played.
Ultimately, the great determinator of whether someone is a hall of famer, is ultimately by answering one simple question: “can you write the story of the league without this player?” And it would be a travesty to write the story of the NFL, without Devin Hester.

Devin Hester breaking Deion's record in Atlanta with Deion in attendance is the equivalent of Derek Jeter walking into Yankee Stadium with 2,998 hits, hitting a home run for his 3,000th hit, and ending the day with 3,003 because he went 5-for-5. It's not just about Jeter being the only Yankee in the 3,000 hit club. It's about how we know he's going to do something special, and then exceeding our expectations with how he does it. That, my friends, is Devin Hester. You knew every time he touched that ball, there was a very good chance he was taking it to the house, even when you thought he couldn't possibly do it. Any more than two ballots and it's a travesty...

Hester Absolutely, because really he was an absolute stand out at his position and everyone playing with and against him all knew it!!
Edelman is to the Patriots what
Phil Simms is to the Giants and Mattingly was to The Yankees
A fan favorite that belongs in Your ring of honor, however there are others in the game doing the same, and his name, stats, and position stands out more having played with Brady. And if the defense wasn't doubling Gronk most times freeing up space? He's a slot receiver more than a wide receiver just sayin
Feel like the level of excellence to be put into the HOF has somehow been lowered, i believe it was Prime that has mentioned that as well

Hester and Rivers should be Hall of Famers in my opinion. Marhsawn and Edelman are great, but they are not Hall of Famers, they're fringe guys who are great but not great enough, or at least they will have to wait for a little while before they do get in. Hester was the greatest ever at his position, by A LOT. Rivers is and has been a great quarterback for a long time, and the only thing(s) that stood in the way of him getting a Super Bowl in his prime with LT was the fact that he had to meet either Brady or Peyton Manning every year in the playoffs, otherwise he might have a ring.

Hester should be inducted. Lynch is an interesting case. I think he would be a lock if he got the ball to win the second Super Bowl. Unfortunately, he didn't. So as far as RBs go, only Adrian Peterson is deserving at this point. Apparently Jamal Lewis isn't worthy of being in the HOF and he is the only eligible 2,000 rusher who hasn't been inducted, he has over 10,000 career yards, and won a Super Bowl. Unless Jamal Lewis is inducted, you can't make a case for anyone other than Adrian Peterson at the RB position.

He’s the all time best at his position, coupled with being a serviceable wideout. Imagine jerry rice also being a playmaking Nickel back. That’s what you’re looking at with Hester and they still won’t let him in. All the kickoff rules changed partly as a result of that dude.

Yes, Devin Hester is an obvious HoFer in my opinion. He's the greatest returner of all time, and the greatest of all time at anything significant should be in.
I disagree about Eli. I think Rivers is a borderline case, but deserves to be in. Eli was pretty good for a long time, but was never great. Rivers was (at least occasionally) great. Rivers was also pretty bad sometimes, but I don't think that disqualifies him. I respect the argument that it should, but I think greatness with some bad is much better than lots of pretty good with some bad and 2x Super Bowls.

Its like if a closer should be in the mlb hall of fame. They're not a starter, their stats are not as pretty, and if you look at your average starters and your best closers stats, the starters look better, but yet I think closers should be in the hall of fame if they did what they did the best. I know people will say that Hall, Cribbs, and whoever is very good, but Hester is just the best. Maybe Hall is the best with the ball, but Hester just returned kicks better than anybody ever.

    1. Hester (the greatest ever in a position)
    2. Lynch ( the backbone of a back to back superbowl team that produced elite stats)
    3. Edelman (one of the all time great playoff players)
    4. Rivers (hall of very good but very inconsistent & no playoff success)
