Hester is the greatest returner of all time
yeah, this is why he to me he is a lock. Just like Ray Guy as a punter being inducted.
Absolutely 100% hall of famer, better returner than sanders, and Dante hall
Between him and Mel Gray
Cribbs was pretty good too
Don't forget dante hall. Its a debate im not saying hall was better but you can't forget the most electric man with the ball
Devin Hester was the most feared return man of all time! The Colts kicked to him in the Super Bowl and they stopped...lol
I saw him play twice his rookie season and saw him run it back twice. It was so exciting to watch him. There was so much hype for a kick or punt.
I feel like the NFL Offices needed Hester to receive that kick. They said. Kick it to the other guy or out of bound. You better not.
edelman is pretty good. rivers was consistently good for a long time. HESTER!!! he is the greatest at what he did.
Edelman is not a hofer might as well say wes welker is a hofer, brady make people look gangster bro, what has Edelman done without brady??the guy is slot receiver a nobody
@@mannyreyes1340 i feel the same way. alot of the media likes edelman because he does interviews that is the real reason why his name keeps getting brought up in hall of fame discussions.
Rivers should be in there. Look at his numbers over suuuch a long time. Hester deserves it more, OUT THIS GROUP, bc he is the best ever. I hope they both get in but if Hester doesn't than wtf is the hall even for
@@BD-zg7is river shouldn't be in there he throws the ball away to much 408 TDs to 205 ints is not good
Hester is the only hofer of those guys.
Devin Hester, a returner, was legit the Bears main scoring option.
He was our best offense
While I want to agree, you are forgeting the BEARS D.
That's INSANE !!!!
Hester is 100% a Hall of Famer. That shouldn't even be a controversy.
True💯 I’m a Saints and Hester fan ever since his Miami days, he really does deserve it
He better make it this year!!! 😤
@@humanitarian-aquarian9083this is some bs
Hester returning the opening kickoff in the Super Bowl is one of the most baller moments in NFL history.
Never again !!! LEGENDARY !!! I was a HUGE fan of Hester and when they kicked it even I was like there's no way he's re... DUDE HES RETURNING IT !!! OH MY GOD HES DOING IT !!
First! And yes he is! He is the greatest kick returner/ Punt Returner ever!
Josh Cribbs
Cordarelle Patterson
Dante Hall
Darren sproles
Watching Dante Hall and my guy from the U every weekend making the special teams something we couldn’t wait for was amazing! As receivers of course not but absolutely special teams legends.
Hester returning kick in the super bowl has to be one of the greatest signature plays by a player in history
Lol especially when the whole word was talking about was he going to run it back or not, it was talks if the colts should kick it to him or not
He is the only one to take the opening kick for a TD.
Hester is def a HOF. Greatest return man ever. His last game he had a return for 78 yards in the playoffs with the Seahawks at the end of 2016. This guy was a legend.
Literally the greatest punt and kick returner to ever play the game
This dude nearly has 15,000 career return yards.
I don't see how it's a question; of course he is a Hall of Famer.
It's about 11,000 combined between punt and kick returns. A hair over 3000 recieving.
But 11,000 freaking return yards is almost unfathomable.
Yes, absolutely. He was the best all-time at his position. I'd say the same thing for the best punter of all time. If there's literally no one who's ever played football that can do your job better than you, then, you're one of the best to ever play. Super simple.
Very well said!
It’s that simple. Idk why they even have this conversation
100%. The fact that Steve Tasker isn’t in the HOF is insane. Nobody in NFL history is even close to Tasker and Matthew Slater. If you’re the best you’re the best.
@@axe2grind772 I googled Steve Tasker but there was no mention of what he was good at. I'm not against saying he's an HOF'er but he has to have SOMETHING going for him. So educate me. Why does he belong?
@Anonymous Haha I actually think there should be long snapper or two. So who's your pick and why?
Deion Sanders is jumping up and down hollering for Hester...
Oh he gonna run this one back 😂
In the entire 101 years of the NFL, is there anyone you would have rather had returning your kicks and punts? Although it's considered a small and insignificant position, Hester made the position relevant. He was a once-in-a-hundred-years player.
Devin Hester transcends the game. Could play in any era. Imagine Hester in returning punts & kicks in 1940s-1980s. His numbers would be insane.
Out of all the names he is the only one who is the very best at what he did. Hester is without a doubt a HOF player.
Right Hall of Fame is for the best who ever did it. None finer than Hester in the return game
@@OriginalDemGunz
If I said Deion Sanders and maybe you would say that Deion wasn't a full time kick returner. Then I would say it is because he had other skills and therein lies the problem.
@@OH_MY_DOGGG
Hester played wideout also. Prime was good but nobody seeing the Windy City flyer
Hester should be in there. He’s the best returner in history. That should automatically get him in.
The say they changed the kickoff rules because of player safety. They changed them because of Devin Hester!!! GOAT!!!
Devin Hester revolutionized his position. After him everybody started drafting "return specialists"
When you're the best ever at what you do then you're a hall of famer
Lets break this down.
Multiple players in pro-bowls, all pro, etc were specialists and got these accolades due to their mastery in a specialty. Hester wasn’t a great WR but he was complimentary at times and important in rotations. What made him also good is he was a complimentary player in gadget plays, decoys, sometimes defense, and multiple positions giving versatility in an era when it wasn’t prized but was important, a few times (namely under Cutler) he approached 1000 yards in a year receiving .. with his versatility (where he could be a serviceable backup and emergency coverage/rotation player with BY FAR the best return numbers ever…. ) alone he is merely a useful complimentary piece that’s true. But then throw in his out of this world special teams play… He is a Semi/Finalist already in year 1. Obviously the best minds in the game disagree with many of you, former NFL players disagree with many of you, and factually some arguing he was just a sub-par receiver… that point is basic and irrelevant to what can get someone like him into the HOF. 3x First Team All Pro, 1x Second Team all pro, 4x Pro Bowl, 3x Special Teams player of the year, 2000s all decade team, 2010 all decade team, 2010s all decade team, 100th Anniversary All Time Team, and 40 touchdowns for special teams play. He also was a large reason his team scored enough points to make it to a superbowl in some very important games… as a special teamer… where he scored the fastest touchdown ever (and only one like it) in NFL history for the SB. This guy is the GOAT at what he did. Period. The rules of the game changed because of him.
That IS HOF. There are people in the HOF now that don’t have his accolades that were incredible.
Easliy Hester and marshawn
Yeah i agree
No not Lynch.
Hall of very good and that is it for him. No where close to HOF level.
Being the greatest at your position its Hester easily
1st ballot NO QUESTIONS Greatest to ever do it at his position
The correct answer is Steve Tasker.
EDIT: I posted this comment before watching the full video. I laughed.
Damn, if I had a nickel for every time I did that...lol
GTFO
@Rayne Villanueva has anyone ever called him the goat at his position? No then your just wrong. Being really good or even great does not compare to you being the goat at your job.
@@Dabeast1911Que The answer is Yes
With that said it's too small a part of a game, I mean Manny Mota is the best pinch hitter of all time but he's not making the Hall of Fame either
Rich literally in a minute span says it's not the post season HOF about Edelman, but Eli should be no question? Huh?🤔
Eli is top 10 all time in passing yards, passing touchdowns and completions. Then you add in the two Super Bowl runs. Eli Manning is a first ballot hall of fame, no questions asked
@Nathaniel Baxter what argument can be made against him?
@@patrickbooth5091 Dude, I am a Giants fan. Eli was horrible to watch sometimes. Bad decisions and awful interceptions, never a top qb in the league but when it comes down to it; he played his heart out and won my team 2 super bowls so I love him.
@@patrickbooth5091 without the Super Bowls, he was an average QB at best
@@stevenbresselsmith6906 lol sure just omit specific parts of his career so your argument holds a little weight
Everyone mentioned deserves to be in the HOF. It's just a question of how long will it take.
Heater literally has all the nfl records for a punt returner he's the greatest returner in nfl history imo
IMHO, if Hester is good enough to be named to the NFL 100 All-Time Team, then he's good enough for the Hall of Fame.
If his position in the Hall of Fame is PR, VOTE HIM IN.
Kicker and punter are in Hester will get in.
Rivers going to the hall as the king of the crippling 4th qtr interception
I think Brett Favre already there as the king of crippling 4th quarter interceptions
@@xXAzotakaXx To his credit Favre is actually a great player and a cinch Hall of Famer
@@DanielSong39 I agree. But I also think he's the king of 4th quarter INTs.
@@xXAzotakaXx who cares ? not me . Because his game was "damn the torpedoes" from day one till his last play. all those 4th quarters interceptions are the side effect of all those incredible made pass that couldn't even exist in anybody else's mind. You couldn't have one without the other, and the net result was an undeniable and vastly positive impact.
I thought that was romo
People say he is not in the HOF because he's not a good wr. But he wasn't a wr as much as he was a returner, and he was the best returner.
First ballot for sure changed the return game forever dudes a freak
He didn’t change the game, because he was unique, now that he’s retired there’s nobody like him
They had to change the rules because of Devin Hester
Seriously? This question is blasphemy. OF COURSE he is!
We will find out next year. I believe that is Devin Hester's first year of eligibility. I'm a die-hard Bears fan and washed for many many years including the Super Bowl Devin Hester run returns back I believe when he does go to the hall it will be as a returner and he will be the first no one has changed the game the way he did and it's hard to say if someone down the road ever will
He was more than just a player, he was an artist when it came to kickoff returns
Best at his position ever, 100% put him in.
The difference between Hester and Slater is that Hester is the all time best, while Slater is currently the best in the game playing. Slater is not Hester. Hester is a clear Hall Of Famer. Everyone that was the best at something has gotten in to the HOF, so this should be nothing different for Hester. I'm stunned this is even a question. You can't name a better special teams returned all time!
Hester is EASILY a hall of famer. There no question. You can’t have a hall of fame without including members of all 3 phases of the game. Offense, defense, AND special teams. As the greatest returner of punts and kicks of all time, you cannot keep, in good faith, the greatest player at their position out of the hall of fame. You simply cannot do it. This man dominated the league for years and changed the way that special teams is played.
Ultimately, the great determinator of whether someone is a hall of famer, is ultimately by answering one simple question: “can you write the story of the league without this player?” And it would be a travesty to write the story of the NFL, without Devin Hester.
Devin Hester has the return records which will NEVER be broken and Lynch has two of the greatest runs in NFL history.
Two runs don’t get you in though
Yo he really just swayed me to go with Hester it was a toss up for him and Marshawn for me but then I thought back to watching his highlights and thinking about how he literally was paid to be a return man cuz he was a terrible wr and yet he was the best returner arguably ever.
They literally changed the rule book in order to prevent kicking to Hester
Absolutely Yes!
Absolutely
As a colts fan seeing Hester in the back field in the super bowl was not a great feeling. 😂
Yup! He changed the game teams had to planned for him and he was a kick returner.
Definitely deserves to be in HOF
Hester is a lock
Yes
And now it’s no longer a question. Congrats Devin Hester!!
1-Phillip Rivers(by a hair's width) 2-Hester 3-Beast Mode 4-Edleman
Can’t tell the story of the game without him.
Devin Hester is a Hall of Fame caliber football player. PERIOD. No discussion.
when you change how the game is played you should
be in the HOF
Yes absolutely, Devin Hester merits hall of fame inclusion to add to the Chicago Bears record number. I will double down and say Charles "Peanut" Tillman should be in the Hall of Fame for the peanut punch alone.

@@EJD339 the only argument I think you can have with Calvin is if he a 1st ballot Hof or not.
Why is edelman in the convo?
yes absolutely
Rich: Not Edelman, It's not the postseason HOF
Also Rich: Eli has 2 rings so he's HOFamer
Eli is top ten all time in passing yards, passing touchdowns and completions. Then you add in his two super bowl runs. Eli is easily a first ballot hall of famer and it’s not even close.
so perfectly said mwebb
Devin Hester career is wayyyyyyy moreeee exciting to watch then many other already HOF members.
Devin Hester breaking Deion's record in Atlanta with Deion in attendance is the equivalent of Derek Jeter walking into Yankee Stadium with 2,998 hits, hitting a home run for his 3,000th hit, and ending the day with 3,003 because he went 5-for-5. It's not just about Jeter being the only Yankee in the 3,000 hit club. It's about how we know he's going to do something special, and then exceeding our expectations with how he does it. That, my friends, is Devin Hester. You knew every time he touched that ball, there was a very good chance he was taking it to the house, even when you thought he couldn't possibly do it. Any more than two ballots and it's a travesty...
Hester Absolutely, because really he was an absolute stand out at his position and everyone playing with and against him all knew it!!
Edelman is to the Patriots what
Phil Simms is to the Giants and Mattingly was to The Yankees
A fan favorite that belongs in Your ring of honor, however there are others in the game doing the same, and his name, stats, and position stands out more having played with Brady. And if the defense wasn't doubling Gronk most times freeing up space? He's a slot receiver more than a wide receiver just sayin
Feel like the level of excellence to be put into the HOF has somehow been lowered, i believe it was Prime that has mentioned that as well
Yes, greatest return man arguably of all time.
How could he not be
Two words
Hell yes
WITHOUT QUESTION
They changed rules because of him.... 100% game changer! Hall of Fame would be lucky to have him!
When you're the best all-time at your position, then yes, you belong in the HoF.
Greatest long snapper?
@@freddiesimmons1394 Most long snappers aren't only long snappers.
@@Windupchronic not the point of the question
@@Windupchronic Hester was a WR and not a very good one either.
But hester's official position is reciever
Hester and Rivers should be Hall of Famers in my opinion. Marhsawn and Edelman are great, but they are not Hall of Famers, they're fringe guys who are great but not great enough, or at least they will have to wait for a little while before they do get in. Hester was the greatest ever at his position, by A LOT. Rivers is and has been a great quarterback for a long time, and the only thing(s) that stood in the way of him getting a Super Bowl in his prime with LT was the fact that he had to meet either Brady or Peyton Manning every year in the playoffs, otherwise he might have a ring.
Returning the Superbowl kick-off put the hall of fame question to rest!!!
Yes.
I feel like if you are renowned as the greatest at a specific position regardless of that position being kick/punt returner you deserve to be in the hall.
Hester should be inducted. Lynch is an interesting case. I think he would be a lock if he got the ball to win the second Super Bowl. Unfortunately, he didn't. So as far as RBs go, only Adrian Peterson is deserving at this point. Apparently Jamal Lewis isn't worthy of being in the HOF and he is the only eligible 2,000 rusher who hasn't been inducted, he has over 10,000 career yards, and won a Super Bowl. Unless Jamal Lewis is inducted, you can't make a case for anyone other than Adrian Peterson at the RB position.
YES !
They need to do a 3 part voting. Media, players former and current, then fans. 2/3 vote and they're in.
Changed the game. Yes.
Hester is a no-brainer. The Hall of Fame is for the "immortals," and he is indubitably one.
The fact that we even have to have this conversation and debate about a guy that changed the rules of the game speaks to why he belongs in the hof
Edelman and heater both!
We kill some players from getting HoF mention for not winning a super bowl, while all Edelman had done is do it in big games.
Hester is the best Returner ever and changes entire games / seasons when he played.
Hester>Lynch>Rivers>Edelman. No way Julian gets in. And I kinda don't think Rivers makes it in either.
Of those 4 probably either Hester or Lynch
He’s the all time best at his position, coupled with being a serviceable wideout. Imagine jerry rice also being a playmaking Nickel back. That’s what you’re looking at with Hester and they still won’t let him in. All the kickoff rules changed partly as a result of that dude.
Absolutely should be
Yes, Devin Hester is an obvious HoFer in my opinion. He's the greatest returner of all time, and the greatest of all time at anything significant should be in.
I disagree about Eli. I think Rivers is a borderline case, but deserves to be in. Eli was pretty good for a long time, but was never great. Rivers was (at least occasionally) great. Rivers was also pretty bad sometimes, but I don't think that disqualifies him. I respect the argument that it should, but I think greatness with some bad is much better than lots of pretty good with some bad and 2x Super Bowls.
Answered. Class of 2024. No. 374
He’s the greatest kick/punt returner of all time...there would actually be DOUBT about the hall of fame? Lol.
How about Brian Mitchell
Hester:
3 All-Pros
All decade team in 2000s and 2010s
#1 Non-Offensive TDs
#1 PR TDs
#5 KR TDs
How is this even a conversation; Hester is the greatest return man ever, bar none, not a debate. This was just disrespectful to Devin Hester to put those other guys in the same question.
@Anonymous Haha Not in the same class.
@Anonymous Haha YDS per KR: Hester 24.9 to 23.1
YDS per PR: Hester 11.7 to 10.8
First Team All Pro selections: Hester 3 to 1
More Touchdowns in 3 less years. Sorry "KiD", but you need to actually read some stuff before you prove yourself to be a fool. You clearly are a casual.
@Anonymous Haha You're a bum that uses your whiny voice to voice stupid opinions that mean nothing. Go chase the ice cream truck.
And while you're at it, get your IQ above a 35 and maybe you'll have a productive argument.
@Anonymous Haha Damn.. dumb, ignorant and blind; you are the full package buddy. I am sure you get lots of women with your grace and ineptitude.
Its like if a closer should be in the mlb hall of fame. They're not a starter, their stats are not as pretty, and if you look at your average starters and your best closers stats, the starters look better, but yet I think closers should be in the hall of fame if they did what they did the best. I know people will say that Hall, Cribbs, and whoever is very good, but Hester is just the best. Maybe Hall is the best with the ball, but Hester just returned kicks better than anybody ever.
My list is
1. Hester (the greatest ever in a position)
2. Lynch ( the backbone of a back to back superbowl team that produced elite stats)
3. Edelman (one of the all time great playoff players)
4. Rivers (hall of very good but very inconsistent & no playoff success)
I think Hester should be a lock, I think lynch gets in & Edelman will eventually buy I don't think rivers should
It's amazing how close the Chargers were in 2006 and had Marlon McCree just gone down with the game-sealing interception I think that Chargers teams wins it all and we never would have this Rivers conversation.
