Ah, wow!! I've watched this video multiple times already just to gawk at your gorgeous artwork. As someone who plans to apply for art schools such as CalArts in 4 years, I must ask: How do you draw characters so fluidly and with so much life? I'd love to draw characters half as well as you do.
That's far too kind of you! Oh my gosh no my characters are quite mediocre :'D I think the best way to practice is to master fluid figure drawing first and analyze your favorite artists; Mobblele's sketchbook has far more amazing characters than mine, you have to check it out!

Thank you! Aw man tips huh... I think it would be your portfolio! People forget about that portion because they think the sketchbook is so important, but the portfolio is at least half of your application so make sure you pull your best work there. The sketchbook isn't everything it's only icing!
It’s my dream to go here (I’m 14 btw) so I really hope that you get in because your so amazing at drawing! I hope I get as good as you when I apply✨
It was my dream when I was 14 too!! I got in today! :D I practiced and finished 4 sketchbooks from 14 to my senior year, and I got a lot better! So if you practice you'll definitely get in!

This sketchbook is incredible!! I was working on one, but I missed the mailing deadline. I saw a lot of different mediums used, but I don't understand. How do you deal with the marker bleed?

I actually used highlighter! I can generally use my highlighters on any paper and they won't bleed!

I use an erasable red pencil! They are quite common especially among animators ^o^ The video just blurs it a little haha but I love using it very much!

please, I'm not a special case haha, all of my senior friends who were applying to Calarts got in as well! It's much more common than you think :)
Love those characters!! Do you have any tips for drawing characters that have a nice sense of form (without looking stiff)? I find that when I try to make a real person look like a character from observation, it stiffens them up. I read that you have to put away the reference after a bit when you're designing characters...
Ty! I'm definitely not the best character designer to ask that question, but I think it comes down to practicing figure drawing and finding inspiration in masters and analyzing what they do that makes them so great :)

I read down the comments that you used the Line of Action website. I'm asking because I haven't found a life drawing class in where I live, and maybe if you practiced with the website (and have achieved some really fluid poses
Hi! For sketchbook, I never used live figure sessions. However, for the portfolio pieces, yes I went to live figure drawing sessions. I had to travel around an hour to get there each week but luckily I had a few friends who always made the transportation more fun :) However, for the sketchbook, I mainly used line of action and I would practice a looooot. I know that live sessions are very difficult to find for some, but I think for the sketchbook, live is quite unnecessary. I wish you the best of luck!!

I wish best of luck to you then, it's hard but super fun :D My best tip would be make sure you start early! I had a friend who almost didn't make the deadline and pulled a week of all nighters to finish. An unfinished sketchbook typically isn't a good sign...

I mixed red and yellow tempura which doesn't bleed and dries quickly :)
